Battlefield 4 PS4 runs at 720p native [DICE: Incorrect]

You mean that 30-40 fps footage they've released that has 5 characters on screen in small environments without almost any environmental physics?

BF 4 is doing everything KZ:SF is doing technologically except for screen space reflection on every surface, but they have dynamic GI instead [which is cheaper though]. And thats on much greater scale, with much more particles and much more players and from the tweet in rock solid 60fps, so i wouldnt call DICE bad developer by any means.

Still i hoped at least for 1280x1080 on PS4 in similar fashion to GT 5/6. It also means that BF 4 will have higher requirements than BF 3 by quite a notch on ultra/high settings [not counting MSAA] on PC.

It's not like they can't do destruction,it's possible was just not featured at all.

I'll take 720P and 60 fps over 1080P and 30 fps any day but I think a lot of people were expecting 1080P and 60 fps.

I wish devs would give us different graphics options personally. Like run the game with everything on low but get 1080P and 60 FPS, etc. We can do it on PC and these next gen consoles are practically PCs anyway.
 
I'm amazed that the people who keep shouting all the '60 FPS' nonsense are ok with a game running at 720p. A resolution that low on a large 1080p TV is far more detrimental to the gaming experience than 30FPS.
That's not true at all, fps plays a. Massive massive role in fps, why do you think nearly all are now aiming for it, halo, bf, kz, cod. So you think cod sells because of looks?, no it sells for the gameplay and the fluidity 60 fps brings as it looks bang average.
 
You have to admit that 720p in this day and age doesn't inspire much confidence in the hardware's capabilities.

Let's look at Killzone Shadowfall for a second.......Yep, amazing looking and 1080p/60 for MP. Blame EA more than the HW.

EA/DICE never confirmed 1080p.

Targeting. I know what they said. I'm not as disappointed as others. As I said, as long as we don't go back to the sub 720 days then I'm content on consoles.

1080p needs to be a must though.
 
It's a tad disappointing that it's not full HD but I'm not exactly surprised about it. Like I have said many times, neither of the next gen consoles are spec beasts. Somehow PS4 has just gotten that image because MS decided to go even lower on their machine.

low resolution directly impacts gameplay and your ability to see things in the distance. halo, kz, and cod are much more corridor focused.
 
kinda suspected this, since they always explicitly mentioned 60fps for nextgen, but really never said anything about resolution.

I can understand this. Their early build of PS4 version sounded way behind as it was, cutting resolution was probably the easiest thing to get it running at a constant 60fps.

But really, any decent PC could handle BF3, I expected BF4 to run 1080p on PS4 seeing as the games look similar graphically. My TV is 720p anyway, 720p60 is good for me.

Did the kz shadowfall MP look as good BF4? I haven't really watched the shadowfall videos other than the single player portion which looked really cool, but I think BF4 was one of the best looking games I've seen at E3 especially with the kind of scale it has.
 
I am afraid "platform parity" might be the reason it's 720p on the PS4. All you need to go from 720p to 1080p are more shaders, more ROPS and more bandwidth, all the things where PS4 has 50%-150% more advantage over the Xbone.

I wouldn't be surprised if MS paid them off to not use the extra power of the PS4.
 
Running at 720p negates all of that.

This is ridiculous. If Halo 5 is 720p but features massive battles that the series its known for at 60fps, that's a much more important upgrade.

You're right but let's not pretend that plenty of console people perfectly enjoyed BF3 in the mess that it was on consoles.

I played the 360/PS3 versions and it hurt my eyes to see the IQ.

This looks to be a step up for console folk but I'm still a little disappointed they couldn't deliver 1080p.

From what I've seen it looks as good and runs at a higher clip. Let me be clear that I never said it looks as good as the PC version but for a consoles, it's up there with Infamous as best looking next gen game and we haven't even seen SP.
 
While I was always going to get this for PC and this news doesn't bother me, I couldn't see why DICE couldn't have scaled back the graphics to get it to run at 1080p 60fps. Even with graphics scaled back it would look better than it's main rival, and the "feel of 60 fps" combined with 1080p native would make it seem like a next-gen step up considering how BF3 was like on consoles.

I mean with how well BF3 scaled on PC's, the game still looks great even at medium settings, and the differences between high and ultra are minimal and I doubt much changes with BF4. 720p will make many of the minor graphical improvements meaningless anyway.
 
Given we've seen 720p games and 30 FPS games, I wonder how long before we land on a game that's both 720p and 30 FPS.

The division is an MMO and a game with a ton going on both visually and otherwise so perhaps.

It doesn't effect distance to any meaningful effect, your acting like its sd. Ask people what they want in a fps a few more lines of res or 60 fps feel to the combat, I'd guess a pretty hi percentage will pick 60 fps.
 
How is expecting 1080@60 in 2013 is having high standards?
Especially after we've seen stuff like TLOU running fine on old garbage hardware?

Please tell me it's just lazy devs.
 
It's a full 60fps though isn't it? For online play, or no?
BF3 is a graphical monster of a game, I can only assume 4 is the same.
 
BF3 @ 720p on the ps3 is a bit rough given how detailed that game is. It really makes trying to pick someone off with an assault rifle incredibly difficult. This doesnt bode well for BF4 : /
 
I don't see why not , yeah these consoles not high end but they have enough power to go over 720p.
Also devs can do what ever they want but i won't be buying any game that at 720p in 2013 .
Are you a developer? Ever got your hands on the new machines? If not, I'm not sure you're in a position to be saying what they should and should not be capable of.

If you want to skip on BF4(which will likely be amazing) because of this, go ahead, but I have a feeling you're going to end up disappointed quite often this generation. Perhaps this should be a wake-up call to remind you that

a) These are not super high end machines.

b) Resolution isn't everything.

It should still be about having fun first and foremost.
 
For people attempting to justify this with map size and player count - MAG had huge maps, 256 players and was rendered at 720p with 2xMSAA. On a PS3.,

It's not as if all 256 were interacting properly at the same time though, and it's not the same level of graphical fidelity as BF.

He's talking about gaming experience. Higher resolution means you spot enemies more early. Better image quality only supports that.
