Well a single headshot as Recon can net you an extra 100-400 with the marksman bonus. If you're good at a distance of course. Other than that, you don't have too many ways to rack up the points besides 10 at a time from spotting and SOFLAM.

and that's the problem. The points are lopsided to other classes. Why bother using a MAV and spotting people when you only get 10 points spot assists (or 200 bonus with six spots... which doesn't even FUCKING WORK WITH THE STARTING SPOTTING ASSIST KIT ITEM!/T-UGS) when you can spam explosives or ammo or revives and get a faster leveling class/top-of-the-leaderboard with less work?

In any case: Most people don't want to leave Engineers because "*GASP* I HAVE TO RUN AWAY FROM A TANK NOW!?"/have to deal with situations instead of being a one-man-army Call Of Duty kid. :|

i think they want recon to be the lesser played class on purpose and I think that is fine. They don't need more balancing, they just need some tweaks to how they get points and some benefits. Seems now also that the really good recon players are finding their groove and kicking ass now. It definitely is not a noob friendly class.

Support needing buff? Don't think so, they must be least played for them to say this. Do see LOT more assault players around now, guess its the awesome later unlocks, especially the F2000

I'm not saying the balance for recon (outside of the shitty semi-auto snipers which I've never been a fan off and the bolt-action/actual sniper rifles not being too useful on most of the vanilla maps) isn't fine. It's okay, could be better I feel with a slight buff on some of the weapons like some of the other classes weapons. And I'm not saying more people need to do it: God help us if more people go recon on consoles and can't throw a T-UGS/MAV out while I'm the only one doing it and getting out of MAV cameras to help DEFEND when push comes to it... What I'm saying is: The class is poorly mis-handled in comparison to the other classes when it comes to leveling and "I helped the team" feeling in terms of points. I can top the leaderboards with recon and have done it a few times with shitty teams and having to pick up other classes kits to refill ammo/keep myself alive... but it's 20x the work compared to other classes. Why bother playing them?

Dreamgazer in the console thread said they're "SPM suicide and only benefit if you want to help the team" which is half-true.

Can someone get me a link to the awesome youtube clips where the dude was messing with people with C4 and parachuting out of helicopters and shooting planes out of the sky? I can't find them.

Youtube: Operation Dickhead/Asshat/Douchebag.

Thank me later.

Do I only earn points once the round ends? Leaving in the middle of a match gets me nothing right?
I only ask because I've been on servers that stay on one map for a long time, with really big ticket counts, so I'm not sure whether or not I'm getting anything if I have to leave early.

Assuming you're talking about the PC version, you will get your points even if you leave mid-match. A good way to check if this is the case is to see if there is a battle report after the match you left ends. The points aren't reflected until the match ends and the battle report hits Battlelog.

PC version ya. Good to know, thanks.
Also, Battlefield 3 is 50% off on Origin for black friday, at $29.99

Damn, MCOM Defender wasn't that easy to get really. Then it dawned on me how to do it. Hardcore Rush on Operation Firestorm. Got it within the first 3 minutes, and it felt good. Found a really good spot in the first refinery-building near (is it) A.

What's interesting is the fact that 20-24% of people are playing Recon at any one time, which contradicts my anecdotal evidence that Recon is very unpopular (though that could be because I mainly play CQ and Recons are more common in Rush).

I expected Engineers to be the most played class, but Alan says its Assault, again an interesting difference from my online experience.

Lastly, he says that if any class were to get a buff it'd be Support. I feel it should be Recon, and then maybe Support, but Demize99 obviously sees it differently.

I hated Recon at first, now it's my most played class. There's just something so satisfying killing the dude repairing a tank from 600 meters. I feed on his tears. I only wish they buffed the SOFLAM and made it so that I didn't have to hit the head to get the kill at very long distances. I have no problem of getting the headshot at 500 m+ if the guy is laying prone sniping himself, but if he's running around I think I should get the kill if I manage to hit him.

I don't see why support would need a buff when he's already got claymores, C4s and freaking mortars. Not to mention it's so easy to rack points by just laying down ammo packs. Only thing easier than that is going defib assault in 64 player metro conquest.
From what Alan Kertz has said about BFBC2 balancing in the past, it seems to be a case of letting the balance of items/classes be determined by 'market forces'. If one weapon is being used way more than others, then it gets a nerf (regardless of whether it was OP or UP). In this case it looks like Support is the least played class and so DICE might look at giving some of their weapons or items a buff in order to make people play them more, regardless of whether they are OP or UP.

I used to shake my head at that approach, but over time I've warmed to it as a concept. Where it breaks down though is when the unlock trees don't give the same level of access to items/equipment.

Had the most awful round yesterday. I went 2-15 on Bazaar Market. Everything I tried failed. I was raging so hard. Not because I was playing bad, I just had the worst luck ever with every single thing I did.

FFUU.

Completely disagree. Headshots are a must for insta kills for snipers. Sure it makes the whole stuff harder, but getting a hit on a moving target (given that it's keeping a constant trajectory and speed) isn't really all that hard. And at long ranges, supressing players by taking 75% off their health is very very effective.

Especially when covering a group of players advancing on a flag pole, I allways focus on only hitting/spotting enemy players. I still get massive assist points and sometimes even kills when hitting an injured player.

For all the bullshit that DICE did with balancing, Recon might be the only well balanced class this time. Especially when the class is used as a backup and spotting Role. Points are flying in like crazy.

Where do you need to hit a tank (with another tank) do destroy him in two shots? Could someone use picture to show it?

