Black Myth Wukong: Xbox Series X/S vs PS5/Pro comparison (El AnalistaDeBits)

Xbox Series S has some heavy visual cutbacks that are worse than PC's lowest settings. LOD's on certain objects are turned down, foliage is pruned, shadow quality is much lower, and ray-tracing seems to have been drastically reduced or cut entirely. Despite this, the general look of the game is mostly retained; the image is sharp, and the framerate is stable. It's almost like a good last gen/Switch port of a next gen game (ala Jedi Survivor).

Surprisingly, the 60FPS (frame generated) performance mode is also retained. Frame generation requires extra memory and AMD cautioned it's use on Series S.

Series X is comparable to PS5 and PS5 Pro. Ray-tracing does seem to be cut in Performance Mode and there does seem to be tearing now. But owners of the flagship Xbox aren't missing out on anything.

I'm going to wait to see the DF analysis. But I've seen some comparisons on YouTube, and I think that DF analysis will be entertaining and interesting because some rather curious decisions have been made in the XSX version compared to the PS5 and Pro versions.

Decisions like removing Lumen in XSX's Performance mode, which of course results a in better performance, average resolution, and detail than PS5 and even PRO in this las aspect but at the expense of GI. In fact, it's so strange that I wouldn't rule out it being a bug or an effect of loading assets from the XSS version. More when 60fps in this performance mode is via FrameGen.

Then, in Quality and Balance mode, XSX is presented on par with the PS5 and PRO versions also in FPS performance. Changes to the shadows, but the XSX version seems to maintain better IQ than PS5 base on those modes, and/or better texturing and LOD of textures and vegetation in the distance (the latter even compared to PS5 Pro) in the distance... 🤔

It's as if they made an XSX version ex-process without looking at the PS5 versions...

As I said, DF's analysis points to a lot of interesting things to comment on regarding the Wukong port on XSeries.

P.S. The fact that XSS has a performance mode is curious because it's usually always ruled out in these types of more demanding UE5 games.

Overall a good port, but no wonder they needed more time (XSS).

Occasional dips (slightly more aggressive than ps5/pro) and messed up shadows on the XSX might need a little more work tho.

Also the guy made a mistake when comparing the xbox versions in the indoors GI section, because that's impossible:

I like that the grass looks better on XSX than on PS5, also bonus points for performance mode on XSS (y)

Curiously, the shadows on XSX would be the same as on PS5 before the last patch where several things were modified, including lower resolution and tweaks to Lumen.

Then, XSX show better textures in some spot in this video VS PS5 (and PRO in ocassions) and also better vegetation and LoD in the distance.

Xbox Series X maintains a higher average resolution than PS5 in performance mode at the cost of significant cuts in shadows and global illumination

When I end up getting the game I'm gonna for balance mode because I just don't dig the softer look of performance mode, that's not for me. And judging by the comments it seems that mode has suffered the least cutbacks.

But XSX also shows better IQ/resolution than PS5 in Quality and Balanced modes, in addition to better textures and LoD of textures details and vegetation at distance. And in those modes, Lumen is present, and performance is on par.

I've already mentioned that the shadows are curious because they look the same as the shadows on PS5 before the latest patch.

And yes, it seems that Lumen is disabled in Performance mode, which would be a strange and pointless decision. Among other things, because in that mode, 60fps are achieved via Framegen. Obviously, it's expected that, without Lumen, resolution, detail, and framerate would see improvements on XSX.
P.S. Regarding the native resolution and AA used, I would wait for DF. Elanalista fails 4 out of 5 times.

Might play it if it ever comes to game pass but the combat always looked so dull, the same combo over and over, pretty game tho.
Don't you get tons of new abilities via skill unlocks and what not? Plus aren't there plenty of different weapons with unique moves?

You do got many abilities but can only equip a handful at once, one of every category. They also need a cooldown period, so your main damage dealing method is always your staff.

As for the different staves, some do have different movesets, but only a handful and it's just a few new/altered moves. Otherwise, they all play 90% the same.

They should test the input lag on this game. This would be the most important thing in this game with possibly Fake gen in some modes.

Anybody with a decent PC should not play this on any console as the IQ in motion is horrendous.

Damn, that's a bit of a shame. I was hoping for a good variety of different attacks and moves, that would have been ideal.

Wut. Reading all your posts seems almost series X is better when the other people there say otherwise lol.

It wasn't delayed for porting work, it wasn't allowed to launch on other consoles because of a marketing deal with Sony. We've been over this quite a bit since last summer, it's well-trodden ground at this point.

There's no reason it wouldn't be on par or slightly better in maybe some small areas. Series X is slightly more powerful than PS5 on paper. Which is not news, just pointing it out incase some have forgotten.

They haven't any marketing deal with Sony. Stop with this urban legend

I have bad news to you: sometimes ports can be better on ps5. I know it's shocking to hear.
