OK I think I'm stuck. I'm just past Pachess Town.
The village elder told me where I'm supposed to go next... but does he mean I'm supposed to go to that four-leggend robot doing circles in the middle of nowhere? I got on that ship, got all the way to the end of the second floor where there are barriers up... I disabled the first two no problem but can't disable the third one.
Where should I go next?

OK, question about the end of Disc 2.
There are three secret achievements I suspect are all in a row, right? Kluke choking, Shu's Shadow, and the Squashtrich escape. Those would all, I'd assume, logically fall right at the end of disc 2.

Also, anyone
do the Moon Laser perfect?
Seems to me that would be a hard one to get. I have a save right there, dunno if I wanna go back and try for that...

About your first question yes, but
I'd say there were 5 right in a row, you got to save Kluke from the fall, get to the top in under and hour, do the moon laser perfect, stop kluke's choking, and escape from the Squashtrich... Shu's Shadow doesn't happen until disc 3

Also I did the same thing with the
moon laser, I created a save for it and then went back to it after finishing disc 2, man it was a pain in the ass but I got the achievement. It's easy as hell but if you take too long two of the last three moons will shoot at the same time and your fucked. There is a pattern though, so getting it down's not too much trouble... Just make sure you take no damage and that you never shoot the moon's when their sheilds are up... I got it in about 12 tries...

I'm in the middle of doing sidequests on disc 3, should be done in a few days, all depends how much grinding I can stand at a time...

Just finished the Pachess Town quest last night. Just have to say that the town is probably one of the best looking places so far in the game. Running around in the field by the pond with the snow-capped mountains was just beautiful.

Also, I noticed early on that the game had soo many moons. I think I counted 3 moons on the first disk(the night before the wagon escort). Then, during the nite scene at Pachess Town, I saw that there was 7 or so moons. I thought it was strange to have that many moons and that it was some kind of mistake by the devs. No way did they put in 7 moons, that's just overkill! But after completing the quest, I was pleasantly surprised. Also, anyone read the books scattered throughout the game? Seems like the stories parallels the main story, especially the wizard and robot story. Maybe its the backstory/clues to Nene and the past. Anyways, the story seems to be slowly unraveling and it does seem like its getting better. The game seems to require you to think and check out your environments/surroundings for clues into the story of the game. Not a necessity, but it seems to reward you if you pay close attention. Can't wait to find out who that voice was from the beginning of the game.

Yeah, I really like how they included the sub-stories in the game... I have a feeling that
the first robot with a conscience could be a reference to Yasato
. Get ready for an intense dungeon up next (one I just finished)... my plan for this weekend - do as much of disk 3 as possible!

I think I'm at the end of disc 1...
just defeated Nene's five robot bosses
.

Its gonna kill me trying to get the achievement for
beating the first Mechat shooting level perfectly

There's a save point right before the mechat part. I haven't gotten the achievement yet, but I left the save so that I could do it later. It's actually pretty easy. Nene attacks in the (rough idea) front first, then the back, then the sides, and finally the front(I finished him off here). Only reason why I got hit was because I wasn't used to the controls. Basically, attack his missiles with your gunner, and Lock on all your missiles unto his aircraft. You should take him down pretty easily.

Yeah, I've beaten him twice. I did it perfectly once too...but it was on the easy mode.

Needlees to say, didn't get the achievement for doing it that way. :lol

After learning that Lost Odyssey was pushed back to Q1 08, I finally decided to purchase Blue Dragon. I expect to receive my copy in two or three days.

Can anyone explain what is supposed to happen at the end of the demo (the fortress level) ? I don't beat Nene, nor do I run out of time, but the game announces that I'm done.
Speaking about the demo, I have to say that I don't share the point of view that it is a bad demo. I liked the fact that the tree boss in the forest level is just a little too hard to be beaten by spamming attacks and heals and it takes a little tuning of your party to be sure to take him down. Very good way to let people tinker with the battle system, which I think was the true purpose of this demo.

From what others have said about, the demo takes place in the late 2nd/3rd disk. Im not there yet, but there's no point in finding out what happens since you have no backstory to go by. And unless you grind all your shadows to max, you wont have skills like what was shown on the demo[at that point in the game]. Also, if you want a challenge, make sure to dl the dlc through an Asian or Japanese account. The game is pretty easy if your a seasoned jrpg vet.

Well, I finished secret of mana (action rpg), played some hours of chrono trigger (don't remember why I stopped, I liked the trial), and tried to play FFVI (fell asleep, sorry). I'm hardly a seasoned jrpg vet. More like a total jrpg rookie actually.

