I first learned of the Sad Affleck video via a friend's Facebook wall. It later showed up in my recommended stories. Had no idea it was a GAFfer. Congrats on the well-deserved internet fame, Betty!
Still have not seen the movie, sadly. My spouse refuses to pay money to see it in theatres on principle(we both HATED Man of Steel), and I don't want to see it alone, so I guess I have to see it with a friend or just wait for Redbox.

Oh god, this maybe worse than what I thought it would be. I thought some extra time could fix the non-continuous problem, like a better transition or better explanation to some characters' motivation or so.

Mirrors my sentiments succinctly. Zack Snyder tried too much and wasted most of this film's potential.
Let's not go crazy here. Thor 2 shouldn't be anywhere but the bottom of any list.

Maybe it's cause my expectations were astronomically low, but I thought it was an alright movie. It had problems for sure and non comic fans probably have no idea of all the darkseid teasing and what all that stuff was about (explaining all the references and reasoning beyond stuff to others was a PITA) but lol one of my friends in our party fell asleep half way through and literally missed all the action.

Man I straight up wept when the sting played and the logo popped up.
Only time in my movie going life (and I'v been to a shitload of movies and theaters) that I can honestly say the atmosphere in a theater felt like a Broadway show. People were ecstatic.

Yeah so..I saw this. I don't want to hear anybody say "wow they made a movie with a talking raccoon" or "wow R-rated superhero movie" as some major risk ever again. THIS movie, what the hell. How in the hell did they make this movie, with their two biggest characters (well 3 biggest I suppose) nonetheless. This is such an obvious hard sell to general audiences and especially kids.
It's not as bad as the reviews make it out but it ain't good either. It has that problem I've had with a few movies of this ilk lately. Particularly Age of Ultron, Ant Man and Man of Steel where I kind of stopped giving a shit about the story and just wanted to get to the final battle already. And when that happened I kind of didn't really care and wanted it all to end already.
But having said that the first 20 minutes are brilliant. Like top-tier comic book movie filmmaking there. I was impressed and had the pacing not turned to garbage after and some great ideas (and bad ideas) not been squandered this would be the best superhero movie since Spiderman 2.
Instead it's a 5/10 at best, and I'm just giving it that rating for the strength of the first 20 minutes and also Ben Affleck/Irons who are fantastic.

Yeah this seems like the real definition of 'risk' in comic book movies. Trying some real fuckery with the characters. It sounds like a really jumblefuck of a movie. Least there's some good to it.
But that also makes it bad that the potential dies immediately.
Yes, a lot of people were happy that it was finally over. JK, I haven't seen the movie yet, jumping aboard the hate train is just fun. Gonna publish a review called "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Just Ass" after I see it. I'm excited for it.

Came back from the theater with my wife and a few friends and it was unanimous: just not that great of a movie.
Scenes felt disjointed, seemingly throwing you into conversations already in progress. Batman started out alright
it just didn't make any sense why he doesn't just carry firearms against every single thug he fought. The title of movie, and all the hype about "God vs Man" lasted like 10 whole minutes of the entire 2 hours and a half.
Even a few friends who didn't know anything about the critics reviews or even big comic fans just weren't into it, when otherwise they would be all for the ride of it, as they usually are whenever we any big blockbuster movie.
One up shot was a nice cheer from our audience that my wife started when Wonder Woman showed up, but once the credits rolled literally everyone was just talking to each other all around just disappointed. And it wasn't like a hatred towards the movie but instead just a weird empty feeling like you were robbed of a good experience.
I wanted to love it. I wanted to cheer for Batman, Superman, or anyone for that matter, and yet at the end of it all all I could do was shrug and just hope to god Civil War doesn't suffer the same fate. It was such a bad time for me that it made me worried about other movies coming out this year and being this disappointed.

