Avowed | First Previews are coming up

So.... i am afraid to ask.... but you i be aware of of any special pronouns with people involved on this game?

If you have to ask, then maybe it’s not a problem either way? 🙄

On topic, this still looks rough to me, but not everything has to be so damned perfect either. Outer Worlds was also rough but decent fun, for the most part. I expect something like that from this one.

I wanted this game to be next gen a Skyrim and it seems to deliver on all fronts with more dense word, better fighting etc.
Looks far superior to Skyrim imho. Hunt down one of the menu shots and the amount of abilities looks crazy. Like PoE. Writing should be better. Combat looks much better. Graphics look better.

I'd love a quality medieval-fantasy WRPG with genuine RPG elements. There have been some high-profile letdowns lately. Hopefully Obsidian can deliver. Outer Worlds was mediocre, but I'm feeling hopeful about Avowed now, after these previews. I particularly liked Matty's comments about exploration and alternate paths. I like the comparisons to Skyrim as well, since I was a big fan of that game. Good to see they're giving it additional time in the oven. Release date timing is a bit iffy (KCD2 and MH both releasing around the same time), but that's a business angle. From a gameplay perspective, this is looking good.

Watched that "90" minute video.

I'm really loving the vibrancy and atmosphere of the world.

Combat and UI look shocking. Can't really judge the writing from the video but the performances seemed solid, hopefully dialogue choices go a long way.

All the previews are sounding good.

Force has a great preview. I really trust him. He is critical of games often.

Sounds like a smaller more focused Skyrim. Looks awesome!

Just got done with this as my first video of the previews. Was away in the morning.

Outside of always referring to Skyrim, I wish there was a reviewer that would compare with Pillars of Eternity. As anyone found one?

Anyway, everything he says makes me hyped for the game. Avowed was my #1 most anticipated game of 2024 before the delay. The villages and glimpses of the city, boats at a distance over the sea, reminds me so much of PoE II.

Jammed pack smaller map is exactly what I want, think Fallout New Vegas, or Pillars of Eternity for that matter as it was limited in size due to 2D maps.

Depending on how many regions the game has, the map is larger than I thought it would be.

Combat looks greatly improved from the initial showings, as well.

Another win for the Xbox family of devices, which is now anything :messenger_sunglasses:

Looking forward to seeing PC Gamer's new bad takes on Avowed.

"No genital size scaling makes for an incomplete experience".
"Five reasons why you should avoid Avowed".
"Poor Man's Sky...rim".
"Not wowed by Avowed".

Looks great. I love these types of games and don't come around often enough.

Lot of haters here, who must be Playstation fans. If it was on PS5 you all would be singing praises and say how much you are anticipating it.

That's a stretch brother
Also : absolutely not, you can have this game, not spending a dime on this even when it'll eventually come to the PS.

Also Pt2 : Pretty funny you're saying that since there's also a topic in this forum about Death stranding on the Xbox - you know, that "walking sim lol" game which - of course - people are now doing the usual mental gymnastics and 180'ing hard since it's on their plastic box of choice.

Listen, in this life, you gotta have some perspective and self awareness at the very least, just saying 😉

Cheers

I haven't had a lot of hype for this game, but I'm not necessarily pessimistic about it either. I'm willing to take the positive previews at face value, I just worry that the game doesn't have much to distinguish its identity or personality.

But it's GamePass so I will definitely be playing and Obsidian has been more hit than miss so maybe it will get its hooks in me.

This guy just uploaded a few hours 90 minutes of raw gameplay

The writing was awesome on PoE 1 i hope they continue that with Avowed. Also the game runs on newest Unreal 5 version. I hope they can bring up the graphics fidelity but i have to watch more footage to evaluate this.
But thinking about Pillars of Eternity in First Person? Dream come true.

I will very likely play this even though I didn’t really care for the outer worlds. Putting Obsidian on Fallout now that MS owns bethesda and Obsidian seems like the easiest layup ever, so I hope that’s what they do next. And bring back Avellone, will ya?

If that's the starter city that was blocked off from the preview, called Paradis,

mc7IJiG.jpeg

Depending on how crafted that city is, if you can go into every house, steal, etc, could be freaking amazing. I think they're keeping this one under wraps for a major surprise. PoE II cities were amazing even in 2D. I really can't wait to see what they cooked for it.

The fact that they need to target 30fps for this game is laughable.
The fact that your live seems to be so empty that you need to leave your stink in every Xbox thread is so laughable.
Why did they let you come back Psykodad Psykodad . Doesn't seem like you changed much.

Game seems to be coming together great. The previews look good and can't wait for February.

Looks great. Really wish they had released this now, for the holidays, and held Stalker 2 until Feb. Stalker 2 needed the extra time anyhow.

STALKER 2 isn’t a first party title, and isn’t published by Xbox. No MS control of STALKER’s release date.

I'm looking forward to trying it out. Seems like a game I'll enjoy at least messing around in for a few hours.

I will look forward to helping all of my LGBT teammates find love. I found the teammates in The Outer Worlds to be pretty awful or bland and the main game to be boring. But I kept going back for more and recently played it with the DLC, which I found to be decent. Odd that the DLC was better than the main game. If this game turns out to be any good, I will be shocked.

I don't get how first person melee combat is remotely fun. It's crap and janky and depending on the field of view you can barely see where you're getting hit from the sides, back etc.

I know people love Skyrim but let's not pretend it has amazing gameplay.

You can always play this in third person.

Lets see if obsidian makes it work to release a game that isnt a buggy mess (KOTOR 2),with half the content cut (KOTOR 2, Fallout NV) or boring that it makes you sleep (Outer Worlds), by that metric the last half decent game they released was Fallout New Vegas 14 Years ago, i couldnt get warm with the Pillars Games, i hope they can do better this time.

"Condensed Skyrim" sounds perfect to me. Cautiously optimistic now.

I do agree that the visuals, while not bad per se, do lack that "oomph" factor. Art style is very generic yes.
