GREEN LANTERN

OVERALL: 26%, 4.2 average rating, 226 reviews, 167 rotten.
TOP CRITICS: 19%, 4.2 average rating, 43 reviews, 35 rotten.

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

OVERALL: 31%, 5.1 average rating, 185 reviews, 127 rotten.
TOP CRITICS: 27%, 4.9 average rating, 45 reviews, 33 rotten

It won't kick Green Lantern off the shitter, but it'll probably take position playing peek-a-mouse at the right-hand urinal.

is this a prediction? I don't see that many reviews and top critic score is much higher.

cartoons and toys were better

Depends. The affordable ones meant for kids? Absolutely. But there's some incredible toys being made nowadays meant for adults that I would have killed for as a kid. The trade-off is a lot of them cost as much as a monthly student loan payment.

I can't see this movie not making a ton of money, by the way. It's all about the critics now, but soon its going to be all about the box office. The hype for this movie can't be deflated that easily. It's going to go all over the world and make a lot of money everywhere right out of the gate.

I dunno, the only big blockbusters to get these kinds of unambiguously bad reviews are the Transformers movies.. There are a bunch of successful box office movies to receive mediocre/mixed reviews and still do fine at the box office, but very few universally panned movies do. WB is banking on this to do avengers type numbers, which would be unprecedented for a film with reviews this bad, at least domestically. Best they can hope for is that it pulls a Transformers and does really well in overseas markets.

The blind trust in Terrio never made sense to me. I thought Argo was good but he has a whole bunch of nothing aside from that.

"He is an Oscar winner!"

Someone was talking about whether this would hit Green Lantern levels, so I just pulled the stats as of right now.

Looking at what's there, I don't see it descending down to Green Lantern levels based on where it's at the day of release, and the reception GL wound up with. The remaining 100+ reviews left in the tank probably won't knock the aggregate down that much further.

It might dip quietly beneath the threshold of 30% like a turtlehead catching a stray restroom breeze.

Which is still unlikely, because this honestly doesn't look like a film international audiences will flock to, at least in the numbers WB is hoping for.

I'm asking because I also see 31 for the main score but only 185 reviews counted (not 226) and only 35 reviews for top critics (instead of 43). Never seen mine be that out of date before, a lot of missing reviews if so.

Nah, it was just an early rumor that turned out to be unsubstantiated and ultimately false.

If I was constructing the world it would make sense for there to be a relationship between them though, just for efficiency. Say that the old Kryptonian empire interfered with the evolution of humans, which is why we wound up looking like them (maybe they put in metagene or something if you want to introduce that plot line later on), and that Amazons + Atlanteans are both distant offshoots of Kryptopnians who lived on Earth.

Another rumor floating around that period had Amazons and Atlanteans, and by extension Wonder Woman and Aquaman related.

I just don't think moviegoers are going to rate this thing as low as what the critics do.

I guess Terrio wasn't able to unfuck the Goyer out of it in the end.

Why is everybody placing the blame on Goyer ? He at least contributed to the success of the Dark Knight trilogy and he was the one who convinced Nolan to respect Batman's no-killing rule. Sure, he's far from a perfect writer (and he is a terrible director) but I don't think he deserves all the hate he gets after his work on Blade 1 and 2 and the Dark Knight trilogy.

Terrio might have an Oscar but this is his first superhero movie and based on his past work, BvS feels a lot more like a Terrio script than a Goyer one (of course, that is pure speculation on my part) and it is a huge failure on almost every level. Terrio is talented but he shouldn't be writing superhero movies and he completely butchered Batman, he actually made him stupid.

how sad is it that this thread got me through a big chunk of time at work last night.

I dont even particulary have anything against snyder or the movie lol :(

This thread is more entertaining then the movie.
And its nice that the mods allow to joke that much around.

Somewhat paradoxically, I'm actually kind of keen to check this out now. I want to see a movie this week and everything else that's playing in town I've either seen, or am not interested in. The reviews and impressions are bad enough that it might even be a pleasant surprise, so low have I set my expectations.

Haven't seen Man of Steel though. Which might be interesting as an experiment.

Funny enough, all the impressions and negative feedback have me intrigued. I was gonna go check it anyway because its Batman and Superman but now, after hearing some hints about what goes down in the movie, I cant wait to see what the fuss is about.

This may actually help you since a people seem to be able to handle a single serving of Grimdark Superman.

Batman v Superman was a really bad idea to begin with in my opinion. Before this movie, DC should have made a complete reboot of all the characters. It is like if Marvel wanted to start with the Avangers before making the Iron Man, Thor, Captain America movies. It just wouldn't work. Another thing that I really hate about DC is that they separate their TV Shows from their Movies. So the fact that they decided to use a complete different actor for Flash was a HUGE mistake. Anyway, I'm not at all surprised by the bad reviews because it was doomed to flop since the beggining.

Nope. Because then the Flash movie would be corny as fuck and be constrained in the storylines it could use.

Plus, Arrow would be movie canon.

Yup, it's going to be an interesting failure at the very least. And a failure that's probably going to be pretty nice to look at.

There are a couple of Marvel movies I still haven't seen, because I know it's going to be so middle of the road. This thing I want to see.

I want to take this opportunity to say that, while leading up to this movie's release I was vocally negative about it at times, as well as cynical and mocking, I wanted it to be good. I never actively hope that a movie is a trainwreck, and I always hope that a movie can surprise me. I think I saw a lot of the warning signs coming on this one, but I wanted to be wrong. I like Superman, I (sometimes) like Batman, and goddamnit this movie should have been better

It's rough liking Superman. In general, really.
