Brazil PS Store Game Price(s) Increase - Ghost of Yotei Goes From R$349 to R$399 (USD $60 to $70 Equivalent)

Draugoth Draugoth

You said earlier that physical will be expensive, looks like some retailers are offering cheeky discount coupons on physical pre-orders. If you want to get it, probably a good time to do that before these coupons stop working.

Regions like Brazil and Turkey have always had much cheaper prices (comparatively), hence they were always the hotbeds for VPN usage.

It's expensive re: local economy, i think. A Brazilian native can probably speak to that more.
The average income here in Brazil is 3,200 R$. The minimum wage is 1,518 R$.

Games are very expensive here. Imagine paying almost 1/3 of the minimum wage for a game.

I'm not poor. This increase is practically pushing me towards Steam/PC.
If it goes to 80 dollars, I'll abandon the PlayStation.

It's partly the fault of the Brazilian exchange rate, which has depreciated (yes, you're not the only ones with political problems).
That's why prices have to be regionalized. These companies will end up selling less and earning less here if they force things too hard. Basically, they've already excluded all low-income people from Brazil.

More first and third party games have had their prices increase in Brazil as well, including years old games like TLoU Part 1 and Demons Souls.

The increase, which was only expected for September with the launch of Ghost of Yotei, ended up arriving earlier, but generally.

Several titles were impacted, including first-party from Sony itself and also games from third-party studios. The increase was also not just for new games, but also for older titles. According to the company, the adjustment is a response to "challenging market conditions", with the aim of compensating for exchange rate fluctuations.

"Sony Interactive Entertainment has updated PlayStation Store content prices due to challenging market conditions, including fluctuating exchange rates. As a result, Brazil has seen an increase in PS Store games and add-on content. Pricing decisions vary by region and are based on the current economic environment.

And thats why i cant play day one games anymore, R$400 (U$70) per game on a country that has a minimum wage of R$ 1500 (U$300) is crazy.

For comparissons a game here ( Brazil ) ll cost you 33% of the minimun wage while on the U.S It ll cost less than 10%.

They're paying $70 but their income is not equivalent to a US average salary. The average salary is around $500 a month.

This is why we need regional pricing.

Why does Brazil always get these things first? It's almost like Brazil is the test bed for these companies, lol.

MS also increased prices in Brazil for stuff last year.

I don't see the correlation?
Someone is selling something for X$. He wants X$ for it.
Why would he fucking care if that amount is a lot to one guy and not to another?

And increases in a country like Brazil don't make a whole lot of sense. Regional prices are a thing for a reason.

People using VPN to get cheaper keys can't have been that much of an issue. I refuse to believe your average console user was doing that.

That's cheap. 70$ games are 90-93$ in Poland lol

"The minimum wage in Poland is 4,666 PLN gross per month (around $1,085 USD, depending on the exchange rate) as of January 1, 2025."

That vs about U$250 in Brazil.

And rofif rofif we are shafted as well because our minimum wage is 1.085 USD while in Germany it's 2533 USD... And they have THE SAME prices for games.

Local prices were a thing on Steam as well, now we have one of the most expensive games and compared to wages we are fucked. But Brazil is fucked even more, prices are insane.

Why even bother releasing games in that region when only a small fraction of people will be able to buy them?

Even old PS4 games are getting a price increase. Killzone Shadowfall for God's sake...

Australian players react to this news (They are usually next on the list...)

Honestly, I'm not surprised by anything anymore, considering how everything is developing, I'm not even surprised by news about games for $90 and $100... it's all sad...
Prices are going up everywhere and in all regions, little by little, so that it doesn't really catch the eye. And for some reason, whenever there is an increase in prices, it usually hits South America, Australia or Turkey first.

Brazil is a test lab for everything bad because brazilians are extremely conformists.

The way os thinking of the average brazilian is "this sucks, but that's life". A whole country of people used to mediocrity.

Being realistic, Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo hold meetings and agreements with each other. What is happening, as Nintendo is the leading company, raised prices coinciding with the tariffs, and suddenly Playstation and Xbox follow suit, it is no coincidence, everything has already been agreed.

Furthermore, another culprit is ourselves. We allow DLC, Season Pass, Support for anti-consumer policies, Early access.

Companies are only guided by money and many allowed it, that was when they had to make a voice with the Oblivion horse armor DLC.
They arent this stupid.

Need to see game prices along with hours worked.
Minimum wage in the US is 7.25/hr or 10 hours of work to buy 1 game.
How many hours must be worked to buy 1 game in Brazil?
I went down this path some years ago and found out that exchange rate bros really are complaining for nothing. We're all working roughly the same hours to buy roughly the same shit. At least when it comes to gaming. They're still really sore about it. I imagine even reading this post will cause some grousing.

Here in Brazil the minimun wage is R$6.42hr, so It ll take you almost a full week to buy the same game.

"Fun" fact only 10% of brazillians earn over 5k (U$1000), 60% earn R$1500 ( U$280) and the final 30% beteween R$1500 - R$3600 (U$700)

Sony have raise prices in a lot of places. Europe and Japan have seen increases in the consoles for more than one time. It's not only Brazil, it's something happening in the entire world. But more important: what can people do? In the best case scenario a competitor would exist to put pressure in Sony, but there's no one to do such a thing.

Buy used (don't get digital only) and wait for sales.

Alternatively go to PC, you can put a decent one for about $1000 (in US) and play games by buying steam keys on key shops or steam sales.

And have some patience. There is no need to get that $80 game ASAP.

$94 for DS2 in Sweden.
$1000 for a PS5 Pro without disc drive.
It is what it is 😕
