Battlefield 6 Beta |OT| Open Beta/Closed Weapons.

Am I the only one who doesn't dig the look of Pax Armata?
It's not really a complaint, more of a nitpick but I don't think they look cool.
US equipment looks cool and familiar, Pax Armata just looks strange and mid to me.
Also, another nitpick but since both sides are supposed to be coalitions of several different countries it'd be cool if not every soldier spoke perfect American english, I want to hear some accents, perhaps cursing in other languages as well to portray the adrenaline and panic the soldiers are going through.

Weapon Recoil in Open Beta

Early Access and Open Beta use the same build as the Multiplayer Reveal Event, and we want to acknowledge that we're aware of some of the feedback around weapon recoil patterns. While not present within the Open Beta, a series of balance passes have already taken place around Weapon Recoil; however, they were not able to be included in the Open Beta build in time.
The team is consistently paying attention to feedback around all things weapons, and we'll continue to keep players updated at a later point about more details specific to weapon balancing and gameplay.

Nice

Awesome.

My understanding is that of the 9 maps announced:

2 are infantry only (Empire State, Saints Quarter)
2 are very tight / limited vehicles (Manhattan Bridge, Siege of Cairo)
1 maybe tight / limited vehicles (Iberian Offensive)
1 is open but very small (Liberation Peak)
3 might be decently sized (Mirak Valley, New Sobek City, Operation Firestorm)

So 2/3rd infantry focused, and 1/3rd mixed.

Unless the player base cries hard about wanting open large maps I doubt they're going to change up and this leaves me significantly worried. There is already a clear lean toward smaller chaotic maps and that isn't surprising to me in the slightest given the trends we've seen in the shooter space. People love their ADHD slop-fest style kill boxes where they can just camp a hallway and chuck 300 grenades at each other while somehow pretending that is high skill gameplay. We learned this with 24/7 64p Operation Metro servers. We learned this with Shipment in COD 4.

If we want change I think we need to bitch about the lack of large scale maps constantly. It's the only way devs seem to listen or take feedback.
This is still fairly close to BF3's map spread. BF3 had a few base maps that were pretty tight for vehicles (Tehran highway, bazaar), a few infantry maps (Sciene Crossing, Metro), and some wide open big maps (Border, Kharg Island, Firestorm).

To be honest, so far this games map design gives me heavy BF3 vibes, in that the maps are fairly small/chokehold-y, even the ones that are designed to be more open have pretty narrow paths. BF4 maps were way bigger and I loved them but I'm fine with the maps we currently have, I'm sure down the line there will be much bigger maps added.

The funny thing is too is that I think a lot of people didn't get to play BF3 on PC so they never truly experienced some of the base maps with 64 players. A lot of that game's base maps also felt cramped save for the few big ones. I also distinctly remember 3 getting a lot of flack back in the day for how fast-paced and CoD like it is. History just repeats itself lol

I think if it was a spread of say 4 infantry focused maps with vehicles, and then 4 traditional sized maps I could get behind that. It just doesn't feel anywhere near that though. It looks like New Sobek City and Mirak Valley might be the only NEW open maps in a battlefield style and even then we haven't seen them. Operation Firestorm is cool but it's a remake. To have only 2 new large battlefield style maps at launch is deeply disappointing.

With Battlefield 3 at launch we had 5 large maps (Caspian Border, Operation Firestorm, Damavand Peak, Kharg Island, and Noshahr Canals), 4 small maps (Grand Bazaar, Tehran Highway, Operation Metro, and Seine Crossing). DLC gave us both more close quarters maps and some of the largest maps in the series with armored kill. BF3 always maintained a fair balance.

The skip revive should have a delay, it goes waaay too fast considering you can begin pressing space almost before you hit the ground.
Sometimes a dude dies right in front of me, I'm on my way to revive and he already skipped, it's an absurd waste of points...

I would not call Noshar Canals or Damavand Peak "large" maps at all. Peak in particular is just a straight narrow line with an extremely tight choke point tunnel in the middle. Noshar Canals is kind of small as hell for infantry.

Again, most of BF3's maps felt fairly small for 64 players.

They're not super large and I could probably agree to classify them as medium size maps. My argument would mostly be that Damavand and Noshar are still significantly larger than most of the BF 6 maps, even for as small as they are. They're both larger than the 64 player version of Liberation Peak

Same.

One thing I have to point out is that in Breakthrough on that mountain map, the attacker spawn is absolutely horrible.
What a disaster of a map design in that particular area.
Haven't played Breakthrough in that map but for conquest it's the only decent map in this Beta. The more I play conquest in Cairo and Gibraltar the less I like those maps.

The game runs perfectly on my RTX 3090 at native 4K max settings
However, after playing the beta I think I much prefer COD these days. I'll play the beta some more tonight out of curiosity but I don't think I'm going back to BF.

They're going after the Call of Duty crowd with this beta and the map selection reflects it.

We know that there are bigger maps in the game because they've shown them all. You're going to have to give them money to play them.

It's really just the inital attacker spawn that I'm complaining about.
Once you move past that section, it's better.

maybe I don't understand something but isn't open beta starting in 2 days ?
hour ago I just opened the beta on PS5 and tried to play it and I got in. didn't pre-order. don't have early access. so how am I playing it ?

