I'm barely middle class. I don't pronounce my t's and I think say shit like "init" un-ironically.

I'm in a similar place, although like the article says, class is really all relative. I always considered myself working class, but it's when I hang out with other actual working class people that I notice 'oh yeah, I'm not one of these people any more am I?'

tbh I think education has more to do with the perception of class than anything to do with wealth. Read a few books, learn some long words and don't talk like a twat and voila, you have alienated the dolescum and factory workers you grew up with. I find I'm in a weird place professionally, working in a private school environment with legitimately quite posh people - people who use lower case roman numerals for the date own more than one suit, will wear a cravat without irony, when you say you in a band they ask "brass or woodwind?"

So I'd say I've become middle class by dint of education/employment/home ownership but I'm still the kid who went to Connaught school and grew up on a council estate. I just don't sound like it any more...

Oh wow that's really cool! How did you learn to do this?

Well, I started on this kinda stuff 10+ years ago and back then, there just wasn't the tools we have today. I use Adventure Game Studio (used for things like Gemini Rue) and although the AGI style games I make aren't by any means its primary intention, you can pull them off. Then it was just a lot of time teaching myself bits and pieces. I'm pretty terrible at art, but am OK with AGI (old Sierra, double width pixels) style so I go with that.

The worst is living in a block of flats and not knowing when they turn up, so you have to walk all the way down to where the little post boxes are and check every so often. And then if they couldn't fit it in (or couldn't be bothered) you have to somehow make it to the delivery office in the ridiculous hours they keep or wait until they're open late on a Wednesday for it.

I just get stuff delivered to work now. Then I can covet it while I'm here and wish I was home already.

There was a comic I used to love called Triffic and I think it only went for about 12 issues. Felt a bit more grownup than Beano and Dandy. I wish I had gotten into 2000AD as a wee'un, so many awesome creators came out of there.

I'd honestly have to read up on it. I mean characters eventually trickled into both the Dandy and the Beano in the end (I know the Nunskulls were originally in the Beezer and then went to the Beano, but checking out the Dandy's site it seems they've moved to there now). I used to have a few of big books where they printed lots of old comics so I am familiar with some of the older works.

Dandy now lives online so the Beano is the last of the old British children's comics.

Eugh this. Worst part about living in an impenetrable student flat. Sometimes they plain didn't bother taking up your mail from reception, and they closed at 4 so you'd get back from Uni with a note saying you had a package, and couldn't do bugger all about it. Luckily I was friendly with one of the maintenance guys, so he snuck in and got my copy of ME3 one time.

Yeah, they're ridiculous. My girlfriend works for Royal Mail and we had an argument once about whether postmen don't bother to take the packages and just drop off the notes saying that you were out regardless. I'd seen three separate accounts of it here on GAF, she said it wouldn't happen. I trust GAF over my girlfriend, apparently.

It's not a bad town really, same as anywhere else. Us Aldershites just like taking the piss out of it