So like... I don't hate the movie. It's most definitely not a good movie, but I don't hate it. I'm frustrated by it. Every scene that is set up well, it just takes it an inch too far. Or like... 10 inches. I never had a problem with this movie conceptually, and I still don't. The error is all in execution.
It makes perfect sense, and it's important that the film does this, that we see the perspective of the people on the ground during the MoS fight. And thus it makes perfect sense that Batman would see Superman as a threat. Why you would use a particular piece to tell this story makes sense, but it's all just so clumsily put-together.
It's the equivalent of playing a beautiful song on the piano with bricks for fingers. Transitions from one scene to a next can feel really fucking jarring, some of the reasoning for things are convoluted as shit, and I didn't feel excited for things that were happening.
I'll save more for the Spoiler Thread, but I'll make broad points.
+ Affleck is a fine Batman. The obvious jarring character flaw that has been talked about to death is problematic, but in terms of actually playing the character, his presence on-screen, he's great. He deserves better than this movie gave him.
+ Gal Gadot is fine as Wonder Woman. I have hope for her movie. Underdeveloped, but it's also not her story. She's here to intervene rather than be a major player. I have issues with the actresses politics, but I think there are enough clever little bits here and there that I enjoyed when she was on-screen.
+ The action is well done. Like, on its own, never let it be said that Snyder doesn't make superheroes look cool.
+ There are plenty of scenes here that are generally set up really well....
- ...but almost all of them always go further than they need to and it just comes off as clumsy or silly. Every single dramatic moment that is dramatic enough on its own is punctuated with the equivalent of a dozen exclamation marks. Either with silly music cues, or an overthetop expression etc. Very few things are allowed to stand on their own without Snyder shoving your face in it. Again, bricks for fingers...
- Cavill's Superman is so fucking dry... Just... ugh. No real charm or joy or anything. There's nothing there to root for. I'm trying really hard to avoid making Marvel comparisons, but in the first Cap movie, when Steve asked the question "Do you want to kill Nazis?", his response perfectly sets the tone of that character. "I don't want to kill anyone. I don't like bullies. I don't care where they're from." When I heard that line, I was completely behind him. "This is a guy I see as a hero. He isn't a fucking meathead like everyone else, but instead he's a guy of conscience." This take on Superman never has that. Not in Man of Steel, and not here.
- Clumsy editing, or little explanation to the audience as what's going on. When I saw the Knightmare stuff, I knew exactly what's going on. I understood exactly what's being implied. But if I didn't have all this DC Comics knowledge, I'd be so fucking lost. If you set that scene up better, you could justify why it's there far more easily. But instead, I head a million "Wait, what the fuck is happening?" murmurs from the audience.
- Still dumb moments that are just... UUUUGHGHSGSJFHASLJFHASL Superman in the courthouse after... "the big moment" is the new "Johnathan in the tornado." I laughed so fucking hard at how awfully that scene was executed. Like... he's just standing there shaking his fucking head! Like.... WHAT?!
- Batman and Superman's single-most glaring character inconsistency from their comic counterparts. People know what I'm talking about.
- There are so many awkward tableaus in this movie. Dramatic "look how meaningful this imagery is!" pans of people reaching, or someone holding a pose etc. It's just so awkward and silly, and just holds for too long. Scenes that make sense why they'd be there, but if were handled by someone less enamored with their own fucking self-importance, could've been really fucking good moments.
- Eisenberg's Lex. Again, I have zero fucking problem with this on paper. I understand why you would contemporize the modern day tech genius billionaire as a Zuckerberg-type rather than the image of "evil Daddy Warbucks." But he's so overly manic that he never seemed scary. If he was a more manic excited character in public, but privately, when he really wanted to intimidate you, he was far more subdued etc, that might actually have been unsettling. But he's not. He would've been a fantastic Riddler, I thought while watching his performance. But his Lex was poor.
Again, I didn't outright hate it. I agree with the 5/10 reviews more than those that are calling it the worst fucking thing ever. It's not. It's just frustrating and disappointing. There are pieces that could've been made into a good movie, but instead, is a clunky frustrating mess that doesn't make alot of sense.
I am very curious about the 3 hour cut, if that would fill in the blanks and make this movie flow better, but as is, it's just.... Ugh.

I'm just gonna repost what I said on my Facebook because fuck this movie for wasting any more of my time.
When it comes to comics and superheroes, I've always been a DC guy. I've liked their characters better and I've found myself more interested in their ideas of legacy and the way they treat their heroes with an almost mythological status. I love what Marvel is doing but I've always been pulling for DC to get its act together and maybe get its own moment to shine. Now with that in mind....
Batman v Superman is without a doubt one of the most unpleasant, miserable, and depressing cinematic experiences I've ever had. Relentlessly dour and devoid of anything resembling joy. It is every worst fear realized for fans of Batman AND Superman; robbing them both of their rich, complex characterizations and leaving grotesque caricatures in their place.
And that's to say nothing of the overly long, jumbled mess of a plot that either bores, frustrates, or confuses you at every moment. Failing on almost every level imaginable, there is nothing of value to be found in this film. Nothing.
I hate it as much as the filmmaker seemingly hates the idea of a superhero movie. But that would seem to imply he even understands the concept.

I thought it was better than a lot of the Marvel stuff recently, but let's be honest here. What does DC have that Marvel doesn't... Batman. That's all that really worked in this movie 100%. I'm super excited about a new Batman movie now. Lex Luthor was terrible, worst part of the movie. I feel the same about Superman before and after this movie, not much. Wonder Woman was pretty cool though, they nailed her.