But I got BF4 here, it's a better game, got an actual shit load of legendary maps and... I already own it... You can also have it all for like... negative Dollars..

How's Pro performance and IQ?

Balanced mode has good image quality. I don't know what its frame rate is but I would guess that it's mostly running at 60fps in this mode.

Performance mode has significantly worse image quality than Balanced. I doubt it's running higher than 1080p internal resolution. It might even be lower or maybe its dynamic internal resolution up to 1080p. I don't know if it's upscaling to a higher resolution. I'd presume it is because that's the norm these days. But the performance is good in this mode. In the two urban maps it runs mostly between 80-100fps and sometimes over 100fps. Only very occasionally did I see it go under 80fps.

On the snow map my fps counter recorded it mostly running at 100-120fps in Performance mode, but the match I used to look at the fps counter was a match where my team was destroying the other team so it wasn't typical gameplay you would see on that map since the other team was kinda locked to one side of the map around their base. Still though, I think even in a typical match on the snow map the fps would be good.

I have see some screen tearing in Performance mode every now and then, but it's not frequent.

I don't know if either mode is using PSSR. I would guess that Performance mode is not, but Balanced mode may well be using it since the image quality is good. But we'll have to wait for someone like Digital Foundry to confirm it.

It's early access! You can watch any streamer playing the game. then after a while you receive code! So you can play early.

Yeh fr I was exclusively 32player on cq large maps in bf3 and 4. Felt like a better game with the tighter player count and map sizes. 64 player never felt great to me.

Nah, think I'll bitch like everyone else is bitching. This toxic positivity bullshit is why we get these bad games and studios end up closing down.
Maybe most are just enjoying the game? Unbelievable i know.

Plenty of folk have gripes myself included.

By your own admission you played a couple of minutes and uninstalled, if you played at all. So you "opinion" is ill informed at best.

Toxic indeed.

Man this game is fun as hell. Only really messed around with assault and engineer for 3 games but man it is chaotic in a good way. Having good teamwork is awesome and really pays off ingame as well as fun factor, compared to CoD where you can just do your own thing most of the time.

Does anyone else have this odd bug where, when a round ends, it returns to the splash screen and it loads forever? I've had to constantly relaunch the game, it's really annoying.

It's back to its roots, thank god.

Only played a couple of games on Cairo and the other close quaters map, its great, sounds great, feels great and looks great, property BF4 vibes.

This has been my biggest issue. I played a round of breakthrough and a round of conquest over my lunch break. My LMG was outshooting snipers at 200 meters without using a bipod. Glad this will be fixed.

Otherwise, maps are waaaaay too small.

Also, if you guys haven't, turn on the crouch sprint in the settings. IDK why that would be off by default lmao. Thank fuck it's back from BFV.

Feels like playing COD TDM on Conquest Cairo. I hate it.

People are also retarded... you get downed and they just run past you. Not even attempting a revive. Literal COD behavior.

The open map is great, though. I love it. It sucks that I have only had the map come up once for me? Then the game crashed and it was 4 games of Cairo which actually made me hate the game right now. I just can't with this shit 64 players in a city bullshit.

Performance on my PC (7700X, 4070ti Super) is flawless. Ultra preset (so no SSGI) at 3440x1440 native and it pretty much locks to 60.

Will hopefully play more of that snow map tomorrow.

Only played some Domination and getting in some good games.

Shotgun absolutely deletes people like it should even at short to mid range. Hopefully its not too tuned down come release.

I have played, it fucking sucked. Hope you're okay if my opinion does not track with yours, your thread does not mean your opinion only, I like knowing I'm potentially helping save people money. Wish someone told me not to buy 2042 at the time, but guys like you drowned them out.

EA are probably one of the most morally corrupt companies in all of entertainment, you're not as hot shit as you think you are defending any of their products.

The site has an ignore function if it trips you up, I won't use it, but it's there if you need to seal the old chamber nice and air tight.

Hope you guys enjoy this and get into it, I'm just sad, it could have been much more, I had to uninstall after a few minutes because it's just all too disappointing and sad to me. Thankfully I didnt spend money this time so it's kind of fun just vibing with the hype with zero vested interest.
I can't take you seriously. Have a good one.

Have played a lot today and while its fun I am asking myself if it finds a spot in my rotation of games?

Not 100% sure honestly.

For me Portal will make or break it

If its like Fortnite Creative and lets people go crazy it could be amazing

if you are using 21:9, it is a must to increase FOV to ~110!

I hate the default view.

I know why Cairo map is boring, just one tank, no high spots for sniper, no verticality, very un-BF.

I think BF6 is one game that uses up all your CPU cores, lol. Getting ~140fps average on my 144hz montior on 5090 1440p.

He's right though. It's not about defending some corp no one gives a shit about or likes. I completely get what you mean about toxic positivity in fandoms and starry eyed fanboys defending trash entries with their lives. I've been on the receiving end of that any time I've voiced criticism of any game before launch, and it's a huge peeve of mine.

This isn't that. How could you have an informed opinion on the game after minutes of gameplay? You don't see anything wrong with that? Did you learn the ins and outs of the maps? Did you test vehicle or heli controls/balance? What about weapon balance? Your criticism doesn't go past "it fucking sucked".

I go on the BF subreddit, and the top posts are all people giving constructive criticism on recoil, map size, heli controls, and more. It's not like the fanbase is adverse to that.
