I could deal with this if they make it all black. Which I don't really think they will do, then PS6 won't be differentiated from 5 by being black.
Why would they make it all black when they know there are a lot of us who will pay them for black plates

Plus they will make it just different enough we need all new black plates for when we trade in our OG PS5s :)

I thought of mentioning plates but I really think it's mainly about making gens easy to tell apart in a world of plastic boxes. They want someone to be able to tell its the new gen on sight without squinting or reading anything. Which is why PS5 wasn't another black box but 6 could be.

I don't really care that much about the color but the oreo router thing is just really bad. It's good branding though which in the end matters more I guess.

Personally this sounds great, I would prefer digital only for myself. Would be nice if they gave options for others.

Even if the PS5 Pro launched with a 1TB drive, the increase in performance alone suggests higher than 100 dollar price increase. You have no sense of inflation. This isn't 2016.

Inflation is not a new thing that started post 2016.
The more powerful performance is precisely the reason for the $100 leap.

Even with declining sales, they're largely on pace to hit their goals, especially with Wukong pushing units in China.

Their goals were made well before anyone knew Wukong would be a significant hit. All based on the regular PS5 console.

Yeah, Microsoft increased their price to 600 dollars just for more storage, yet people here think Sony is going to upgrade the internals for the same. At that rate, they could have done the same as Microsoft and saved themselves the trouble. It's not going to be 600.

The 2TB Xbox will be a relatively niche version. And the major cost item there is the extra 1TB SSD.
The PS5 Pro will keep the same 1TB SSD as the Slim, while upgrading the internals.

In one, the cost increase is hinged on the SSD. In the other, the cost increase is based on updated RAM (which probably costs the same as on the base console) and the more powerful SoC.
Of course a 2TB PS5 Pro would cost more than the 2TB Series X.

People will buy the Pro for 700 if the performance is there and Sony knows exactly how many people have upgraded the storage on their PS5, which is probably the vast majority of PS5 owners or at least a plurality.

It is very unlikely that up to 30% of PS5 owners have upgraded their PS5 storage, and I fail to see what user upgraded storage has to do with the launch price of the PS5 Pro. You’ve hamstrung yourself in this discussion by imagining a 2TB Pro console that isn’t happening.

If they sell it at $700, most people won’t buy it. It’s as simple as that.

This coming from the same type of people who told me I was crazy when I said the PS5 Slim would get a price increase rather than a price decrease and then the digital model went up 50 dollars.

They seized on their modular design to hike prices for the digital slim, but the disc models are still the bigger sellers and that model got zero price increase.

In fact, most of the Slim’s launch window had the console sold either discounted, or bundled with Spiderman 2 or Call of Duty.

What difference does it make if the detachable drive is pre-installed or not?

The drive is $100 anyway. They won't discount it with a bundle

Global inflation is the highest it has been in over 30 years... The United States out of all industrialized nations has handled inflation the best and we still see significant price increases.

The idea that this wasn't going to impact gaming is mindless.

Their goals were made well before anyone knew Wukong would be a significant hit. All based on the regular PS5 console.

They didn't know Wukong would be a significant hit and they didn't know helldivers 2 would be a significant hit. They also didn't know how well College Football 2025 would do. They also didn't know Concord would be a flop.

That's why it is called a forecast. Their forecast was based on how many base PS5s they thought they would sell and how many PS5 Pros.

The idea that only 1 million pros would sell in the 4 months it will be on the market within this forecast is hilarious. 250k per month across the globe?

What are you going to say when the PS5 Pro is announced with 2GB of storage?

Do you think the upgraded internals have the equivalent cost to an extra gig of storage?

In one, the cost increase is hinged on the SSD. In the other, the cost increase is based on updated RAM (which probably costs the same as on the base console) and the more powerful SoC.

You factor in the user upgraded cost and build that into the base price. It's pretty simple. The type of people who are going to buy a PS5 Pro are EXACTLY the people who are likely to buy more storage. Rather than eschew those revenue to other companies, they'll capture that revenue for themselves.

You've hamstrung yourself in denying that it's likely to have 2TB despite the devkit having 2TB. Can you explain why they would increase the size of the storage on the devkit but not the retail model?

We've seen a massive increase in sales ratio towards the digital since the slim was released. The key here is that people thought it wasn't going to happen. In fact people thought there would be a price decrease.

People have tried to warn about digital growing. We all knew in advance they were working on a detachable disc drive. If it's not all digital this system, it will likely be soon enough. They're definitely going to want to nudge you in that direction.

Look at the current price PS5 Slim disc and DE and the separate disc drive....the disc version is basically a DE disc drive bundle.

