Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

Eh. Daredevil's first two seasons have neither been lighthearted, nor particularly funny. That said, they're also restrained, focused, and (most importantly) enjoyable. Same goes for Nolan's first couple of Bat-flicks.

Not to shit on a film I haven't seen, but critical bias is probably not the leading factor here.
What? Daredevil has PLENTY of comic relief...

This makes no sense. No fucking way.

I wonder if Wonder Woman will be trash too. I really, really hope not. Hopefully the director can make something work there.

Yeah I personally want that film to do good as well. I'll at least give that the benefit of the doubt given the director in charge (Patty Jenkins) apparently has a good track record.

At least you aren't comparing that to Batman and Robin.

Batman Forever isn't that bad though.

What a disaster. The real shame is that the brass at WB will see the returns (this thing will do 800 mil worldwide I reckon) and keep Snyder on for JL.

It apparently needs to crack a billion to break even, so maybe that prediction wouldn't actually bode well for Snyder!

Was the screenplay really the problem with Pan?

Seems like a movie where you can't pinpoint the problem to just one thing.

edit: haven't seen it, thats just based on reactions to it and trailers
The original screenplay for Pan was excellent. It was botched by the director. Which reminds me of some movie I'm posting in a thread of.

MOVIE SPOILER (just to make sure people dont click on this thinking its a joke or something):

Cyborg is being horrifically assembled by a big mother box or something as he screams on a table. Its ghastly!

That actually sounds interesting.

I wonder if his solo film will be sci-fi with some horror elements.

it was a stupid ass movie overall. it looked nice and vibrant but man i hate to admit it but i think joe wright really fucked that one up with some of his decisions.

the script was bad too though, really bad. just some weak ass story beats.

unless wright dramatically altered the plot i don't think the script was particularly good.

You're right I suppose. The guys hasn't really written anything else except an Ice Age movie so it's not too fair to judge anyway.

Edit: That said the script is pretty fucking bad.

O dam.

Val Kilmer redeemed.
Val Kilmer was always good though. Favorite Bruce so far. Am I wrong for liking a real Schumacher film? He's said that his original idea for a Batman movie was closer to Batman begins. I'd like for him to have some kind of redemption. Like, give him Nightwing or something.

Pan is an absolute giant piece of flaming dogshit surrounded by more dogshit that no good screen play could have helped it. Not even Hugh Jackmans ham could help the film. Pan and Taken 3 were the only movies I left the theater feeling like my time was wasted and my intelligence was offended.

On Wonder Woman (movie spoilers):

It's really weird for people to say "they really got Wonder Woman right!"

She's barely in it, helps out in the fight with Doomsday but doesn't really do anything of note outside of simply build toward Justice League. She's shoehorned in and in a movie where theres 8000 pieces moving at once, its not a great move.

I figured this would be the case. Aiming too big and trying to force catchup with marvel. With Snyder of all people. I mean I was OK with MOS. I didn't mind Clark being a little hesitant to embrace himself and I thought Pa Kent was perfect.

This movie I had a wtf look on my face from the moment they revealed it. It is similar to MK vs DC. A big why are we doing this? The more that came out I just kept scratching my head.

Oh well. Back to DC TV universe for me.

How in the world did they spend 750 mil on marketing and toys? I'm not doubting it at all, I guess they just doubled down on this thing being a massive success whether the movie sucked or not.

The Batman solo film with Ben Affleck at helm is going to get pushed ahead of Justice League, isn't it?

Justice League starts shooting in three weeks, so no. But I would not be surprised if they gave JL2's 2019 slot to an Affleck Batman movie, and pushed JL2 off for a couple years instead.

Man of Steel's action is one-note and discordant with Superman's character because it's littered with disaster porn. Age of Ultron at least gets that right by having the climax be more about the team limiting casualties than beating the bad guy.

Age of Ultron does feel too dense and quippy, and Ultron feels underdeveloped. It's flawed, but certainly not garbage.
Calling Man of Steel's action one-note disaster porn is absurd, Clark even rescued people, but he wasn't Superman yet in Man of Steel he was in the process of becoming Superman all the while being a lone character facing a global threat. Clark actively limits causalities BY beating the bad guy. Zod himself said he would stop at nothing which lead to the admittedly flimsy conclusion.

Whereas Age of Ultron somehow manages to have an entire scene dedicated to Hulk facing Iron Man with people littered throughout the entire runtime of that scene and somehow there is a not single person injured in this several city block destruction/beatdown and correct me if I'm wrong, most citizens aren't directly attacked by Ultron or his bots so much as they're often treated as being in the wrong place at the right time. This is ignoring these rescues by Captain America and co whom would have ultimately served better actively working to stop the main threat.

They didn't give an exact year for Batman yet. So yeah, I think we'll be seeing WB going 3 superhero movies per year sooner than expected.

I was torn on Iron Man 3 when it first came out. I thought it wasn't what I wanted it to be (in terms of a full out Iron Man movie) yet it was still bound to a chain that didn't let it go as far as it could have (with SB at the helm), but I came to appreciate it in repeated viewings, and I like it a lot now. And it's a great movie on its own in terms of action, character and style.

In any case, we can at least all agree that the "bu bu bu they changed the Mandarin" people are literally THE WORST.

The Batman Forever image is good for a joke, but I'm pretty sure Batman Forever would have a much lower score than that if it were released today.

Was Pan worth watching for Hugh Jackman hamming it up? Because I've thought about renting it from Netflix.

Studios don't take home 100% of the theatrical box office.

It's more like 50-55% of domestic take and 35-45% of the overseas take depending on territory breakdown.

Batman Forever gave us the opportunity to have Jim Carrey and Tommy L Jones in the same room long enough for Tom to tell Jim he doesn't approve of his "buffoonery" on set.

That was worth it alone.
