Just came back from seeing a comedian live for the very first time, and I'm glad it was Nish Kumar cause he objectively made my cheeks hurt from laughter. Extra points for great jokes about terrorists ruining for us south asians and relating to Charlie Hebdo. His hand had apparently got glassed yesterday and made some jokes about how silly a person on the NHS 111 phoneline was for asking how much blood came out, measured in mugs. I'm impressed with how quick some comedians can make jokes. He was great at being able to pick out comments made by the audience and come back to them like one dude on the front getting a bit angry about the bar being shut to our right. Or working off the "counting sheep" response by audience members to "what is said about how to sleep if you can't", bit of improv, and being able to bring in "milk and wank" into all of it. His racial stuff was much more self aware and on another level than most other asian comedians like his visit to Isle of Wight with Romesh and being told by a comedy producer to do "correct" racial comedy. I can see why Stewart Lee vouched for him. The show is about "Ruminations on the Nature of Subjectivity" so like stuff about not being able to back up opinions in the Internet age because we don't concentrate on one topic relating to that
"Is Google making us stupid" article (he read it because he couldn't get sleep) with a genuinely unexpected and awesome ending.
Also, he had the same Casio old school watch as me so that's awesome!
Wish I could have gotten a pic of mine with his.
It's great and intimate in the Soho Theater basement, small venue with about 100 people and most comedians say that kind of venue is their favourite. I think we maintained eye contact for a long time
Can't wait to see this set be recorded for hopefully a DVD. Up next, Friday at Leicester Sq Theater with Jerry Sadowitz :O
