Need to see game prices along with hours worked.
Minimum wage in the US is 7.25/hr or 10 hours of work to buy 1 game.
How many hours must be worked to buy 1 game in Brazil?

O.....k? I thought Brazil paid a lot more than the US prices. So this is actually surprising for the opposite reason for me.

Regions like Brazil and Turkey have always had much cheaper prices (comparatively), hence they were always the hotbeds for VPN usage.

It's expensive re: local economy, i think. A Brazilian native can probably speak to that more.

On Jan 5th, 2025, the exchange rate from Brazilian real was 21 cents to the dollar. Today it is 18 cents to the dollar.

Playstation still hasn't raised prices in the US.

Nice try.

Based on minimum wage? 40 hours for a new AAA game.

Not always. During the PS4 era it started to turn around but until then the US prices were usually better. Steam prices were way better due to their regional pricing but it's not that different nowadays.

PlayStation Store games were being sold at $60 (BRL 359,99)

The $70 price increase is significant and tells me they will raise prices to all of South of America

I think, including myself, that people are starting to get tired of this situation and use tariffs as an excuse.

If they start with that, I start with a gamer PC or an Asus Rog ally x and I pirate the games.

May be games are cheap, but the console prices were bonkers. Perhaps it's all related to import duties.

DAMN YOU NINTENDO!!!
Being realistic, Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo hold meetings and agreements with each other. What is happening, as Nintendo is the leading company, raised prices coinciding with the tariffs, and suddenly Playstation and Xbox follow suit, it is no coincidence, everything has already been agreed.

Furthermore, another culprit is ourselves. We allow DLC, Season Pass, Support for anti-consumer policies, Early access.

Companies are only guided by money and many allowed it, that was when they had to make a voice with the Oblivion horse armor DLC.

I got plenty of relatives in brasil.
Console gaming fucking died for them around the wii.

They are really 100% into pc gaming.
That's why Brazilians are so highly skilled in meme crafting.

KEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKKE BR! Br!!

So just like how the PS plus increase started there, this will also be global.

Does every single money grubbing company out there insist on raping us into poverty?

I honestly don't get these sorts of moves by corpos in lower income regions vs US/CA/AU/Europe.

Aren't they basically killing console gaming audience in South America, Central America and Mexico with these moves?

One would think that considering digital distribution they could sell more games to folks if they cut game pricing in these regions a bit.

If they all have iphones and the console they can afford the games too

Most folks outside US, maybe CA (no idea) and Japan have Android. You can buy Chinese phones of decent quality for like $250-300 that will last a few years. Console is a one time purchase that lasts for 6-8 years.

High game costs in regions with lower labor pay will have significant impact on amount of folks buying that is already limited due to high cost of consoles.

But that's not how companies look at it. It could come down to them being in free trade zones sometimes. Those places are high counterfeit and piracy areas too. They take it all into consideration

Modern consoles aren't really hacked (yes, there is an old PS5 hack on really old firmware which won't run new games). So piracy concerns are overblown.

The high prices are basically going to kill off console audience in these regions long term and it's crazy that Corpos can't think ahead more than a few quarters.

This has not been the case in a long time for console games, regional pricing mostly apply to pc games, we actually pay more for hardware in general, which is very ironic considering how shit BRL is.

I don't even remember the last time I paid a "fair" price for a console game, I remember paying 1/4 of my first salary to buy skyrim, good times...

Console prices were always crazy for second and third world countries.

Going back to 200x in Poland, most people were getting less than 1000PLN/month. PS2 game was 200+ PLN, PS2 console was over 2000PLN...

No wonder that everyone was putting modchips into consoles and saving money or games.

Right now PS5 Pro is pretty much 1:1 with minimum wage, lol.

Not specific to Brazil but I paid $19.99 for the digital deluxe edition of BG3 when i .. uh .. visited Turkey... when that game's Xbox version came out.

Regional pricing for console games has been clamped down a lot now but as nearly as 2023, 2024, it was pretty low in some regions.
