billbil-kun - PS5 Pro: design leak, size close to slim, announcement window in firstr half of Spetember

I could understand the complaint in terms of size if someone struggled for space, but in terms of design the One S looks bland to me, like a random dvd player and the series X looks very awkward, like it doesn't know if it wants to be a fridge or a sound system. For the record I also found the PS4 extremely bland the the PS4 pro looked like somebody joked about ductaping two PS4 together except it wasn't a joke.

Many of us prefer our equipment to blend in, be it speakers, consoles or whatever else you have under your TV. To each their own, of course, but the PS5 design has been a laughing stock for years and it's a shame they aren't changing it a bit.

The PS5 is almost 4 years old, has a slim version, and yet is now more expensive to buy than when it launched in most market.

Think about that...

Sony doesn't give a fuck, they have zero competition in the console market, barely any games announced for the coming years and they might launch this thing for 599.99 Digital only / 699.99 Disk Version.

Do you think Sony makes more money from software or hardware?

That’s the real answer.

They don’t price hardware cheap because they’re looking out for consumers.

Hardware is just the gate to get you to spend real money.

Still the same ugly af PS5 design, gross. I bet it's fken white too.
Give me a black, slim/simple design and new twisted metal and I'm buying a PlayStation!
Makes zero difference for me what it looks like. I’ll never see it since it’ll be behind the tv.

Can't see it being 9th September as that's iPhone day. The media will be all over the new phone and the PS5 Pro will get barely a mention.

I don't think there will be dual consoles. There will be only one model, those who want BluRay will purchase the drive separately.

All the PS5 games are getting stealth dropped the same day as PS5 Pro. Everyone thinks the Pro buyers are insane for buying a second console with zero exclusive games, but they know what’s coming.

Killzone 4
Resistance 4
Motorstorm Atlantic Rush
Gran Turismo Storm (Forza Horizon competitor)
Days Gone 2
God of War reboot to the OG style
Getaway reboot
Syphon Filter reboot
SOCOM reboot

Insane lineup. Get your Pro preorder in now.
At count of three you will wake up, 1,2,3.

And so stealthy, that there are canceled games too.

Although I don't quite believe it, add some Bloodborne and we'll talk.

I wouldn't doubt anything Cerny does ever again even if he replaced PS5 GPU with NES processor from 1983.

Man knows what he is doing, proved it 2 generations in a row.
Yet the base model is feeling outdated af 4 yrs after release and struggling to run games even at 1440p 30fps with FSR.

If Sony has any sense they'll keep this within $600, but the disc drive may be an optional extra. It's already a separate available SKU.... I could also see $650 for disc and $580 digital or something around that. I doubt they'll up the storage.

Really interested to see how games work out on this new system. I can't help but think this will mean 30fps for PS5 and 60fps for Pro with varying degrees of raytracing. In that sense, the PS5 will be the anchor that'll allow Pro games to get the performance people actually want.

Then as soon as PS6 lands, it'll start again.

I think that's basically what consoles will be now a few years of running games available on older systems well, then a few years of running games less well than they run on the new system.

I guess at the moment, we're in the awkward middle ground that people think will be when the PS5 spreads it's wings. But instead the stuff that's better than last year's games are basically waiting for the new hardware to run well.

That fucking atrocious design again.. I need it to blend in (my kids are playing in a minimal design space), not stand out like crazy.

Edit: I guess I'll just have to find a way to hide it. We're all digital in this house anyway.

I'd simplify the lineup:
  • $399 PS5 (1TB)
  • $499 PS5 Pro (1TB)
  • $599 PS5 Pro (2TB, "30th Anniversary Edition")
All digital-only SKUs as standard and sell the readily available single-sku universal disc drive for $69.

The 30th Anniversary Pro would be on the market for only a year and would include an extra plate in the box in its respective colour for if you add-on the disc drive.

I'm an enthusiast who will usually pay the going rate for the better experience and suck up the costs to get in early too, but even to me '$699' sounds absurd..

An extra few dollars on 18Gbps ram chips over 16Gbps, an extra few dollars on cooling, an extra few dollars on the PSU, some better caps and probably an extra $30-40 on the APU itself; and even taking into account R&D over the course of 10-15m sold over the next 3-4yrs. They'll probably still make more on the Pro than the base unit at a price point just $100 higher. Then an anniversary edition that's on the market for a longer period would net them a major markup too (doubling the SSD from 1TB to 2TB won't be a major cost and the other differences will be cosmetic). I'd also do the entire range of PS5 accessories in the 30th anniversary aesthetic too with a ~$10 mark up each.

just throwing it out there
fast pcie 4.0 1tb vs 2tb is 50-60usd difference for final buyer, so likely will be even less for sony as massproduced/purchased part
and im talking top brands like samsung even
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Fs...pcie-40-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-mz-v9p1t0bw 117usd for 1tb 990 pr0 and 169usd for 2tb version
There's two reasons I can see them going 2tb. One is to make it look better on the box. When we think about the 2tb Xbox offering announced. And the other would be to help push a digital Pro. For me, I think keeping costs down would trump both. And whatever they do with the Pro, it'll definitely allow the drive for the slim to be added, if not an all in option at launch.