I would still recommend playing it on hard. Without the hard mode download, the game isn't just easy, it's embarrassingly easy. You can win most fights without using any spells or special abilities, and you rarely need to heal. Hard mode is the way to go.

I'm almost done with the main story.. I LOVE this game and this is coming from a relative RPG newb..

I'm at the point where..

I beat Nene, Zola won't fight me and now I'm fighting Destory but have died a couple of times...I think this is the last battle isn't it? Or is there one more plot twist afterwards? Just tell me there is more to come without telling me what happens.

I died a couple of times and on my third retry I decided that I didn't want to finish the game just yet. I just don't want it to end just yet, I'm enjoying the journey too much and am not ready for the destination!

I decided that I wanted to finish all the side quests first. Is that a mistake? I know the longer I put it off the more inviincible my party will become but I dont' really care about that. I'm actually enjoying leveling up my characters. The class system is great and love the strategy invovled in the party formation and battle tactics.

Should I finish the main story first? Do I get some special prize that will help me in completing all the side quests?

Also from reading the manual depending on the class you stop getting new skills at certain ranks so when I get to that point I will switch to a new class to try and get all the skills and so on. Is there a benefit to go beyond that class rank? How does your level affect your classes? Is level only for your physical attacks?

Normally I get bored so easily with RPGs but for some reason I can't stop playing this game. This game makes me want to try out other RPG's to see what I've been missing.

Unfortunately I've never owned a PS2 which I guess has the best ones. When I do get my PS3 at some point in the future I'll definately check out games like DQVIII etc..

Until then I'm looking forward to Eternal Sonata, Lost Oddessy and Mass Effect! I also want to retry Oblivion again. I tried playing that and got bored after few hours. :lol

Final boss :p

Also the benefit of going beyond the class rank where you get new skills is the stat increase. You still get stat increases for each rank according to the job.

Just completed disc 1 a few minutes ago, and I don't really have much to add that hasn't already been stated numerous times. It's a beautiful game, I'm having a lot of fun and my purchase has been more than warranted.

I'm about 16 hours into the game. I just have one question; will I be able to continue the game after I beat the main quest, or does it end?

Fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

Goddamnit.

I'd just got started in disk 2 last night, when i managed to trip over the play & charge cable and completely scratch up my disk. So now entering certain areas provokes a DRE. First one i hit was the main hall in Lago Village, but i managed to coax that one back to life with some DIY disk polishing (aka attacking it with toothpaste). Unfortunately, playing a bit more has revealed that Jibral Castle is now nothing but one big DRE, and even after a ton of polishing I can't seem to fix it :(

On the upside, my disk now smells minty-fresh.

If the toothpaste method didn't work, try the boiling method. Dip the disc in boiling water for about 15 seconds & let it dry.
All else fails, rebuy it at Wal-Mart & return the scratched one back to them.

For someone who has completed the game:

After doing all of the optional stuff, how long is the end of the game? I put it off for so long and need to beat it by tomorrow morning. :(

I'm in the UK, so Wal-Mart isn't an option. Tried boiling now, didn't make any difference. Going to see if the DVD rental place around the corner can do disc repairs tomorrow, if not i'm pretty fucked :(

i'm pretty sure that you get like a 30 day warranty. you could try to claim the discs were like that because there's been at least 2 people from GAF that had scratched disc 3s upon opening their brand new games. i'm one of them.

So now that everyone's bought the game and played it for themselves, can we agree the BD demo MS put up is one of MS's biggest mistakes ever in the gaming realm?

Look at the ES thread, still so many people going "Yeah, BD demo was terrible so I'll never buy the full game". I swear MS killed their sales with that demo. :(

agreed. i dunno why they don't throw up another demo up there and just take the opening part of the game. who cares if it's 2GB if it gives people a better idea of the game? it certainly couldn't hurt sales at this point.

Yeah, I agree too. Didn't the Japanese demo start from the beginning of the game, where Shu was just lazing around on the windmill? I said it before and I'll say it again, MS should have put the first 30 minutes of the game as the demo(all the way up to the escape from Nene scene). That would have done a helluva lot better job then the demo that was given to us(thank god I stayed clear of the demo and just went on gut/gaf instinct). Hopefully they do LO right and do a proper demo. Or better yet, don't offer us a demo at all. That way there's no way they could fuck it up. Just show a shit load of CGI and that should get regular [read:non-internet/forum] gamers drooling over the game.

