$1k Handheld is DOA.Yeah, and it comes with a better chipset.
Not for me but for those folks who like their PC handhelds, this seems like a decent enough deal I guess![]()

DOA compared to what? A console?$1k Handheld is DOA.
I don't want to say DoA
But DoA
Switch 2 or Steamdeck. Why would anyone buy this? They're literally half the price.DOA compared to what? A console?

if these handhelds cost this much, how much will the nexgen consoles cost?
4 figures.if these handhelds cost this much, how much will the nexgen consoles cost?
This is wrong. The next xbox are going to be over $1k.less. because these handhelds aren't subsidised. even tho they have a partnership with Microsoft here, Asus still has to make back the R&D and sell the system at a price that gives them a decen margin to do so and make a profit.
a console doesn't have to do this. those can be sold as a loss or with 0 profit margins because accessories, game licenses and online subscriptions are the money makers.
if the Switch 2 wasn't a console, but a PC handheld made by Asus, HP, Ayaneo etc., it would probably cost 600€ at a minimum, with the potential for more than that.
you for real? that means 1800 in europe easy, smart move would be to keep them at 499.4 figures.
$1000 USD
Unless some new technology shows up in the next few years, I expect people to have sticker shock with the next gen consoles.you for real? that means 1800 in europe easy, smart move would be to keep them at 499.
"Why is the Switch 2 not more powerful???"
This is why. Cram power into a portable console and the price skyrockets. It's cool for it to exist and I don't think XBOX is expecting it to sell tens of millions of it anyway but that is pretty damn expensive.
Add to this that both Sony and Microsoft are obviously moving away from subsidised hardware, and yeah - next gen consoles are going to be very expensive.Unless some new technology shows up in the next few years, I expect people to have sticker shock with the next gen consoles.
I don't think the Switch 2 is subsidized. after all they making profit from that system alone.Switch 2 is being subsidized. This is not and it is an open platform so you can do whatever you want with it. It is really the same console vs PC argument all over again except in the handheld format.
The great equalizer between console and PC with handhelds, however, is both are limited by battery constraints.

from my understanding a subsidized system is where a company sells at cost or slightly below cost in favor of gaining profit somewhere else. Nintendo is making a profit on everything.
We gotta see how well that cut down Windows performs.
People that will buy it are pictured below:
"Subsidized" is not at all the right word here, since that is not what they are doing. The price is not "down", they are running a profit on every unit sold, that is why the price is high.Maybe subsidized isn't the right word for Switch and PS5 where a small profit is made, but they are able to keep the price down because of the closed ecosystem. From my understanding, that's subsidized. If there is a better word for it then someone correct me.

There is a market but it's a very niche market and this is a $900-1000 USD device within that niche market. Its a PC handheld? Are you suggesting there isn't a market for them anymore?
The only difference with consoles is that Sony/Nintendo will still make money off of money and accessories while somebody like ASUS has nothing to fall back on besides the sale of the unit itself.Unless some new technology shows up in the next few years, I expect people to have sticker shock with the next gen consoles.
This isn't supposed to compete with the Switch 2 you lunatic.Switch 2 will eat this alive. Switch 2 will be the goat in this gen and next gen.
Im aware of all that. The poster I was replying to claimed it was "DOA"There is a market but it's a very niche market and this is a $900-1000 USD device within that niche market.
People act like these handheld gaming PCs are this mass market popular device. The entire market has only sold around 6M units since 2022 (as of 2/2025) and 4M of those were the Steam Deck so that leaves like 2M units devised between ALL of the other devices of which there are a lot. None of these sell very well.
Combine that with the fact that the Xbox brand has been hemorrhaging for years and it's not like this is going to be this super high seller.
