Battlefield 6 Beta |OT| Open Beta/Closed Weapons.

The infantry combat is better, but the maps are waaaaaaay too small, it does not feel like Battlefield.

You cannot even breathe for a second without an enemy being right on top of you. Battlefield maps in BF3/BF4 used to have a lot of negative space around them so you'd not constantly see enemies every second unless you went to a busy area of the map. These maps force you to be on your toes 24/7 similar to call of duty.

Whats worse is Battlefield always had an element of strategy about it, but the maps are too small to really do any real strategy. It always feels like your only option is to run directly at the enemy via one of the map lanes."

So far? I LOVE IT. Playing on PC for now. Getting at least 90FPS via RTX 4090 and 7800X3D. Matchmaking has been SUPER smooth. Had one hiccup when I couldn't leave the lobby while trying to find a match. Playing on PC with a controller played MUCH better than I thought too. I'll try the PS5 version later on. I have only tried Domination so far. Some of the corridors are pretty small in one of the maps.

DAY 1.

Yes, this game will be dead in months, the bad is 2042 tier bad, sucks but what can you do.

Feels like they took shit that was meant for Portal in 2042 and just slapped a new product together, very little thought above that was put into things, this is another pump and dump by people with zero business being anywhere near this franchise.

The shilling will be loud and practically nonsensical, EA play extremely dirty when it comes to marketing.

Am i on steam forums now?

This is 2042 all over again, this rules.

Watching on Twitch right now trying to get a code for my brother that plays COD with me all the time... for some reason i'm not seeing the usual drops watch completion bar on the twitch page so not sure if it's even working or not? Or if i'm getting credit towards the soldier/weapon/tank skins? Hmmm

Man this thread is hilarious. People outing themselves as old man boomers. Not knowing how to link accounts, whining that you got a watch a twitch stream while not understanding basic marketing. Lmao

Looking forward to playing this later today

I got my Battlefield fix for the day. It actually gave me more of an old-school BF vibe. Not too much fast movement, recoil felt just right. Some maps were a bit chaotic, sure — but I liked that. Ttk felt good too. I got better performance than I expected with a 3060 Ti and 9700K, though it did push my system a bit more compared to BF2042. Can't say it was a fully smooth experience, but it didn't ruin the fun.

The beta phase is so long though — not sure if I'll still have the hype to actually buy it by the time it's out. Thanks, EA:messenger_grinning_sweat:

I'm a 2042 apologist (for context the game is a far cry from BF greats but the game improved a ton over the years and is fun. It's also one of the few modern games that scratch the BF itch) but this game feels nothing like 2042 IMO. 2042 maps are meh but if you get Orbital/Reclaimed or the classic maps (Arica Harbour, Valparaiso, Noshar Canals, Caspian Border) it's great fun.

I think the game feels like BF3/4 on maps more the size of BC2.

Maybe I've become a boomer before age 40. I just don't feel like giving EA access to seeing what I watch on Twitch. They wouldn't want the data unless they profited in some way. I'm sure it would be just fine but I try to protect my data more these days from companies...
If I don't get early access then I'll play the open beta this weekend, not a big deal

Honestly, even 2042 had its moments, wasn't all bad, wasn't worth $60 but it wasn't a total disaster to me.

Hope you guys enjoy this and get into it, I'm just sad, it could have been much more, I had to uninstall after a few minutes because it's just all too disappointing and sad to me. Thankfully I didnt spend money this time so it's kind of fun just vibing with the hype with zero vested interest.

I will say though if Vince Zampella gave a shit about people's jobs he'd get rid of this small map shit urgently and do something about it quick and drastic, map quality was a weak point in 2042 and they're evidently dangerously weak here. This ain't cod, bra, you need BF maps or shit is going to go badly for EA.

I can forgive DICE for losing the Frostbite coding talent able to make suppression work in BF but bad and dumb map design isn't acceptable. Don't let your girlfriend design maps, Vince, you're going to put these Swedes on the streets, duder.

I'll never get it, lol. I mean, the whole twitch/streamer marketing has been standard for over a decade at this point. If you're surprised by this you need more vitamins, lmao.

it's not about the money, rather the principle... of course I wasn't watching, was just a tab running on mute in the background. got it anyway
Yeah I don't get when folks complaint about drops. Just mute the tab and drop acquired, haha. It's better than having to preorder or some other silly means.

Been playing domination. The amount of people who arent reviving is crazy!!

Im gonna try the other game modes this evening but I can say that they deffo got a great game on their hands with this. Everything is just fundamentally good.

