Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

Been hearing mixed impressions on this movie on fb now. From 6/10, still see it if you're comic book fan to people having orgasms over how good it is. Nothing along the lines of 3 or 4/10 though. 3 more days until I find out.

Can't wait for the hundreds of GAF threads replacing Men of Steel. A least polarising films like this provide lots of discussion points. Ultimately that's what true art does.

For the people who liked this movie, would you want Synder to direct the next 5 DCU movies?
I think I'm good.

I like Snyder a lot. His visuals and action rule my world, but there's no way I want to see him do any more superhero stuff after this. At the very least get him a good story team.

No director should do 5 movies. The whole point of a universe like this is that you have different directors working with different characters. It's a safe bet and means there's a bigger chance of getting a good movie out of them.

Okay, I saw it. "Meh" pretty much sums it up.

On the plus side,

* It wasn't as boring as MoS or Thor 2 but that's a really low ceiling. I also don't mind the darker interpretation of Bat and Supes since I'm not a comic reader.

* I'm intrigued with this universe's Bat story. It seems darker and more exciting than Nolan's.

* Wonder Woman is fun. She has screen presence that makes you want to see more of her.

On the negative side,

* This film needs some trimmings. There are too many plot threads shoved into one film. The first act was especially awful and had me mentally checking out.
* What's the point of putting those JL appearances when audiences have no point of reference of what they actually means? This is taking that AoU Thor's flashes and dialiing it up to 11. It was distracting and it interferes with the flow of the story.
* Editing is a mess. The first and second act can definitely use some tidying up. I also hate the blue hue they applied to the first act of the film. People criticise Marvel for their plain look but at least they have the balls to shoot action scenes in broad daylight without using excessive darkening filters.
* Music mixing are awful and downright cheesy at times, especially those ww musical moments or any JL inserts.
* Fuck Lex Luthor and I'm not even blaming Eisenberg as the choice to play him like this is due to script and direction. But he basically makes the movie lose a great deal credibility. He's just annoying and not intimidating at all.
* I feel like the movie want me to mourn at the end of it. But it felt unearned as I don't have much attachment to any of the characters. Are they cool? Yeah. But they're not relatable and I feel no sympathy for any of them.
* For that matter, the premise of the film, aka the film's title would have had more weight had I had the chance to know both of them better. As it is now, they just look like a tool and an asshole duking it out because Richie Rich wants to play villain.
* I feel like this would have been a better film if it's just about Batman and his trauma in this version. It's not like Superman is in it that much. If they had done and fleshed out Bat first, he wouldn't have looked like a psychopath with anger management problem.
* I'm not interested in the flop version of the other Metahumans. They all look awful.

I didn't like BvS, but I think Snyder has to go. His vision of Batman and Superman are flawed, completely turning them into heroes that the audience has difficulty rooting for and almost making people actively dislike them instead. Batman shouldn't kill and should avoid using guns, and Superman needs to be more of what he's wearing on his chest: a symbol for hope, someone to look up to, not a brooding reluctant God who is just going through the motions when he feels like it while killing people as well, I mean WTF????

Nah, Snyder isn't getting it, and he needs to go IMHO. Put him on a Spawn movie and that could be good, but get him the hell away from Batman and Superman.

Why? Michael Keaton should as hell didnt care, not to mention that if you were paying attention this is a batman that is already grizzled and have escalated his methods of doing things, this was hinted in the movie so hard and made more obvious than the evacuated Metropolis part.

Regarding Lex Im curious about how he learned about Darkseid, was It in the Kriptonian spaceship when he said to the AI to tech him everyth
ing?

I'm not too hot about the movie, but I still think he has good visuals. Limit him to the action scenes and I think he'll be fine. Besides, I really want to see his take on a Flash set piece.

You know, I've never been to a movie where the crowd clapped afterwards. And I've gone to the movies plenty of times. Picturing it is hilarious. There's no one to clap "at."
And then you add people clapping after this movie(there have been anecdotes of that happening) and it's just the funniest thing ever.

