The official statement regarding the Borderlands 4 Nintendo Switch 2 delay reads:

Greetings, Vault Hunters – We need to share that the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed. We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that. Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important. We will update you all on the new release timing once we've fully adjusted our plans.

In accordance with Nintendo's policy, all digital pre-orders to date will be cancelled. Customers can initiate that process themselves now, or it will happen automatically starting on Friday, Sept. 26. For physical pre-orders, please reach out to the corresponding retailer.

If it comes out when the game becomes more polished overall, this will be a good thing I hope. It's cool that they'll be adding cross save. I was hoping to get it on PC eventually, but I like having Switch versions of games for the portability.

No one buying a Switch 2 version of these games cares about Lumen anyway. Just release the game with solid performance and few bugs and people will be happy.

I wonder if Gearbox planned to use Lumen and it ended up fucking them over trying to get decent performance. They may not have designed around a fallback for the lighting.

Which is wild considering the art style of borderlands abso-fucking-lutely does not need Lumen, GI or any RT lighting really

What's the relation of your comment with this thread? 🤔
i think there are a lot of relations, relations that we have seen come up recently. In this case, more specifically is:

As this generation continues to mature (and devs start to adopt new technologies) which are already having issues to implemented on PS, PC. SW2 will become another Series S scenario. harder and more time consuming to support. So.... Late port or complete skips.

The issue with Borderland 4 is not only the Switch 2… Is every platform.

Why? I thought the Switch 2 could easily run any game the Xbox Series S could, according to some Virtuos developers.

This game has so many performance issues on PC their CEO had a Twitter meltdown and suggested refunding the game. The Xbox version crashes so it might be generous to say that S runs it.

Switch can probably run the game something close to what it currently is, but maybe they had a lapse of sanity to finish it before releasing it anywhere else.

When the game runs like shit on a 5090. And then that retarded Randy doesn't know how to shut his fucking mouth, then by default they decided not to release it on the Switch 2 to avoid getting shit on.

Gonna go out on a limb and say it failed certification on Switch 2. Chad Nintendo flexing.
They probably had plans to delay it for a while, they just didn't want the bad PR at launch. They were focused on shipping the PC and console versions while the Switch 2 version was on the back burner.

yes and now the team that was going to work on the switch 2 port has to go back to the other versions.

I dont know how well this sold but it was released into early access.

They need to add that premium content.

Good move if that game isn't ready. Still don't know if Nintendo dropped the ball with third parties or whats happening here.

But on the flip side if they tried to pass a piece of shit and it got denied, that's another issue entirely. Would be pretty typical of modern game development too.

Yep. All hands on deck to fix the game and then they'll work on the Switch 2 version. No new release date and punting Switch preorders says it all. Gonna be a while.

yea i heard there is this game called borderlands 4 that just came out and is a real piece of shit that people are pissed about

Gonna be a bad look for Randy (and Tim Sweeney) when id Software releases Doom The Dark Ages on Switch 2 at 900p/60fps with full RTGI.

These fine folks told me it looked fine, what happened guys?

Well it runs like shit everywhere. Hardly surprising they are struggling on Switch 2.
They significantly cut back the visuals on Series S and it still literally runs like an Xbox 360 game (720p, 30fps).
What are they going to do on Switch 2? Specially in handheld mode. Fucking 480p?

I'd imagine if they designed the game around Lumen they first need to implement some non lumen solution and make sure it looks decent. Maybe that's why it's taking longer.
Once they do hopefully they patch that in as an option on the other consoles too.

The game should have been delayed across all platforms, it was blatantly not ready for release on PS5/Xbox/PC

This. Who knows how badly this was running on the Switch 2 when it's a shitshow on all platforms. They probably don't want the PR backlash of releasing another broken version of the game while they're still struggling to patch the existing versions.

There's also probably an incentive to move it away from Nintendo's holiday lineup and into early 2026, after all the Christmas consoles are in the wild, and into a drier release period.

I mean, they both did, given how little PS5 Pro brings to the table for the asking price and the S2 is about on par with the Steam Deck.
The difference between Switch 2 and original Switch is bigger than PS4 and PS5 let alone between PS5 and PS5pro.

So to me Switch 2 is delivering exactly what is promising meanwhile some games looks better in original PS5 compare to PS5 pro.

Also 90% people who buy Switch 2 are not buying to play western first person shooter on it, they are buying for Nintendo games and original Switch success comes from first party not 3rd party western games.

The difference between the PS4 > PS5 > PS5 Pro isn't particularly great, so this doesn't mean much, frankly.

Which is why Nintendo cheaped out on it, using years-old hardware with modern tweaks to keep third parties happy... which they're not.

Doesn't make any difference Nintendo success comes from first party, that was always been the case....and to me as long as they continue release fun first party games I enjoy then more than happy.

Which I cant say the same for Sony since this gen they absolutely buttered their first party in my opinion.

This is why I have no issue buying Switch 2 because they are delivering on games I like, I wish Sony did same instead of wasting time investing on unless overprice Pro.

Shouldn't have taken the decision to release it on PC and consoles lightly if they really gave a shit about best possible experience for fans lol.

Look at what they achieved with DK Bananza on "cheap" hardware. GAF will try to deny and downplay it because it isn't some flashy photoreal tech demo pseudo-game, but the entirely destructible environments are more impressive and difficult to develop than anything that has come from the other guys this gen.

I mean in terms of performance and optimisation on Switch, maybe it wasn't up to par. Piece of shit, not the premium quality of the title itself.