Lots of new people afraid to die for the objective instead of ptfo. Damn I love it

Definitely one of the biggest issues I've noticed. Also tank drivers rolling away when I'm repairing. LET ME HELP YOU!

so far, quite good... maps a bit tighter than old school BF3 and BF4.
sniper rifle is fucking sweet and it seems the bullet speed is much better, less lead necessary, was throwing me off the first match, but basically you just reset your brain and cut the lead target in half. also finally usable without having to hold breath with minimal aim penalty
the body shots at close range should definitely be instant kill, but anyway...

performance is smooth, all maxed out, but yeah running on a 4090 7800x3d

Teamplay is very weak so far, only buffoons running around, not reviving, not reparing tanks, nothing...
Tried Breakthrough and Closed weapons conquest and it's always one team curb stomping the other.

Last game I ended up 3rd with 6 kills and I joined it when it was halfway finished already...

This is annoying as hell but it's been an issue for a long time.

Also revives. IMO if you aren't going to revive don't fucking play support/medic. This was a huge issue in 2042 as Falck had a med pistol so people used her just so they could heal in combat.

Going to be fun watching people slowly realize how infuriatingly bad this shit is and then get angry they spent all that money.

Team balancing probably needs a little work, but in order to do that they need stats. Greenhorns will outnumber veterans by quite a lot.

At least there's no skill based matchmaking. I was running around the enemy teams spawn earlier with just a knife and managed to kill 3 of them whilst they just stared at me. London simulator.

I was bitching about 30min twitch stream but I found myself watching it(running it in background) for shitty skins I will never use. Idk why I'm doing it but I won't stop until I claim all of it.

Probably someone already claimed it but this code still looks redeemable in my rewards. I don't want to try it.

Downloaded this on PS5, but cant actually play it? :messenger_hushed: I thought this was an OPEN beta? :messenger_neutral: Says I need Early Access? Why the fuck did you let me download something if i cant play it without early access? cowards

I was excited for this but once again it's not Battlefield, at least not the maps in this beta. The maps are tiny and you can't go on rooftops. Almost no verticality at all really (Are there even parachutes?) ; they feel very multi-lane CoD-like. We are light-years from the amazing maps of BF4. Very limited vehicles but with the tiny maps I guess it makes sense. I mean other than small houses/2-story apartments, there are no big explorable structures in these maps. Even 2042 had way better maps than this, and they were not good.

Once again is doesn't seem like this game will have any "Only in Battlefield" moments. Is there even gonna be water and boats in this fucking game?

Compared to a map like Siege of Shanghai where you have high rises with elevators, a mall, city streets with underground subway access, multi story parking structures, water with tons of actual combat vehicles (tanks, APCs with canons, boats, jetskis, helicopters. It's on another level completely.

All the maps were fucking epic in BF4 with amazing complex structures and underground passageways.

The trailers were just nothing but real gameplay with the UI cause it was just that amazing that they didn't need to dress it all up. I'll wait to see other maps but the ones so far are not good at all.

For me the performance is solid. Guns feel on the easy side to use compared to older BFs, granted I haven't played them in a while. Sound and destruction are nice. The dragging revive similar to Battlebit is a nice addition. I'm really not digging the maps. I never played 2042 but I remember one of the chief complaints being there was way, way too much negative space. This feels like an over-correction. These maps are damn small. Metro players will like it, but anyone who liked flanking squads and objectives with a jeep in 3 and 4 like I did sure won't. It's just constant chaos rather than ebbs and flows of chaos and downtime like in 3 and 4. Unsure if it's just the maps they picked for the demo or if it's indicative of the whole game's map design

Im hoping it's the former, they generally have good destruction to show of, and they want action. But my opinion may change later.

I do agree they feel very cod like at times, and the flank points are usually wide open which is frustrating for anyone who likes that satisfaction of coming in from the side and smashing a held point

THAT game was made by the Arc Raiders people, maybe that's the problem here.

Vince turning BF into a giant braindead shipment map is the funniest and best outcome though. I'm sure his Activision check is in the mail. What a trooper.

Yup, a story as old as time in the Battlefield universe, lmao.

Much like a single person going to a multi person vehicle and driving off, lol.

Quick impressions after 3 or so hours.

Looks good and runs well. Bodes well for release. (PC, 5080 mobile)

Guns need more recoil. Need to try some more but once you start adding attachments they become lasers. .

Maps are small to medium. Not very Battlefield but still play well. Not worried as they have at least 2 big ones in for launch then I'm presuming more from that leak coming shortly after launch. will be a complete non issue a few months in.

Classes need some work. Assault seems OP

Shit needs a good few balance patches.

Overall very positive for a Beta and my thoughts may change over the weekend as I only scratched the surface. I guessing a few will moan that they turned it into COD. As a returning Battlefield and long time COD player, I don't think it plays much like COD at all.

My most recent BF game has been V. I don't know what they have done with this and possibly 2042, but the gun play feels very, uhh, two dimensional? And not in a good way. Feels like some Chinese free to play Call of Duty clone. Somehow the guns feel like they are shooting lasers instead of actual physical bullets.

But aside from that, the movement feels pretty good and physical. And heavy.
