Agree, as gamers have gotten older (like myself) there are plenty of us with lots of disposable income who can afford pretty much any price for anything we want. I do not think Sony will have a problem selling it at all, even if it were up around $1k. I don't think Sony's target market here is going to be kids who must rely on their parents to buy things for them. If you still live with your parents and are middle age and cannot afford the price then shame on you, you have much bigger problems coming later on in life than the cost of a game console.
It's not necessarily always about disposable income, sometimes it's about value for money. I don't think a $700 console that isn't exactly in a health place in terms of content, presents itself as good value for money.

700 can go fuck itself.

Or the 1tb ssd lol

Yeah this is a no buy day one for me.

600 with 2tb sdd is what i expected but this????

The PS5 isn't even 1TB, it's like 825GB.

Same size SSD for $100-$200 more?

Surprised that it doesn't seem much bigger than the Slim. Maybe it is a reduction from 6nm after all and not as some rumours said still using that process. Though the increase in raw GPU/CPU power is modest so maybe being slightly thicker is all it needs for cooling. I'm just waiting to see the AI tech in action. DLSS level upscaling on a console would allow it to punch so far above it's weight.

And FINALLY move away from the trash IQ of FSR

What I liked about the PS4 pro design was that it looked like 2 ps4s duct taped together in a triple stack. Giving off an authentic ps triple look.

Since the ps5 looks like a cross between a router and a cervix, can you duct tape 2 together?

But back to his point about disposable. I think its a terrible value and a terrible idea to have refreshes be fucking $700 but ill probably still buy one cuz im bored and might as well get the best way to play GTA

Yeah, it's an absurd price point. I spend money on silly things all the time, but the rational side of me right now is telling me not to get this if it launches at that price. I might end up deliberating on it eventually, but I just hope Sony makes it an easier decision. I need to put this PS4 away lol.

I might have to tell myself that. Thats what i did with the vision pro and so thankful i didnt get one.

I agree, my point is that there will always be people who will buy it even though the value may not be there either. I would be super happy to pay $2k to $3k for a home game console that has the power of the most high end gaming PC yet does not require all the tinkering, etc.

If it is 600$/650€ +100$/120... So 720€ for it when the slim is often on sale at 450... Honestly I dunno...

PS4 slim was 299€, Pro was 399€... It was really acceptable. But 720... I might pass and just a get a slim. :(

$700 is dead on arrival if they want to go the route of the psvr2.
I don't know, you might be right. But I remember the PS3 launch and $600 for a console back then was just as absurd, in fact it might be around $700 today if it was adjusted for inflation. Sony still moved units, although a new console is not the same as in iteration, but people will spend money on these things.

Better be fake, no disc drive is a no buy.

disc drive sold separately, allowing them to market it at a "lower" price

IMO, PS5 Pro should be $500 and lower the slim to $400. It might be wishful thinking, though.

If they price it at $500 it could gain momentum since many people would prefer to buy the Pro, while casuals would be very ok getting the Slim at $400. It it's higher, it would stay as a niche product just like the PSVR and PS Portal.

Edit: It's rumored to be at $600? This thing won't sell more than 10 million units.

I said that under the assumption that the rumour infers 1 model. If it's one model, I don't see it retailing for less the $600, with an additional cost for a disk drive. Ideally, they announce two models, one at $600 with a disk drive, and one digital model for $550. I don't see it being cheaper than that to be honest. We'll see though, hopefully they get this announced ASAP so we can move on.

Well, recent price increase in Japan made me think of Sony's stance of Pro - as I think it will be 10k (minimum) to 15k more expensive than normal PS5.
$649 for Pro Digital, and $699 for disc version is my bet.

Inflation is killing a great many people when it comes to things like gaming. 700 feels like market suicide.

Then again, it is an enthusiast console..I dunno.

We'll see. I don't see it.

It's for professional gamers so it makes sense...

Regardless, if the perfomrance is good it will sell well at any price point.

I I like the PS5 design. As long as you have is vertical... When horizontal it looks so fucked up. It looks like it fell over. It looks like a drunk clam.

Vertical it looks... like nothing else in my place. PS2 was like that, too. Except that it looked good horizontal, too.

The only modern home console that looks nice is the original white 360 which successfully combined both a modernistic/futuristic design and the y2k anesthetic

All other consoles either look like modernist "futuristic" boring trash or are just straight up ugly

That's just me taking the piss because the image is literally that image and they duplicated the strips.
Which even for the other image that is supposed to be a real leak is a bit of joke.
Sony's design team basically used Photoshop on the slim design and did the same.
PS4 Slim & Pro did look similar but they was actually a few differences.
This and the "Real Leak" look fake as fuck.
And if it's real....

More little details:

I'm not sure why this thing is supposed to cost so much more. It's a somewhat larger soc and maybe a better cooler?

I suppose the price of the PS5 going up is the writing on the wall, though.

If you're talking about the 4chan "leak", that's because it's not real.

My guess (in USD) is $599USD for 1TB, 2TB at $699 and if there is a bundle with the disc drive it would be under the 1TB option...?

I don't know, don't see there being 4 types of options here. But buying the disc drive now separately versus it being packaged in a bundle would save you $20 or so. Maybe they don't do a bundle with the disc drive, but I feel like they would have to advertise that somehow so people are aware that you'll need to buy the drive separately. Kind of like the old toy commercials saying batteries not included.

... let's also see some sort of well thought our pre-order system.

People will still buy it, just like the fools who buy $1000 GPUs. We'll see what the end up doing, but it will certainly hurt sales if they price it that high. Much too high a price point for anyone to double dip, and I question the willingness of parents to buy a $700 console for their kids.

I don't know how people are coming up with $700 either. This thing will cost no more than $500 - $600.

APU cost will go up from what is now around $80 to $120 at most.

16GB of 14Gbs RAM which is now around $60 will go up to 16GB of 18Gbs RAM of around $80.

Cooling up from around $35 to like $45.

All in that's around $70 more than what the current PS5 cost to make. So if the current PS5 has a BOM of around $380, that means the PS5pro has a BOM of around $450. $500 if we wanna stretch it. I can see Sony selling it for $499/$550 without the disc drive, and a DD bundled SKU for $50 more of whatever the base unit cost.

I just don't see where or how they take a BOm of ~$450 and tack on around $150 - $250 on top of that. Only 4 things are really changing in the Pro, APU, RAM, cooling, and PSU. And all those changes combined, don't translate to $200+ more.

The PS5 is almost 4 years old, has a slim version, and yet is now more expensive to buy than when it launched in most market.

Think about that...

Sony doesn't give a fuck, they have zero competition in the console market, barely any games announced for the coming years and they might launch this thing for 599.99 Digital only / 699.99 Disk Version.
