Black Ops 6 best performing CoD in 10yrs (Half of PC players on GamePass // First time xbox players outnumber PS)

"Half of PC players on Gamepass" is framed as some sort of success story for Microsoft here, but it's basically alternate wording for "Sales on PC so far are so lukewarm that PC Gamepass subscribers are enough to make half of the total".

Imagine that- People who subscribe to gamepass played the biggest game in the world CAUSE IT'S INCLUDED IN THEIR RENTAL SERVICE! Wow. What a shock. Now lets see what happens in a months time when most have stopped playing on gamepass and the REAL players who love COD continue playing elsewhere...

Also, determine "best performing" cause I don't see sales anywhere in that bullshit tweet. We now think engagement is a positive factor? Fuck, Microsoft have duped so many into thinking sales don't matter anymore. Wish the Prince Of Persia guys knew that sales didn't matter...

Now here is a sprinkle of salt if you like.

Just one quick example of why this data is absolutely unbelievable.

From the MS/ABK court case, we know that PC has the highest player count for COD. It goes like this: (Mobile) > PC > PS > Xbox.

And there were, what, ~3 million PC Game Pass subscribers the last time we had that data?

So we're saying that:
  1. BO6 is the best-performing COD in 10 years (which means there would be more than 17.5 million PC players, proportionately speaking)
  2. And half of those PC players played the game on Game Pass? That'd be, what, ~9 million PC Game Pass players?
This just doesn't add up.

If it were true, Microsoft would shouting these numbers off the rooftop, and COD BO6 would have single-handedly revived Game Pass and became one of the biggest-ever success stories.

I think it's too early to say honestly. I think we should see where things land in about 2 weeks after launch.

Sure...

Xbox One + Xbox Series = Of course it is 120 millions monthly! That make sense
Thats Xbox MAU completely different. They'll count anyone in that figure like sea of thieves players on Playstation for example.

The tweet is about half of PC players playing via gamepass.

Tbh. This kind of makes sense. There's over 20 million gamepass subscribers that just have to click install and play.

Ps has to pay 70 dollars and I doubt 10 million did it day one.

Would also love to know if Xbox game pass players spend more money in the COD store since they didn't "buy" the game.
Its the only way this strategy makes any sense if you ask me. They must be banking on a bigger volume of players via Gampass +mtx is better than having smaller actual sales of the game+mtx. Well a mix of both as things stand.

After all wasn't there talk of it going free to play at one point a few years ago?

COD was always going to propel xbox... there are reasons MS paid $68 billion and why Jim fought tooth and nail against it.

we are at the end stages of a generation so casuals and console sales probably won't be that dramatic. next gen will be interesting though.

End stages? Best tell those who just ordered the Pro to hold off.

Path of exile did it to me. The amount I spent for extra inventory = 40/50 usd. If a game is good, they will get your money.

Who cares if people unsubscribe after a month or its loosing sales due to gamepass?

Just get gamepass, enjoy the game. Or dont.

Too much energy is spent on talking about sales, subscriptions etc. Its almost like one of the platforms has only that going for it.

That's good but I wouldn't label it a success unless GP numbers significantly increase for longer than a few months window.

Makes sense for current GP members to out number paid PlayStation consumers.

Good for them, I suppose.

It's a fun game minus NO GROUND WAR CNRJFJF FJFNFN

I blame other shooters being below average (concord) and how many proven shooters are out there right now? You aren’t seeing shooters anymore.
COD's apparent success is down to Concord, thats a new one.

Some one tell Firewalk they finally got something right.

If this were true then Phil Spencer would be screaming it on a megaphone so if MS comes out and says it then good news, but otherwise......this deserves skepticism, imo.
Honestly it's not even that great news for xbox. Game is given away on a sub on the platform but it's "just over half" of console users on xbox who have "played it". It means the other half which are entirely sales are nearly beating it. It's "engagement" stuff and a lot of them are likely to drop it after "playing it" compared to those who intentionally buy it. "Best performing" is likely again engagement and not sales.

Let the spin commence. No matter how well it does for gamepass or Xbox it won't be enough for some.

How well it does "for gamepass or xbox" is something you don't know. It has increased player numbers of Cod on xbox and gamepass because it entered gamepass. Doesn't mean much else.
