BritGAF |OT6| Dark Souls? More like Arse Holes

I didn't even know Disturbed was still going. Will have to check out the new album later

Obligatory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66gSvNeqevg

Do it.

Was a bit skeptical going into it. Even giggled a little bit at the beginning but then as the song continued I was like "wow! I'm moved! That was incredible"

Speaking of music, the company I work for is celebrating 25 years and I decided to take part in the music playlist selection committee.

My task is to pick 3 songs from the year 2007 and I'm kinda finding it difficult to pick 3 songs :( The year seems to be filled with Rap/RnB tracks but it's trying to find tracks that would be appropriate for an office party.

So far I got:-

The Way I are - Timbaland
Don't Stop The Music - Rihanna
Shut Up and Drive - Rihanna
Misery Business - Paramore
Roc Boys (And the Winner is) - Jay Z
The Pretender - Foo Fighters
Valerie - Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse

Notable omissions:-
Smack That - Akon
Umbrella - Rihanna
Crank Dat - Soulja Boy

Any 2007 tracks I missed out?

This ain't a scene - Fall Out Boy
How to save a life - the Fray
Ruby - Kaiser Chiefs
What I've Done - Linkin Park
Teenagers - My Chemical Romance
Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis

My three choices from that list.

I have no idea when music came out, I'm terrible with years, but looking at the "Top 100 Selling Pop Songs of 2007" on Google I choose these three. It's slim pickings that year like...

Gwen Stefani - Sweet Escape

My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade

Nelly Furtado - Say It Right

I meant the Top 100 Pop Songs list, not the year as a whole. It's an office party, got to play it safe innit.

That's the thing. It's a real fine line between putting on a good track that's kinda pop and putting on a pop track that's still not god-awful. You want people to have a good time and reminisce back to 2007. Shame that 2007 isn't THAT old because there doesn't seem to be any tracks that stand out to be as "Yup, that's definitely 2007" but hey, still got some good songs in that 2007.

Totally forgot about the Kaiser Chiefs and Arctic Monkeys! I suppose you can't go wrong with upbeat chirpy songs :)

Just popping up to say In Rainbows is great.

As you were.

Finished watching Seinfeld. I miss them all already =(

Started watching Nathan Barley. Missed it the first time round and it's a very weird programme to watch in the year 2015.

Nathan Barley was so far ahead of its time. Keep an eye out for Ben Whishaw and Benedict Cumberbatch!

Also, you have seen Curb, right? There's more Seinfeld right there.

I've seen the first series of Curb, years and years and years ago, definitely on my to-do list though since I have most of it on DVD anyway!

Gonna watch Nathan Barley and Flight of the Conchords first... so many sit-coms in the world.

I just tried to watch the first episode of Kill La Kill because I heard it was actually good (It's got 5-stars on Netflix don't you know). I say tried because I lasted about 15 minutes before it gave me an aneurysm. Super loud and flashy like it was designed for ADHD sufferers, awful art and those fucking voices man, argh! Why is everyone shouting or screeching? It's like TV cranked to 11.

Seriously one of the worst things I've subjected my TV screen to in years.

I then tried Attack On Titan as I'd heard similar good things. It was LOADS better to be fair, I actually lasted an entire episode.

But it was still shit.

Yeah, I tried ep 1 of Kill La Kill and it just didn't click with me. Do like the concept but I personally found it just distractingly fan serviced too much to the nerdy teen audience with all the skimpy clothing and sexual innuendos. Haven't tried Attack on Titan but it does seem popular. The cinema I volunteer at already sold out on tickets to the film version they're showing next month.

Most anime is awful so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

I say most, because Satoshi Kon's work, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and a handful of others are really, really good.

BGBW

Maturity, bitches.
Kill la Kill was an OK tongue in cheek show. Wouldn't personally recommend it. It has a lot of vocal fans though, but so does Sword Art Online and I wouldn't allow anyone near that show.

If you want a better show from Trigger (people behind Kill la Kill) watch Inferno Cop instead (That's an official YouTube stream so not illegal. Use CC button for the subs).

I just found out something that's half nice and half weird. A girl I have known since we were kiddle winkles (we're both 27 now) recently went on holiday with a guy she went out with when we were 17, 18 or so. They broke up years and years ago so I was confused when I saw these photos on Facebook. Turns out he's now super duper gay and they go shopping together, go on holiday together etc basically like he's a stock gay character from a sitcom. She has a boyfriend at the mo and man, that must be something of a mindfuck for him - the dude who used to bang his girlfriend is now on holiday with her, but he loves men. Like I say, part nice (that they can get over it and that) and part weird.

Yeah! Mush you rock!

Rehab's going well dudes. Had a stinker yesterday but it came on the back of two good days. In a row!

Indie games help. They're like balm for my souls :)

I did say soul but autocorrect so I left it. Given, you know, souls.

Also, does anyone else ever get that thing where you listen to Sleater Kinney really loud and then everything else seems amateur? Janet Weiss is just incredible, Carrie's guitar :-o, Corin's singing...wonder if they were male would they be more known?

I mean I know they're fairly well known by most musicheads but outside of that?

I've finished three games this week. I haven't finished a game in 18 months and now I finish three in a week, what am I doing with my life...

Destiny - well I finished the main campaign but that's not really finishing it is it? Great game, some of the best shooting mechanics I've ever played, probably going to give it some more time now I've finished other stuff.

9/10

The Order - pretty shooter with some decent gameplay, when they let you actually play it! The story takes far too long to get going (I actually assumed I was missing something by the halfway point it was that thin and underdeveloped) but it was quite entertaining by the end.

