so last night i was bored as hell. i started searching ebay for stuff and happend upon some sweet ass NYC subway models. Looking further i found the manufacturer of the trains and holy shit these guys are AWESOME! company called Mikes Train House or "MTH railking" has found a fan for LIFE. If you are into model trains or just NYC crap in general MTH has a shitload of highly detailed model subway cars. Kinda pricey i guess but i still am in awe of the quality and detail. Mikes deals in "O" scale and i've always bought HO but i'll never go back. I'm now gonna search out a set every month until i have a full damn NYC subway line! If you're interested in model trains at all visit http://www.mth-railking.com

check these babies out!

Honestly, I can't think of anything more boring than collecting model trains but I guess we all each have our own quirks.....

When I'm bored I just go to the train station and pretend I'm the "master conducter", orchastrating the 1 and 9 train with balletic harmony in tune with MTA time tables. I imagine my army of hobo MTA residentials cheering me on as I do this.

And hey, it's $498 cheaper then your hobby.

LOL! Good to know I'm not the only black person who digs on model trains. I don't have a train set anymore, but I loved them when I was a teen. I had HO scale which all inevitably got destroyed by my sisters who'd get mad at me and then just trample the tracks and cars and fuck everything up. I've always wanted to build a full setup on like a 4'x6' piece of wood, but I no longer have the space for it. I was gonna build an N-scale setup b/c N-scales are small enough yet still detailed enough that you could due a big and complex layout without sacrificing too much. I know a lot of people prefer O and HO scale, but you need a legit basement or attic to set those up properly. Anyway, this thread is easily grounds for ridicule, but you won't get any from me. ;) I'm a train afficianado, and I hope you can follow through on it and build a nice scale setup and post some pics in the future. I still remember when KB Toys sold real model train stuff, and not tinker toy shit either. Since they stopped carrying the stuff, I gave up on it, so I never got it done. :( PEACE.

Hey, at least you aren't as sad as those stupid idiots that spend hundreds of dollars on silly 'video' games. They really do spend loads just to run around pretending to be soldiers or something.........hey wait a minute!

Anyway, I hate model trains. Mostly because when I was little I had a great scalextric slot car set, and my dad traded it for a train set because he thought I'd like it (or he wanted it). :(

:lol i've been thinking that same thing this whole time. you have all of us who play videogames, those who do that god forsaken cos play and those who'd give their left nut for anything star wars. I'd say this is a hobby more linked to my childhood growing up back in brooklyn than anything. nostalgia baby. I cant just up and fly to NYC every weekend and ride the subways so this gives me a little something. :) also i've been checking out ebay more and more and MTH trains are *hot* as in value holding collectable hot.

isnt it odd that KB and TRU have shit trainsets now if at all? last time i went to toys r us they had NONE. its amazing how times have changed. crazy enough its more the fact that kids spend more time with our other past time, videogames. shit like legos and model trains give a child more ability to use their imagination and creativity IMO.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
Model trains are a great hobby.

What scale do you prefer? I was always partial to H.O. scale, but mainly cause it seemed similar to hot wheels scale.
- oh, guess you've been converted to O now?

Big ass lionel trains are cool too.

Seriously, my dad was a civil engineer, and he probably sunk a couple thousand into his S-Gauge trains (do they even make those anymore?) He had a huge setup in our basement backroom that he designed, and he used to work out things like the max grade he could build the hills and stuff. It was all very fascinating, and it was the sort of stuff people like us would almost certainly be really into if we were born 50 years earlier.

O for sure now. Theres no comparison. Theres just so much more detail that fits into the larger size. ofcourse i'll now need a larger layout too. HO looks like micromachines compared to O. :lol Lionel is O scale as well.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Do they have the old MTA trains that were used on the B, C lines w/ the slanted front?

From what i'm seeing though, MTH seems to do a new set every 3 months. Shouldnt be too far off as long as the demand is there. I'll wait for their version.

Kick ass, I used to have a shitload of good quality modeltrains too, until some motherfucker stole 'em out of my basement (along with some damn fine bottles of wine).

Anyhow, congrats with this new hobby, it's really rewarding building some bad-ass scenery and seeing your trains drive through it.
