Black Myth: Wukong has sold 10 million copies across all platforms.

They have one half of the equation that could save the videogaming industry. Games that they despise because of political reasons are successfull.
The other half has something to do with woke games that they support not selling at all...

If only one of the megaminds over there could connect the dots.

No one is buying what they're selling. Scantily clad women sells. Explicit violence sells. Not being browbeaten with a political message sells. In other words, everything they've spend the last 10 years reeling against ends up making a game a smash hit. The vast majority of people want escapism and to feel heroic. They don't want to sit down and be lectured to by retards.

Crazy numbers, I was asking a few people about this as I'm now in FOMO mode, but heard the constant monkey noises and the bosses making noises is super grinding in peoples nerves! Anyone have this experience? Or can it be reduced turned off??
This is the weirdst complain to have tbh. I had no problem with bosses or the player noises/grunts. Only thing that got my gears grinding were the unnecessary invisible walls in the map on places that felt like were explorable, making level design a bit iffy at times. Aside from that the game is great.

That's especially insane if you think this is basically an action game, usually pretty niche genre. 10 million is huge even if it was a souls like, but is not from what I've seen.

Let's not forget the studio only has around 140 people (in fact when they released the first trailer in 2022, they only had 20+ devs). The total dev cost is about 300 - 400 million CNY, i.e., ~$ 60 million. Granted that the salary level in China is leagues lower than in developed countries.

Magnificent success.

Sales aside, having a first-timer studio with "only" 140 devs making this game in 5 years puts to shame most of AAA studios nowadays and destroys the narrative of 300M budgets.

This game is top quality with more content than most, no season pass, no MTX, etc. No wonder many feel threatened. It's time to counter the preachers of AAAAAA business models.

That's out of control. What the hell. China should obviously be doing more of this kind of thing if it's going to go over this well with their own people.

At least they actually buying a game and not just pirating and cheating 🤣.

And at least it looks like it's an actual game too, compare this to palworld and this game at least makes sense that it's selling well

Considering 90% of the sales came from their own domestic chinese market, it perfectly makes sense. It fuels their nationalism, considering Journey to the West is one of their most popular national story that was re-created as TV shows, movies and cartoon, and the character is literally their popular cultural mythic/religious figure.

Apparently, the game also drove the ps5 sales frenzy in chinese e-market as well.

So not only does a great game with great devs become hugely successful, but we get to enjoy the upcoming seething from the haters, can't wait.

That's a really weird complaint lol, never even crossed my mind to complain about that... You're literally playing as a monkey.

It would've been impressive if the sales figure was divided between different regions, but of course it's skewed heavily towards chinese domestic sales. Not sure if you can even compare it to the success of Hogwarts Legacy and Elden Ring sales.
Because Chinese people aren't real people and don't count amirite? 🤦‍♂️ It's not as if they don't purchase other big titles and count towards those numbers too, such as Elden Ring on Steam. Go look at the number of sales and reviews in the Chinese language.

Whats with the emotional outburst?

It's not a fair assessment and comparison if you compare the success of this game to games like Hogwarts or Elden Ring. Context matters. If Elden Ring's millions of sales number came from one specific region like Japan, then it wouldn't have been impressive like other games that sold millions all over different parts of the world. The same reason why I rarely don't give a rats ass about CoD's sales chart because it's only skewed towards one specific region every year. If somehow CoD blew past millions of copies sold in Asia, miraculously, then I would consider it as a success.

Rockstar will be really brain dead to skip PC launch and focus on Xbox release. PS5 yes but Xbox and leaving PC for later will be really now considered very bad move.
Things have changed a lot when Rockstar released RD2 for PC.

Deserves it! Game is pretty awesome.
Seriously.
I thought it was just "fine" in the first minutes, then I grew to like it more and more and now (somewhat midway to the third chapter) I'm simply loving it more with every passing hour I'm spending on it.

All due respect, no.
140 devs (not including support teams) and 5 years is absolutely AAAAA or whatever. The only difference would be the rate of payment to the devs, which would be cheaper just by exchange rate and local wage levels.

I also do not think this game is so high in quality to put western or Japanese devs to "shame". The reviews certainly haven't illustrated that picture, and the massive success, real though it is, seems to be dragging people along a hype train conflating its success with quality. Even it's financial success is under different standards to everything else; all of a sudden, the Chinese market has showed out for a game that reuses the some of the aesthetics and all of the gameplay conceits from a previously established foreign franchise/"genre", where they only showed up for Gacha shit and Honkai-bait before.

I really don't think the Chinese game market deserves our sudden respect because of one example.

Hehe. I mean I dont really care about platforms much and can live with 2-3 launchers. I buy wherever I get them cheaper, which is often Epic lately as they give 5% (sometimes 10%) cashback on every purchase and so I kinda always have some money in their wallet.

I know the launcher is missing some features but I never really use it or steam for anything other than launching the games. Refunds also have never given me any issues, just like steam.

Those idiots just banned me while leavin

that thread got me banned because I didn't agree with their hive mind 😂. They're all allowed to call people idiots and chuds but god forbid you say something positive about the game! Fucking losers
Fucking crybabies. They need to grow up if they want to be taken seriously.
