Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

Reading some impressions you really get the sense that Snyder's biggest failing is that he doesn't have a feel for narrative flow and storytelling at a basic level. He'd probably benefit hugely from letting someone else put his films together after he shoots them.

It's the same problem with Man of Steel. More than an hour in, it's still doing the flashback thing, but the narrative shifts don't flow, the flashbacks don't really help to add anything to the present storyline most of the time. And if it's not helping, it's actually hurting - there's no real inbetween.

You can see he has high-minded intentions with the way he cuts his films, but he doesn't actually pull it off. It reminds me of when great comic book artists get big enough, they inevitably try to write too - and you can usually tell, suddenly these guys are "cutting" their own stuff, and it's not nearly as good.

I feel like this one was even worse than usual because it's the usual Snyder shittiness mixed in with obvious corporate mandates everywhere to build a franchise. It's like polishing shit with a turd.

I really have no reason at all to be optimistic about any of this DC universe stuff coming up. This movie was a total bomb imo, and they should just scrap the whole thing and start again.

They save a lot of money with their tv level effects and cinematography

It can't be argued that the marvel movies look insanely sterile.

Just like for videogames, "graphics" aren't everything, but Marvel can't be commended for producing such boring art direction given the money they make.

And to everyone saying I'm being a critic just by saying I liked it and to not listen to people, isn't that what people should do? So apparently if you have an opinion and voice it, you're a critic. I didn't critique the movie in any way, so it doesn't really fit the definition of "critic". If you only will pay money if 100% of everyone absolutely loved it, I feel sorry for you.

Outlined: No. It's okay to take the opinions of others into account when deciding to watch something. Even the opinions of critics, the literal scum of the earth.

Bolded: YES.

Italicized: Literally nobody does this.

Here's the thing.

AoU was bland and generic, was bored to death and unimpressed. Couldn't care at all.

This is not something that happens with BvS, it's either gonna make you mad, or you'll at least care to see where the whole thing ends at. Was also more interesting in its action.

Some people did get bored to death though apparently so hopefully it won't be your case.

If anything, it is NOT worse than Spiderman 3. I'll fight anybody that disagrees with that.

Heh sounds interesting and double edged.

Snyder does feel like a second-year film or art student in that regard. Someone who has ideas and the ambitions to execute them, but is too inexperienced to understand why craft exists and too narcissistic to realize their own inexperience.

Don't come down here with your anger, trying to prove something to yourself. This is a world you'll never understand. And you always fear what you don't understand. Alright.

I'd still take that over the grey morass that Snyder's given us.

It could very well smooth out some pacing issues in the first half, but I think the bigger problem is that there's just too much in this film.
A good chunk could have been trimmed. Honestly removing all but the Lord Superman dream would have worked as well. Had a hard time keeping up if in a dream or real.

Why have an opinion at all? Let others dictate what you watch, eat, drive, read. It's a one time purchase.

I would prefer to follow the word of friends, critics and colleagues over that of marketing dollars. Obviously I form my own opinion after I consume media, but there is way too much media to consume to just blindly go to everything. There are a million other movies I could choose to watch other than BvS, and if general consensus is that BvS is bad, while other movies that I haven't seen are good, I'd have to be either a fool or completely absorbed into brand loyalty to see BvS.

In regards to the cinematography and editing in the action scenes, does this fall into the "shake the camera and hope for the best" school of filmmaking or is there actual, thoughtful choreography and editing like Daredevil (Netflix), Mad Max: Fury Road, John Wick, etc...?

The trailer of Batman in the warehouse shows the best action the movie offers. I thought Man of Steel had much more impressive action.

I hated Spider-Man 3 for years. I recently rewatched it though and... it's not awful? Like there's clearly way too much going on and both Emo Parker and Foreman Venom are embarrassing, but it still has a coherent plot, well-shot action scenes, and a lot of genuinely fun moments. It's like a 6/10 movie. It's unfortunate that Raimi wasn't allowed to just make the movie he wanted to.

BvS IS Spider-Man 3. They're so similar down to the Cgi final fight

I've been thinking that Marvel has done the best thing for Civil War possible: show Civil War trailer before BvS

Apparently everyone cheered at the trailer, especially with Spidey's reveal, this has definitely hyped audiences, even if they were disappointed with BvS, people will remember the Civil War trailer, making everyone want to see the movie, which could lead to Civil War actually having a better profit than BvS

At the beginning of the year, as much of a Marvel fan I am, I didn't expect Civil War actually getting a better box office than BvS because even if Civil War is almost an ensemble movie, BvS has Batman and Superman in its title, yet it's starting to look better for Marvel than DC, maybe even Doctor Strange gets a better box office, the possibilities are endless now

As an aside, the user reviews are coming down now that the film is out and people are actually seeing it. 74% liked it vs. 78%, average review of 3.9 vs. 4.1 in that shot. Probably a normal trend for these kind of films but I wonder whether it will fall in line with the critics or whether there will be a gap in the end, as there sometimes is.

Audience rating is interesting. I don't think I've seen a gap between critic and audience this big since Man on Fire.

mahvel does it again

dc babbies get rekt

So does anyone know if I'll get the LEGO Batman trailer?
I got mostly old trailers. New was LEGO Batman, Ghostbusters, and Fantastic Beasts.
So if you start with Ghostbusters then there is a good chance.

Edit: Will probably be called a Marvel fanboy even though LEGO Batman has all my money.

Gotta be embarrassing for a creative type when their earlier movies show a better understanding of the medium than their later ones.

He went from flawed yet promising to predictably terrible over the last decade or so.

I hope this makes $2 billion and this just becomes the reality that the haters have to live with.

Seeing the Thursday night numbers come in was pretty cathartic.

'haters' does it really bother you when people call a bad movie bad? We already live a reality where terrible shit sells millions I don't see why you would get such a thrill out of it.

It was still make what it was gonna make on opening night, and likely the weekend. Come back in two weeks and see if you are still feeling cathartic.
