Battlefield 6 Beta |OT| Open Beta/Closed Weapons.

Quick impressions after 3 or so hours.

Looks good and runs well. Bodes well for release. (PC, 5080 mobile)

Guns need more recoil. Need to try some more but once you start adding attachments they become lasers. .

Maps are small to medium. Not very Battlefield but still play well. Not worried as they have at least 2 big ones in for launch then I'm presuming more from that leak coming shortly after launch. will be a complete non issue a few months in.

Classes need some work. Assault seems OP

Shit needs a good few balance patches.

Overall very positive for a Beta and my thoughts may change over the weekend as I only scratched the surface. I guessing a few will moan that they turned it into COD. As a returning Battlefield and long time COD player, I don't think it plays much like COD at all.
At least the game is more complete than 2042 was at launch, they had to actually finish that game (didn't) instead of properly refining it, lol

Hopefully that gives the studio time and space to actually make big and necessary changes.

I'll be playing this when it hits ea play, think it will be nice after a few months of patching and maps not designed by random executives girlfriends.

To me it plays like a modern BFV, which is awesome. Guns need more recoil i agree and more big maps. Foundation is fantastic, game is pretty polished and beta is smooth sailing so far

Yep can't wait to have a decent session on it later. The stuff I listed is only minor gripes.

EDIT: Got a code through twitch

Teamplay is very weak so far, only buffoons running around, not reviving, not reparing tanks, nothing...
Tried Breakthrough and Closed weapons conquest and it's always one team curb stomping the other.

Last game I ended up 3rd with 6 kills and I joined it when it was halfway finished already...
Lmfao beta just started man. Let noobs get past the learning curve. BF has been gone for a while (no one played 2042 and it underperformed, BFV had low sales) and there's a whole new generation of gamers that have to catch up on the gameplay loop. We just need to push the PTFO memes from back in the day and they'll get it.

BF5 also had this issue.
BFV had some of the best recoil patterns in the series. Actually random/variable, and some guns kicked like crazy. I remember that was one of the biggest selling points of the game back before launch. That, fortifications, the crouch sprinting were literally the only things I wanted to persist from that game. Are you talking about 2042?

I can't even redeem the code on the website because it's crashing

"upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. retried and the latest reset reason: connection failure, transport failure reason: TLS error: 33554536:system library:OPENSSL_internal:Connection reset by peer"

edit: finally got it!

To the people complaining about the maps...
Remember BF3's only beta map for a brief period was fucking Operation Metro.

I have faith that the base game will have far more variety in verticality. As someone whose last beloved BF was 4 (1 was good but V and 2042 were fucking awful imo), this game actually feels good. It actually feels like DICE got its shit pushed in to finally make something on the level of BF4 again. I'm genuinely excited to go home after work and play this, which is a feeling I haven't experienced in years for any game.

Just please put a goddamn server browser in as well for base game stuff DICE. That's it.

I'm picturing you with a half drank bottle of whiskey in one hand driving home, cigarette in your mouth, slamming on the steering wheel, sweating, "Just give me a fucking win just ONCE God fucking Damn It, wife took the kids, the dogs, I NEED this EA product to SELL, PLEASE GOD!"

Played 1 round and so far I'm liking it but I'm a bit rusty. I haven't played any multiplayer FPS in months. Last one I played was BF2042 in fact.

I'm not sure if I like having to press X for my gadget or whatever.

Watched the 30 minutes and it did not spit out a code, i'm assuming cause i already got one previously?

Ok so i definitely need to adjust to this i havent played BF in a while and i feel like the TTK is near instant... while at the same time i am unloading full clips into people and they just laugh at me and kill me with one bullet. Previous match i literally unloaded 4 shotgun blasts into someone maybe 10 feet in front of me and they turned around jumped and killed me in one shot. Like wtf is with this inconsistency... kinda driving me crazy. Tanks feel great so far. Weapons feel good it just seems like there is some sort of hit registration thing goin on kinda driving me crazy.

No, it's a bit slow. I think they're just backed up. I got my code at around an hour. Just let it run until you get a notification.

