Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Hands-On: Avowed feels like Obsidian’s take on Elder Scrolls and we can’t wait to play more

Nice.

I wish this hadn't gotten delayed all the way to Feb. Jan would have been great, right now it's releasing in the middle of the most packed week in game releases in a decade.

Coming fresh off of trying out Dragon Age: The Veilguard, I was so happy when I discovered just how evil I could be to people I met along the way right from the start of Avowed – something Veilguard just didn’t fulfill.

This is also great, one of my big RPG complaint about Veilguard was how sanitized all interactions are, you can not play a true 'renegade' character at all.

Looking at some of the video previews, apparently you can go buck wild in the character creator and make some real goofy ass protagonists.

Gonna be glorious.

Yeah, and also pick and choose skills from all different trees to create the build that you want. Also a companion with skills that you choose.

Force has a great preview. I really trust him. He is critical of games often.

Sounds like a smaller more focused Skyrim. Looks awesome!

Stopped watching after 5 minutes but this game looks really good. This is my 1st time checking it out and with the evil option this has skyrocketed to one of my most anticipated games!

Mark my fookin' words, this will be another one of "those" games where the gaming press® and usual green shills (like Clit) will hype to death only for the game to be mediocre in reality.
It just has "mid" written all over it.

...and before the usual green defence force comes at me, Stalker 2, while quite shite now will get there in 5-6 months (like the OG really) and Indiana Jones looks like a good, honest 7.5 - 8 game, but this one ? Nahhh, it's a generic mediocrity with a capital M since its 1st showing, there's absolutely not an original bone in it and looks like your run of the mill generic fantasy stuff.

I watched Matty’s preview, it’s really encouraging. However my biggest concern is the writing & characters which he didn’t really touch on much.

After The Outer Worlds, I have no faith in this team
I mean, the game was successful and a lot of people liked/loved it. Even if you and I didn't care for it, haha.

I really haven't kept this on my radar at all, and I was planning to keep it that way. When it releases, I'll check it out. If it's cool, awesome. If it's opposite of that, well then I'll just move on to something else. It's definitely looked like it has improved over time, but you should always expect that when something is in development. It's the final product that matters most. I just swear when I look at it I don't see anything grabbing my attention or looking extremely unique.

Finally someone walks around in 3rd person. The Colt Eastwood video really shows off the graphics and the animations for walking at least look good in 3rd person. I wonder why I feel like I never see the combat in that mode. Maybe cause it looks janky. :(

Was there any announcement that previews for Avowed would be released today??

It's strange with 3 months to go and after the recent previews of so many XBOX first party games.

I hope this means some announcement or new content from other studios at TGA or the typical January DD.

It might be great but why does it look like an online moba or something? I miss dark and miserable settings.

I don't like all these "early" previews for the sake of advertising, usually they strictly discuss what can be shown, what can't, what can be said and what can't. I don't like it, so after such "reviews" I treat the game with even more apprehension...

Hmm.. my opinion is about the same. Interested, particularly because it's the Pillars of Eternity universe, but at the same time very skeptical. Watching some of these previews solidifies my thoughts on how the game will be structured : linear but "open" segments. It doesn't necessarily look bad because of this, but I was hoping it would be more like Elder Scrolls. That said, I could easily enjoy something like that - depending on how well its realized. I'm still down to try this game.

I stopped listening to everything previews say. Time and time again they have proved useless either by the people hyped for the product or by the people that produce it and showcasing only the good stuff.

I am not sure Obsidian has it in them anymore for the quality of rpg's that they used to produced but maybe i will be happily surprised.

I watched Matty's and Fextralife's previews. Both were considerably more positive than earlier previews.

I am looking forward to it. It looks like it's shaping up to be a pretty decent RPG. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Matty P's video is linked in the OP. Here is Fextralife's, if you're interested:
