Black Myth: Wukong has sold 10 million copies across all platforms.

Can someone tell me why the devs are horrible according to the purple place? Is it because they are Chinese?

I'm not at all convinced that Nintendo doesn't give a shit. They have potential for universal appeal across the planet, including China. Things change.

Then they'll do that...with Nintendo hardware. And theme parks. And films. And Pokemon. And merchandise. Let's just say Nintendo isn't as greedy for revenue/profits-at-all-cost as, say, Microsoft Gaming are.

Not spending $85 billion in gaming acquisitions is probably a big part of that.

They about to ban the game over there 🤣

10 million is huge even if it was a souls like, but is not from what I've seen.

Haven't been keeping up on the gameplay mechanics of this game. How is it not a souls like? Are people just calling it that because it looks like a third person action RPG?

Whats with the emotional outburst?

It's not a fair assessment and comparison if you compare the success of this game to games like Hogwarts or Elden Ring. Context matters. If Elden Ring's millions of sales number came from one specific region like Japan, then it wouldn't have been impressive like other games that sold millions all over different parts of the world. The same reason why I rarely don't give a rats ass about CoD's sales chart because it's only skewed towards one specific region every year. If somehow CoD blew past millions of copies sold in Asia, miraculously, then I would consider it as a success.

What the hell is this logic? 🤣

WOW! Happy a single player game is doing this kind of numbers. Chinese market is not playing around holy shit.
Its crazy to think about the bump in PS5 sales this may have, they keep getting serendipitous console exclusives.

All due respect, no.
140 devs (not including support teams) and 5 years is absolutely AAAAA or whatever. The only difference would be the rate of payment to the devs, which would be cheaper just by exchange rate and local wage levels.

efore.

I really don't think the Chinese game market deserves our sudden respect because of one example.

What I mean with Wukong is that a bunch of newbies make an AAA that is several times less costly than the likes of GOW or Spiderman, while being of a similar scope. Western studios are pushing the narrative that they need 400 people to make a great AAA game, which Game Science proves wrong. Most gaming studios are overstaffed.

Chinese workers have cheaper salaries compare to the other countries.

It's not an emotional outburst, just a genuine point. Are we going to put a big asterisk next to BMW from now on because the developers are from China and a lot of the customers are from China even though it's still clearly a big success internationally and still growing in awareness? It's literally their first game. Have we done that with Japanese developed games? Should we start doing that with all games that aren't developed in the US?

Regardless of where it was developed and where a majority of the sales are coming from, I'm having a ton of with the game just like I am any Fromsoft game or any other Soulslike. Do I wish Stellar Blade or Lies of P had similar success? Sure. But you're talking about one of the most well known Mythologies ever here with Wukong, not just in China and the developers did it justice. It's not perfect by any means, but it's a great game. If the game was utter garbage and selling this way, I could see the argument for nationalism and whatnot, but that doesn't hold water here.

The opening of Wukong made it very clear to me how the woke shit is ruining games and other media. The dialog, the characters, you really buy that this is how ancient divine pugnacious beings would behave. In GOW Ragnarok the characters and dialog seem weak and lame by comparison, even next to 2018 game, showing the progress of the disease.

The graphics and gameplay can be good, but without a powerful story and some rough edges on the characters, the current year western games are never fully satisfying, all is very inoffensive to the point of killing the hype.

That ree thread is hilarious. Cant reconcile that people just want to play hype games. Happened with cyberpunk, hogwarts legacy and now bmw. Their entire reality is breaking.

Yeah! Resetera is a joke of a forum. I made a thread about the game Witchfire and got lambasted because it was about witches and persecuted women in history, and that the developer made some dodgy comments in Twitter in the past. I just wanted to talk about the game, no politics. Just the game and how promising it was. I also stated that in history many men were also executed as witches, and that so far in the game there were no actual female characters. One month ban and thread closed! lol!

Guys what do you think about the fact that Black Myth: Wukong Marketing Team Offers Content Creators a Steam Key but they have some sort of Do's and Don'ts that are kind of idk, weird

The first time I was warned for congratulating Bradley Ellis on his new job at Last Stand Media. Then they banned me stating "dismissive commentary" 😂 such snowflakes

There we agree. To be fair though, I don't even think game publishers or hardline gamers actually argue that we need 500 person permanent teams of one game. That sounds more like the devs who whine on social media about layoffs.

I mean, you remember the Spider-Man leaks? It's clear leaders in Insomniac only begrudgingly pushed back on Sony. They thought they were spending time and money unnecessarily.

Thought that was kinda debunked. But content creators are the fucking worst and will say anything for a buck and anyone listening to anything they say thinking it is a legitimate reflection of their thoughts is an idiot. I mean even the term is bullshit - content creators - when the 'content' part is almost universally made by other people and they are just showing or recycling it and making dumb jokes.
Whoo went on a bit of a rant there.

I wish we could discuss the game success without having to bring up the purple kingdom. We are a better community than they could ever aspire to be.

Back to the topic. I did my part. Twice. Got a copy for my brother on ps5 and myself on PC.

Damn, I didn't think about that part. I just saw this stuff in a YouTube video from a YouTuber, and he looked a little annoyed. But I think you're right. The part about not being able to mention COVID-19 and quarantine is the part that gets me. The others I understand

The next game from these guys is gonna be nuts. Putting this out as your debut is such a wild accomplishment. I wonder what they do.
I heard they're planning a black myth trilogy, this one is action, next one will be a strategy game and the third one I don't remember what people said.

A sound one.

False equivalence. BMW is already an established brand, unlike Black Myth. Even if you use chinese car brand like Chery as your argument, it still don't hold water because their car is one of the best selling cars in their domestic market, but has almost 0.1% market share on rest of the world, even though they actively export their cars.

We aren't discussing the quality of the game. That was never the discussion. We are comparing the game that almost exclusively sold well in china, to games like Hogwarts and Elden Ring that sold well in multiple regions that accumulate their millions of sold copies. Not a fair comparison, is it? Now, come back with me with a tangible, legit evidence that this game is selling millions of copies outside of china AS WELL, then your argument has some merit.

We really need that thread back where we could poke fun at the loonys over there.

It was immature but i found it highly humorous.

Amen.

Same here.
To me they just don't exist.
It's so much better than hating them 😊
I dont go over there myself but i did enjoy that thread. Some of the takes were literally insane.

Enough said. Back to The monkey chat.

I can't play until next week and the wait in killing me. Looks lovely.