People are easily entertained I suppose. Or just like clapping for any little reason.

With the existence of Superman more metahumans will come out of the woodworks

The meta human subplot was lost on me. Are they essentially mutants? Why did Lex have a file on them? How did they become meta humans?

Other than seeing a folder on Wonder Woman's PC named "metahuman" how is the audience supposed to know wtf this movie is talking about?

Well that isn't going to happen, at most he'll just do JL because he's already getting burnt out.

I wouldn't mind him on JL, I want to see him and Terrio finish this trilogy they have in mind (Terrior considers MoS/BvS/JL a trilogy). The only real issue I have with BvS was the pacing and that was because of how much they had to put in with WW & JL stuff.

You mean Days of Future Past/DoFP? It nullifies/retcons X-men 3: The Last Stand, X-men: Origins: Wolverine, and sets-up for X-men: Age of Apocalypse.

X-men, X-men 2, and X-men: First Class are still in the timeline. It's basically the original director retconning the two films (leaving one that set up for DoFP) that weren't directed by him and keeping fans happy because a lot HATED X-men 3 and X-men: Origins.

My problems with the movie were less with retcons and more with how unconvincing the ending was (e.g. Magneto, who flies away after trying to kill the president (Nixon too) and dropping a stadium around him... but no sentinel program... What!?).

That shit makes no sense to me at all.

Such an stupid thing to say.
It is pretty much a way of being condescending to their audience. Like "we did not set out to make a good movie, but one that will sell tickets."
Sounds like something Transformers movies would have used in its defense.

Actually I have more respect that they did not try to defend them. Be honest about it.

Affleck was the one good thing about this movie, he absolutely killed it. Jeremy Irons as Alfred was great too, I just want a solo Batman movie now.

Everything else was just terrible. I think my biggest disappointment was how flat the action was - I figured I could at least count on some really nice visuals from Snyder, but the action sequences were just as boring as everything else.

Grace Randolph's review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB-PQALppFQ

Have you ever disagreed with every sentence in a review before?

"I prefer Zack Snyder to Stanley Kubrick. That's right. You heard me. I prefer Zack Snyder to Stanley Kubrick and when you see this movie, you'll see why."

Bad character development, bad plot, bad pacing, bad acting. This is not a good movie.

Can you have fun with it? Yes. I had fun with it, but the movie is actually a bad movie on multiple levels.

I think kids will love it. Maybe.

I think the fact that the sentinels were so easily turned against the non-mutants (not that it made the slightest bit of sense that Magneto could do that) and Trask being exposed for selling secrets is what killed the program. You still have to kind of turn your brain off for other aspects of the ending but I think fans were willing to do that for any outcome that retcons everything after Xmen 2.

I'm going to go on record to say now that I'm not convinced that Apocalypse is going to be any better than BvS based on what's been shown so far. All the trailers are giving me terrible vibes.

Iron Man 3 suffers from a lot of the same problems BvS suffers from (plot incoherency, overstuffed with sideplots, poor characterizations, needlessly drawn out action scenes), but that's okay.

It's a movie made for fans, not critics like me.

The kid at my screening was slouched so low in his seat he looked like that deflated girl from anti drug commercials.

Most kids I saw looked bored.
Too much talking is in it for today's kids, they like stuff like Minions.
This is purely for the 20 year old dudebros in terms of catering.

So is Henry Cavill actually good? I can't tell.

I don't know, I liked him in Man of Steel but he is so lifeless in BvS. It's not really his fault though, it's just the sript he was given. Based on his interviews, I think he could pull off a more traditional and positive version of Superman but that's probably never happening.

I've been to a few movies where the audience clapped at the end. Recent films that come to mind are Guardians of the Galaxy and Creed. It's pretty cool when it happens actually.

I think kids will love it. Maybe.

I know a few kids who have seen it now and they thought it was boring, too dark, and way too violent. I don't think kids are going to enjoy much.

Such a shame though fucking Snyder