Yeah but this beta has 4 maps and 3 of them are really small. If these 3 are the only small maps then its okay, but it was still a bad decision not including atleast 1 big map in the beta

What's the game doing on your series x? I'm having zero issues on mine, though I put it in performance mode so maybe that's why?
Really? That's a shame. I was gonna play PC today and tomorrow but wanted to try it on XSX on the weekend.
PS5 Pro is smooth, but , it did crash once, their was some weird graphical flickering that resolved itself, fans not going crazy.
Nevermind. I didn't have my console set to 120 hz mode.

It's all good now smooth as butter

Yeah, this isn't a Battlefield 6 issue or even a Battlefield in general issue. It's simply a player base issue.

It's annoying, but it is what it is.
Just make that a revive count +1 in K/D

You will start to see maniacs running around reviving even enemies

easy straightforward solution

Yuuuup. It's annoying to veterans that have played the series a LONG time, but then you also expect that behavior, so it's whatever. I bought 1942 at launch and by the time Vietnam came out I was already expecting certain behavior from new players, lol.

I still get annoyed by folks that are horribly anal about their K/D in a BF game where sometimes you just need to throw yourself on points to help capture them, lol.

Where's the destruction?

Where the verticality?

Siege of Cairo sucks!
....It's everywhere? I mean, the game is almost too chaotic at times with all the explosions and debris, but it's awesome IMO, lol.

Verticality will exist more in some maps than others I'm sure, just like it always has. There's only a few maps in the beta, but more will of course come in the full version. All having their different scaled versions.
  • Siege of Cairo (playable in Beta)
  • Iberian Offensive (playable in Beta)
  • Liberation Peak (playable in Beta)
  • Empire State (NOT playable in Beta)
  • Manhattan Bridge (NOT playable in Beta)
  • Saints Quarter (NOT playable in Beta)
  • New Sobek City (NOT playable in Beta)
  • Kundara Valley (NOT playable in Beta)
  • Operation Firestorm (NOT playable in Beta)

I've played it a bit more now and I like it better. The sound is really good and I also like that there's so much cover everywhere. However, sometimes the enemies are almost impossible to see.

I played about 5 hours so far and I'm really impressed by the performance on both platforms (PS5 Pro/PC).

On PC the lowest I've seen was high 70s but 99% of the time was between like 90-115 (4070S/5600x Max Settings @ 4K with DLSS B). Frame Gen put it anywhere from 140-160.

On PS5 Pro I've only used the performance mode and it sat weirdly enough around where my PC was sitting (high 90s-120) according to the build in counter on my AW2725Q.

It's the COD mentality. Nobody cares about anything but their K/D nowadays. BF is the game where you can have a negative K/D but be higher on the scoreboard then somebody with a 10:1 because you play the objective and do stuff like revives/supplying/spotting and this is how it should be.

I think the sound is really underrated. Battlefield has always had amazing sound but so far in the beta the positional audio has been amazing. I can track people really well.

It's a breath of fresh air compared to most modern shooters where the audio is completely broken. I'm looking at you COD and Tarkov.

I guess I'm just old and my tastes have changed. Maybe I'm just looking back on 1942-bf2 through rose tinted glasses, but the pace just felt more comfortable. BF6 just has too much going on at all times. There is not flow to a battle, there is always someone spawning in unknowable locations. Revives don't seem to matter, still. I want a AAA version of a hybrid between BF and ARMA. This just ain't it for me.

Beautiful, well performing game though. It will probably play well to the streaming, sweaty FPS loving crowd.

My understanding is that of the 9 maps announced:

2 are infantry only (Empire State, Saints Quarter)
2 are very tight / limited vehicles (Manhattan Bridge, Siege of Cairo)
1 maybe tight / limited vehicles (Iberian Offensive)
1 is open but very small (Liberation Peak)
3 might be decently sized (Mirak Valley, New Sobek City, Operation Firestorm)

So 2/3rd infantry focused, and 1/3rd mixed.

Unless the player base cries hard about wanting open large maps I doubt they're going to change up and this leaves me significantly worried. There is already a clear lean toward smaller chaotic maps and that isn't surprising to me in the slightest given the trends we've seen in the shooter space. People love their ADHD slop-fest style kill boxes where they can just camp a hallway and chuck 300 grenades at each other while somehow pretending that is high skill gameplay. We learned this with 24/7 64p Operation Metro servers. We learned this with Shipment in COD 4.

If we want change I think we need to bitch about the lack of large scale maps constantly. It's the only way devs seem to listen or take feedback.
