I don't know of anyone expecting Bungie to show a new project six months after their last one wrapped up; E3 was just too soon. But there is precidence here.

Halo 2 teaser debuted at X02, in October, one year after Halo wrapped up. This is X05, one year after Halo 2 wrapped up. I'm expecting something from them, and this 'tease' just reinforces that.
 
Maybe it isn't Halo 3? Perhaps a new Bungie game?

Lots of love for Dynasty Warriors 5 Xbox 360 too. Can't wait to see how Halo 2 is upgraded on X360. :)

I'd read the permanant team was over 60 now, but at the end of Halo 2 they had several contract employees as well as other MGS staff helping out. I think they were closer to 30 at the start of Halo 2.

I'd say 60 to 70 people. Including all admin staff and what not. They are actually somewhat small.

As GhaleonEB said, Bungie (and all of MGS internal teams in Redmond) do a lot of contract work. So they just bring people in for what they need done and then get rid of them after their work is done.

of course it will. most people are just interested in halo 2's backwards compatability. lets hope for 720p among other improvements

Yeah, while I doubt we'll see all of this, a Halo 2 with 720p, 60 fps, faster access (to avoid pop-in problems), and some anisotropic filtering would go a long way.

I actually played with two Japanese guys on Live. It's cool to finally see how they looked a like, a lot younger than I imagined!

Sony teased with MGS4 just before Xbox 360 launch. Microsoft will tease with Halo 3 just before PS3 launch. :)
 
I'd expect to see Halo 2 playable on the Xbox 360 and X05, as well as a teaser for their next game which should be Halo 3 similiar to the Halo 2 trailer shown at X02.
 
I don't think MS would jeapardize their PD0 hype by showing anything on Halo3. They need to focus on the near final builds of the launch lineup.
 
I expect master chief to be there, but only in a Halo2 360 capacity.

maybe it'll be like a Halo2: Subsistence or something for 360.

they'll start to build Halo3 hype later when they need it to counter PS3 launch.

It would all depend on how they framed it. I can see the overwhelming emphasis on PD0 for launch, part of the near-term focus. Then announce a few big games coming up the next year, ala Halo 3, Fable 2 (just making stuff up here), etc. Hype the launch, sell the follow-through.
 
Hasn't Microsoft already said that X05 is all about launch stuff?
They'll use the event to hype as much as they can the launch games.

Halo, at least outside of Japan, looks to have much larger popularity (hardcore and mainstream) over MGS. When esteemed media giants like the New York Times and BBC have articles about Halo, it's gotta be well recognized. MGS, while fairly popular everywhere, has its largest audience in Japan, IMO. How all of this fits into whether MS should show it at X05 is another issue.

For X05 i'll bet on " splinter cell 4" teaser for spring 2006 + Shadowrun and a couple of well know franchise ( motogp next or something similar ) + New teser for Gears of War

Big star for fps will be Mrs. Dark

Halo 3 Teaser is the big shot for E3 2006 ( along with a gta on xbox 360 confirmed :) )

Am I missing something here? We all know a Halo 3 is in the works and coming, so what's the emergency? You all make it sound like we're at the 5th year of the 360 and there's been nothing on this game. The system isn't even out yet, fucking hell.

I too believe Gates got caught up in the moment. Microsoft should give Bungie all the time they need. Hell knows they've been pressured during Halo and Halo 2. I'd love to see them actually finish a game.
No, this isn't a troll. Bungie is talented, but has not had the time investment they require to deliver a perfect game.
 
The Halo 2 trailer reaction was insane, it was in cinemas for gods sake. Halo 3 will be a circus.

I wonder if Gates was talking more about the general timeline for the Halo 3 ship and PS3 launch. Perhaps the internal target for Halo 3 is next fall/holiday, and Gates was assuming that's when the PS3 would ship.
Or he was talking out of his ass, one or the other.
 
I don't think there will be any Halo 3 trailer. I'm not sure that MS would want it to overshadow other lesser launch titles.

MGS 1 and 2 sold best in the US, as far as I can recall. 3 was different mostly because of launching around a GTA and a Halo title.

However, Halo 2 is absolutely polarizing the same way MGS2 was. Halo 2 came towards the end of a console lifecycle and alienated a lot of people who loved the first title for the same reason MGS2 did, being the furthering of the story past cut-and-dry, black-and-white, good-and-bad. I wouldn't expect Halo 3, when it comes, to do the same kind of numbers. They'll be BIG numbers, yes, but not H1/H2 numbers.