Yeah, they already released a console with it. This is nothing new.

wonder how much this will be priced in my country, the slim goes for 650~660 usd here now. probably 800-900 over here.

Very likely $599.99 MSRP

Physical Media will be sadly dead within a couple years unless production becomes extremely profitable.

$499 is not happening, SIE increased prices in Japan, which means that a price cut anywhere is not being considered; and you wouldn't have the digital version being only $50 more expensive than the digital Slim model, that was absolutely not the case with PS4 Pro in the past.
IMO, $549 for digital only, $599 with disc drive.
Still in the $499-$599 range. And this whole raised prices in japan, why are we not mentioning the fact that that was because of the yen to the dollar issues they have been having this year. Dollar-wise, the cost of the PS5 in Japan is still technically... the same.

Pricing this at 500 dollars would mean having to drop the price of the base PS5s.
No. Its like people forget that the base PS5 is and already costs as low as $399. A PS5 without a disc drive costs $449 on Amazon, Best Buy and PS Direct. And that price usually drops to $399 for promotional pricing (which has happened twice this year already).

It makes no sense to assume that a PS5pro, will cost $200 more than a PS5. Especially not when considering what its actual upgrades are. Eg... you keep saying bigger SOC costs... this is not like Sony is spending some fresh new $150 on an APU. And so we just tack $150 on top of the current BOM of the PS5. No. Instead, sony is likely already spending $70 on their APU "budget" and the PS5pro APU would just cost them like $50-$60 more.

The same thing goes for RAM... if you look at material costs... you will quickly find that a PS5pro can't possibly be $200-$250 more expensive than the base PS5.

I think hoping for a detachable drive is the best case scenario. Hopefully they keep it as a side option for people really wanting that. But more and more games will drop it, and it'll be more of a boutique premium thing, which is profitable.

I will say I doubt this design is true. Making it the same would be very confusing to most people.

I am going to say the information is too safe to be true. It's all just a really safe guess except the design.

Wtf are Sony doing? PS4 Pro was a niche product and a LOT of people didn't upgrade over the PS4... people already don't like the look of the current PS5 console. If they had designed it to be more visually appealing this thing would have had a chance of selling WAY better than it's going to. Yeah it'll be powerful but people already have one ugly PS console in their house. They must be betting that games like GTA VI are going to help push sales for this thing.

Still in the $499-$599 range.
The thing is that $499 is not likely, I already explained why.

It doesn't really matter, they will not be doing ANY price cuts in Western regions when their second largest market is seeing a price increase next month. There's zero reason for them to do so.

I don't think people care nearly as much as you think about visual appeal when buying consoles. If they don't like the design, they'll just shrug and buy it anyway.

More than 60m. units have been sold with an “ugly” design. The only thing preventing the system doing better numbers is price, nothing more nothing less.

This will be a blogpost? A sop with third party games will be incredible bad. If they want this to sell they need a showcase by the level of the 2020.

Sounds like the price will be

$700 - PS5 Pro Digital
$750 - PS5 Pro w/Disc Attachment (if sold) otherwise there is the 80-dollar attachment

Given that it comes with 2TB of storage and the 1TB official storage for PS5 costs 129.99, I doubt we're looking at a simple increase in just the storage price like we're seeing with Microsoft.

The first major PS5 price drop will probably come in 2026 after sales have diminished from GTA6.

This also sets the stage for a much more expensive PS6.

Because there are a few reasons.

You have people upset that there won't be a Pro model XSX, you also have PCMR fanboys who are upset because dollar for dollar this is going to be the most powerful gaming rig on the market and much closer to higher end rigs, and then you have PS5 fans who don't make a lot of money who can't afford this and as a result they feel like they have been cheated, especially when the games start dropping to 30 fps on the base model.
Put the crack pipe down. Your prices are absurd. 0 chance this happens. 0 chance it comes with 2TB.

For development. What PC game needs 2TB?

This would not make sense unless you're loading multiple builds of the same game onto the same devkit and I'm talking about MULTIPLE.

For development, you would likely need LESS space than what you would need in retail as you're likely only working on a handful of games at most at a time and the studios who are big enough to work on multiple games are getting multiple devkits.

And then there is still the option of external storage, which would be cheaper for Sony and pass the cost on to developers.

It just doesn't add up.

Still don't understand a need for this.....have we seen that many PS5 games that push the current hardware to it's limits? I don't think we have. Will there be some benefit to having a Pro to making current PS5 games run or play better? I was all in on getting a PS4 Pro after having a PS4 and looking back, i can't really see the benefit of me doing so back in the day other than just saying i had the "latest and greatest"

Games are going to start topping off at 30fps on base consoles. Just look at Metal Gear Delta and to a degree Wukong.