7/10

Dark Souls 2 - finished the main campaign and one of the DLC's, I might just put it down now though. Spent ages playing it and even though I think it's fantastic I think I'm maybe done with it. Plus, it is too hard man, it just is. I conquered all the obstacles in my way eventually but it just takes far too much time and effort and ends up being frustrating too often. Plus, the glitchy nature of souls games winds me up, cheesy clipping, geometry that is far bigger than the textures would suggest, cheap AI, etc. I love it and hate it in equal measure!

9/10

Other than Destiny I have GTA5, Far Cry 4 and Tomb Raider to play. I'll probably play Tomb Raider next.

Thanks for listening, you've been a wonderful audience.

Here:

When people say a Souls game is "hard", they're saying one of three things:

1) They don't like repeating the same part of a game over and over

2) They don't like when a game gives them a number and then takes it away

3) Either innately or because of psychological friction, that the first two bullet points instantiate in this player's brain; the player is impatient to such a near-total density that exercising patience is "hard," if not impossible.

Best Souls related article I've ever read (once you get past the opening). You might like it. Almost doubles as a strategy guide.

That is a good article, I remember reading it a while back. There's a similar one of that awfully formatted Tim Rogers site.

That said, DS2's hitboxes are pretty bad and the way it throws enemy groups at you willy nilly is a bit much. The souls games have never been about group combat except in specifically designed situations. Actually at times, DS2 felt like it believed the hype about the series' difficulty and wanted to ratchet it up. Still a good game.

Not really, I'm saying it's too hard in the fundamental sense.

Like how it's sometimes hard to find where you need to go next and what you need to do when you get there. (I regularly had to refer to a guide to progress.)

Or instakill attacks and traps that come out of nowhere and rob you of hard fought progress.

Or enemies that instantly break your equipment leaving you unprotected and open to attack.

Or the cheesy clipping that allows enemies to attack you through walls or straight through each other, cheaply only damaging you.

Or like how it often throws groups of 5 plus enemies at you all at once that can deplete your entire health bar in a few hits. (Hell, Dragon's Shrine throws 12 Dragon Acolytes at you on a staircase. Like, are you shitting me? I managed to cheese them by jumping across a gap and sniping them but still, fuck off From.)

The issues you mention about repeating areas again and again and the game robbing you of items or progress simply exacerbate these problems, especially combined with the poorly defined geometry and hit boxes.

I'm a big fan of these games, I've played all three for many many hours and I'll probably get around to playing Bloodborne at some point. But they're often difficult because they're cheap and poorly coded (and sometimes poorly designed) unfortunately.

War Peaceman

Bloodborne is the best designed Souls games IMO. It lacks the wealth of options right now that you have in DS but it is just a perfection of the design philosophies. Except the chalice dungeons. They are SHIT

Yeah, I've heard it's very concise and trims a lot of fat from the previous games. I think I'll prefer that to be honest. Never been one to read all the lore and scour every locale.

"Where do I next hit a monster with a sharp stick? Cool, I'll go there!"

Also, I've always played the Souls games as a Ninja/dex build which seems to feed right into the way BB plays. It's also probably why I've struggled so much, strength builds deal a lot more damage and can stagger enemies, must be so much easier!

Yeah, I was initially disappointed with DS2 but I very quickly grew to love it, flaws and all. It's probably my least favourite of the Souls games, but that still puts it ahead of most other games. The DLC is probably the best bit. I think I need to get this for ye olde PS4...

I've got Bloodbourne. Played a few hours just to see what it was like and take a break from my 75 hour MGSV run... I can already tell that it is probably going to be my favourite of the bunch. Side-stepping is brilliant. Such a classy game in every way. May dip in again tonight if I can pull myself away from MGS.

Damn game better have a katana in it though or I'll have a shit fit.

Ninja/Dex is more than catered for in DS2, just not in terms of damage. Pump your agility stat to between 100-105 and a shield becomes quite unnecessary, unlike DS1 where going without one is a death sentence.

Cheers sploat. Glad to hear rehab is going well. In the new year I am definitely coming up for a visit.

Thanks Mush. 3 more medical professionals today. I'm up to 16 different ones now.

Amazing! I'll be fighting fit by then I hope. :)

Indeed! I'm at a nice point to stop MGS for a bit, so I may start tonight but the way TPP plays is just so damn moreish. I'm gagging to play BB! SO TORN!

Glad to hear you're doing okay, Sploat. :)

Yeah, I have my Adaptability at 26 which puts my agility at 100. Apparently your iframes are pretty much capped there. To be fair I keep struggling to decide where to level up next, I have dex, end, vit, vgr and adp all soft capped.

I even started pumping points into faith and intelligence so I could use the Sanctum Crossbow, got it levelled to max and it's base damage is mint but because it has no scaling at all its still not as good as my hunter's blackbow. Bah!

I feel like my build and her gear are as good as they'll ever be, kind of kills my desire to keep playing, shame. I'll play it a bit more over the weekend, tie up some loose ends but then put it down for a good while. Maybe I'll come back to it.

Chz dude!

Wish I'd not digitally bought MGS. It's definitely a great game, it's just not my thing. I preferred Ground Zeroes, weirdly. I guess it was the political stuff that grabbed me.

I've got a fucking Velocity 2X addiction. I got so addicted to the first one, got the platinum and I can see it happening on this one. Got to get perfects! Got to go fast! Bullet hell! Twitch! Twitch! *left eyelid flickers*

Oh god. I downloaded Warframe.

It was free.

It made me look like a Guyver Space Ninja. It gave me a bow, throwing knives and a katana blade right out the gate. It said I could run up walls and slide along the floor. 4 seconds in I chopped some dude in half, ran up a wall and chopped another dude in half. It actually let me be a Guyver Space Ninja. It threw many words at me that I don't understand, but Guyver Space Ninja doesn't care. He chops words up with his Guyver Space Ninja sword while running up walls.

I'm 14 again.

It was free.