All speculation of course from moi.

People will still buy it, just like the fools who buy $1000 GPUs. We'll see what the end up doing, but it will certainly hurt sales if they price it that high. Much too high a price point for anyone to double dip, and I question the willingness of parents to buy a $700 console for their kids.

It will come down to how the features will really sell the Console. Which is why I see Mark Cerny doing a presentation for this. A blog post with the way short attention spans are for people these days to read all the jargon will not help sell this thing at a higher price point.

If it's $700USD in the least, those potential features plus 2TB... I can see it. The caveat for me is the disc drive being there under this price tag. $700 for 2TB w/ disc? Sure, would be nice.

The standalone disc drive is $79 right now. So going to $599 digital at 1TB no disc and then you buy it separately puts you nearing $700 (with tax if applicable).

As for the parents, none of them will buy at either price point UNLESS they are gamers themselves playing with their kids.

If this thing ends up $600 or more it's gonna have to last me until the PS6 Pro*. Next gen will probably have a lengthy cross gen period, anyways...

* though there is a part of me that feels like I'm done buying consoles after this generation ends. I'll all about the PC handhelds.

Hopefully there’s an option to keep it horizontal. All you vertical folks are savages.
I had mine horizontal from launch day until recently. I decided to try vertical. The included stand is actually very solid for vertical use. It shows off the console more, so I can actually see the silver cover plates I was gifted. Also, I now have an entire shelf in my TV stand free for other use. Not to mention that the vents and air flow seem to be designed for vertical use.

Vertical is awesome, but I do still hope horizontal is an option.

Who the hell expects a cheap PRO device?
People that don't realize that some people that grew up gaming are at the point of their life where they have a shit ton of disposable income. I worked at McDonald's when I was 16, but I didn't spend the last 30 years there.

As long as it's easy to find by the time GTA6 is out I'm straight. No reason to get it till then unless they release it with a Bloodborne remake.

So what about all the 16 yr olds currently working at McDonalds? I dare say there are more people that can at least stomach $500/$600 than there are that can stomach $700.

And yours is a somewhat selfish/arrogant take. That of those out-of-touch people that because they have come out the other end of the grinder forget what it was like to be in the grinder. Kinda like how suits think.

How about 2tb PS5 Pro for $450?

You know, I'm not quite sure what it is about it, but 700 really does seem like much more than 6. 6 is a hair over 5, 7 feels too close to a thousand.

????

Console exists to offer the best value. If you have a shit ton of money, you can buy a $3000 PC

Why doesn't Sony sell PS5 Pro for $3000?

Great idea, right?!??

The disc version is being sold at 549€
I don't see the digital pro being less than 649€ unless they do this
Price cut for the standard after pro release, digital at 349 and disk at 449
Pro at 549 or 599

I know you’re a PC gamer with a monster rig, buy I’ve noticed you’re very passionate about consoles too? Why is that?
As silly as this sounds I just like new toys

That said my 35 year old son only plays on Xbox so anytime I can game with him and chat with him is just bonus for me so I own an Xbox (which I actually love their hardware)

Sony used to have mega hit single player games I simply had to play and still enjoy my first person shooters on Playstation to avoid PC gamers when I can so I own a Playstation

Everything else I play on PC

While consoles shouldn't be super expensive, I don't know why it should be exempt from inflation like everything else. Why do people think that the wages of the people assembling it in China can go up 10 times, but the cost remain the same.

Gee, where do I start. I was making 6.80$ an hour and the PS2 launched at 449$ CAD. Minimum wage is now 15.25$ an hour and the PS5 Slim is 652$ CAD.

Also, we're talking about the Pro here, the premium mid-gen SKU that provides better performance for people that can afford it and want it. The 1995 Porsche 911 was 63k (Carrera Coupe 2D), it's 114k now. Anyway for broke people where 100$ matters there's going to be lots of used PS5 incoming anyway, and used Corollas to drive them to the seller.

And for the record, I would 100% pay 3000$ for an 80TF PS5 that played everything at 120fps.

PS5 doesn't feel outdated at all, its the opposite actually.

2001 OG Xbox
2005 Xbox 360 (at least 20x the jump)

Nowadays the latest GPU you bought 5 years ago can still be performing very well (except for certain features like RT) which PS5Pro will fill nicely.

So do we know if it's digital only. Or do we have to buy the digital version and get the disc addon on top of it?
