BO Wkd 06•16-18•17 - Queen is dethroned, all hail McQueen, ScarJo roughed up

Guardians 2 broke the curse, though!

I've got this theory that not only is superhero fatigue not a thing, but the very opposite is happening; the general disappointment of other Hollywood franchises is making people gravitate even more to people in spandex.

Superhero films - with VERY FEW exceptions - are fun films with happy endings. With all of the shit going on in the world, people just want to get away for a night and have a good time.

I'd pay top dollar (e.g. IMAX, multiple viewings) for an extremely dark, all Wayans brother adaptation of NeoGAF the Musical.

Bronson will be done in stop motion animation to better personify the American audience's disinterest in him. We'll add subtitles to his lines for maximum impact.

Can he be played by Andy Serkis?
No. The perfect person has already been cast.

Assuming that it is good, I think that Black Panther will be huge.

I think it's safe to assume it's going to be good.

I'd be willing to suggest that it's a really good possibility that by this time next year, it'll be generally accepted that Ragnarok and Black Panther are top 5 Marvels.

If not top 3.

Speaking of, I watched Hunt for the Wilderpeople on Netflix the night before last. I can see why Waititi got picked up by Marvel.

Agreed. I have faith in Coogler to deliver the goods. But you have a huge budget black superhero film releasing during Black History Month, with a predominantly black cast, with a fan favorite character (and yes, Bobby, I know that fan faves don't really mean shit in the grand scheme of things with general audiences). If the movie is even just average, it will do very well. But if you get Wonder Woman style reviews, it will be a monster.

And, like Wonder Woman, it is important that a film like Black Panther do well. Wonder Woman is showing that there is a huge audience for female driven films, and you can give big budgets to female directors. Black Panther will show there is a huge audience for predominantly black or minority cast films. You would think that the massive success of the Fast and Furious series would show that, and then the other successes like Straight Outta Compton, Hidden Figures (which also hit the female driven film nail too), and Get Out would show studios. But we shall see. We know they are not keen to learn the right lessons.

When historians look back at BO GAFs meteoric rise in popularity, what will be the turning point? I mean, we're 2-3 months removed from these threads having 1-3 pages a week. Now, 3-4 pages is a lock by Monday.

I now have enough time on my hands to hoist this community onto my uninformed shoulders.

It's usually more active during the summer BO season. However now that studios are willing to release more blockbusters outside of summer I can see these threads staying more active throughout the year.

I think that these threads are more active this year, even given the season. When people get behind a film, we do see longer threads though.

I am waiting for the day where we have enough regulars that I don't have at least a 10% share of the posts by Sunday morning before the new thread.

What happened to the Cruise Missile? The Mummy looks like it has fallen into Oblivion. It's not even on the Edge of Tomorrow. He should Never Go Back to the Dark Universe. :(

Few people would probably pay to see the GAF film. They would just pirate it then bitch about it on 4Chan and in YouTube comments since they weren't part of the film.

So we're going to see an influx of Nolanites next month? Do they still exist?

Annnnd this post will be cited as the reason for BO GAFs untimely collapse :p

They should get Cruise as the villain in the next Fast and Furious film.

Or maybe as the villain for when they finally go to space. Dom and crew trying to take him out before he resurrects Xenu.

Wait, is the internet over Nolan? He's made 8 films and every single one has an RT over 70%. He's never made a bad film.

And they have all made a lot of money. So he is critically lauded AND successful at the box office. That is a recipe for the internet to jump down his throat and hate him.
Maybe they are waiting for the slightest falter, then he will no longer be the chosen one.

Maybe.

I checked xaosslug's thread creation history (which is basically just the Box Office GAF history) and we have only had 2 weekly threads fail to hit at least 300 posts since December 9th.

We had 7 weeks under that mark in the same time frame the year prior. A year before that, it was 18 weeks under 300 posts.

So we are picking up steam. Yay for Hollywood stuffing the slate with franchise films I guess.