Thanx.

I'm still not sure how's that supposed to work. Can someone please explain it to me? I've tried it a bit but upon locking on a tank nothing happens. Are other players supposed to hit it with a mortar strike or what?

edit: nvm, found a guide on yt

so i picked up the pc version from ea's black friday sale not expecting to play it until next year when i upgrade since the beta ran like this. out of boredom i gave it a shot anyway and it runs just as well as the console version. im guessing it's because i went back to old drivers(197.45) and some shadows dont render correctly but fuck it plays a lot better so whatever.

so now questions, how do i add the gaf server? also is there a way to reduce the size of the chat box or at least make it display only the previous 3 shouts instead of the 5-7 it does now? i have a 4:3 monitor every time someone says something the box blocks 20% of my screen. it's hard to feed lead pellets to someone when you cant see.

Why am I hardly getting any servers? Did this game die over the week? My buddy is in the same boat. I know it's really late but usually I get 10 times this amount.

BC2 never even got this small, so I have to believe somethings going on...and my game is up to date.

i get this too if i use the filter. turn off all filters and there's plenty of servers. must be a bug.

Yeah, happens to me too. I think it's a bug. No way there's like, 60 players in all of Asia. ;) BC2 didn't have problems with player count even after a year of release. Doubt BF3 will be worse. Only thing that can gut the servers would be the next/another BF game, I think.

Sometimes it appears that there are only 3 servers in all of Asia/AUS and such. Once I refresh it, about 75 percent of the servers are full. Bugs=DICE...sad, but true. Love their games but they should do something about bug squashing and improve it.

Sorry, I meant that I get plenty of servers, but 9/10 or more of them are empty. It's especially bad on Rush (I know not it's not "real BF", but it's never this barren).

I'll try again tomorrow, but fuck...

no thats what i mean. if i use a filter i only see one or two servers with people and the rest are empty but with no filters i see tons of them filled.

I disagree.

Hi Demize. When are you fixing the Co-op alert achievements?

Strife91 said:
Does anyone know who is the lead designer of Bad Company 2?

Gordon Van Dyke, IIRC. But it doesn't really matter: Demize was in charge of balance and infantry experience of BC2 just like he is here in BF3. IIRC, he's been in charge of balance since Vietnam.

Actually Alan Kertz has been in charge of balancing since BF2142. I never played it but many diehard BF guys rate it as the most balanced game in the series.

I've been saying that forever. He's failed so hard twice in a row now. Can't wait for him to fuck up BF4!
BFBC2 is far and away my favourite game in the Battlefield series (although I never played BF2142 or BFV) and indeed my favourite MP game of all time… so I will politely disagree.

Anyone knows if there's a bug that makes a tank at full health moves and lose hit points like it's disabled?

It's happening to me a lot...my tank gets disabled, I fix it, and it still moves way to slowly and it's health decreases at a fast rate...

Since you seem to have some weirdo agenda against this game, and ironically love the MW series in all its glory, perfection, and graphical splendor, can you enlighten us plebs to tell us what you would do differently?

This happened to me a couple of times. My health would be at 60% and I would be awaiting the auto repair to kick in, instead my health keeps dropping. I thought I was getting hit by machine gun fire or something, but here might be more to it.

It's not a bug, if a vehicle is disabled it must be repaired fully to 100% or it will still lose HP.

Problem is that it's pretty damn hard to hit that target twice. My problem with the Recon class is that headshots are pretty much always a must, otherwise you're fucked (my headshot/kill percentage is around 75% for the bolt action rifles). Oddly enough I'm OK with that in close quarters situations where I as a Recon should try to avoid ending up anyway.

I realize this wouldn't make any sense from a realism perspective, but I think it would make the Recon class more fun to play.

Don't really see a nerf to the SCAR, it works fantastic for me and see tons of people still using it. It still is more powerful at killing at range than most of the other carbines.

I know this has been mentioned here before, but it bears repeating; Noshar Canals CQ is so heavily favored for the Russians. They spawn with two tanks and an LAV if I'm not mistaken and they're so close to Flags C and A. While the US side has to travel over the water or be ferried by a chopper.

Yes, I know people can work together to take down the tanks and such, but we all know randoms have the brainpower of a walnut when it comes to Battlefield commonsense.

We take down tanks, they spawn again and attack us with it again and again. It's not like the US can somehow steal the tanks. Heck, that would have been a good "counter" if DICE allowed it.

It's just the design choice for this map baffles me. People say Metro is a broken map, but I don't feel it. Whether I spawn, I just go immediately to B and fight people off to control two points to win. You can't really do that with Canals' flags - especially B. B's wide open and is just a haven for tanks who're capturing it.

I love the game but some design choices baffle me, to be honest.

Anyone have similar complaints in different maps?

So I'm guessing the beta performance on PC was just because it was outdated? Is the retail version actually running smoothly? My pc is shit but I have a high tolerance for low fps, but if it runs considerably better than the beta did then 30$ might be tempting before the day is out...

I had that happen to me a few days ago, I repaired the tank to 100%, hopped in, and it started decreasing in health. I jumped out and back in to fix it.

Won a Conquest round 246-0 on Noshahr Canal. They ended up with 2 players after everyone got bored of being destroyed at their deployment point. It was not fun, and I can't imagine how boring it must have been for the two who were just seeing it through for their Conquest ribbon.

How would you fix this if you were DICE? Personally, I'd have had 3 deployment points, 1 for each team and one neutral. The neautral one only becomes a deployment point for a team who is not in control of any flag