I also don't think they marketed it right. I think this game should have been marketed to the young pokeman fans and of Naruto...

I just think kids would love this game. Miss opportunity by MS.

I finally finished the game tonight. It took me about 51 hours. I'd say it's a 7.5 to 8 game. It's truly beautiful and very varied in settings and characters, but the story, dialogue, balance, and voice acting are quite mediocre at best. Frankly, I was so uber powerful by the end that it became an annoyance encountering any enemies, rather than it being the challenge it needed to be. And after so many of those, it was somewhat of a chore getting to the end of the game. Not even the final boss provided a challenge.

Anyway, it was a good, solid game, with tons of room for improvement.

Final nothings count: 1537

Edit: With regards to the released demo, yes, I'd have to agree that it was terrible. If I didn't have my mind set up to buy this game for certain, the demo would've definitely convinced me not to do so.

speaking of which, I just played the demo yesterday.

Is the framerate in battles really that bad in the final game?
It got to the point that game was almost in constant slow-motion with some of the shadow attacks.

I have to agree with you. Nothing on that demo interested me at all. In fact, I bought the game just because I started reading positive comments around, and I have to say that I'm really impressed with Blue Dragon (though it's a tad easy).

On the other hand, if M$ or any other company suspects that demos can hurt sales, I suspect we are going to see a reduction in the number of them. I prefer a bad demo than no demo at all.

I keep hearing people complaining about the framerate on the battles, and I have to say that I'm not yet experiencing that on my 360 (which is is two month old). The only framerate drop I have detected is when on exploration mode in the map world, but is more of a stutter than a drop.

What's going on here? I mean, I'm a framerate whore, and I can perceive the slightest drop, but I also don't believe that so many people are wrong about their perception. Something to do with hard disk fragmentation? With full caches? System overheating?

I just finished the game!
Did anyone else turn around before entering the final house to end the game and walk off in the other direction instead? I did and I ended up finding Toripo hiding behind a tree. When you talk to him he starts asking you did you enjoy the game and if you think the developers did a good job and then he starts going on about how hard he thought the developers worked! I thought it was a nice touch to put something like that there!

Sorry if this is well known, I have not read any of the blackned spoilers so I just though I would share.

it does occur in the game, but for me it's not even close to as bad as the demo yet. i'm only on the second disc though. in the beginning there was practically none, and then you start getting some small amounts.

its no where as bad as casting some of the spells in FF8 though. that was like a slide show at 2-3fps.

There is hardly any noticable slowdown on disk 1. But once you get to disk 2... The slowdown usually occurs when more then one shadow is present at one time, or if there are a ton of enemies. Funny thing was, I thought it was just part of the game for a while, since the slowdown occured during my shadows magic casting and the attackes were getting more powerful. But now I notice it more in other battle sequences. Its not really a deal breaker, since the boss battles are still somewhat quick. Just equip field barrier lv2 and up and you'll avoid needless battles. Actually, Im thinking maybe that's what the developers were hoping you do, since once you get to disk 2, the enemies are more frequent and easier to kill off.

It could also be my 360, since the dvd drive has been acting up(06' model).

I just finished disc 1. It's a beautiful game and I love it but is it just my game or is Zola's melee attack animation very choppy. It doesn't look very smooth compared to the attacks from other party members.
Her bat seems to come out of the ground and it stutters a lot everytime I do a normal melee attack.
This is just with melee attacks though, I didn't notice any problems with casting spells and such. Is it supposed to be this way?

First US numbers are in! 53k for three days on the shelves..

weird, 'cuz the site-that-shant-be-known said it was 100,000.

edit: and it's not like I care too much, since it's usually little differences, but a 50k difference is pretty wtf. (I wish "that" site was right, though: 100k for the win.)

53k was US-only (Canadian attach rate seems to be higher via MGC). And 'that site' counted 4 days. That'd put the numbers closer.

Either way, hopefully the game gets alot more sales via great WOM. I haven't talked to a single person that hasn't loved the full game of BD.

It'll be interesting if ES outsells BD. If it does, that proves that the demo killed sales.

I was totally disappointed with the demo it pretty much crushed the joy I had for the game. Then seeing the reviews from most online sites (1up, IGN, etc) being so meh I wrote the game off. Well that was a big mistake I picked up a copy the other day at Zellers ($39 for the win) and even though I'm only about 4 hours in I must say it's pretty fucking awesome so far and I'm very glad I picked up a copy (especially since the sale ended today) :D
