Throwing my two cents in, the Photo policing is way more annoying than the large images. The mobile arguement doesn't hold any water with me as you can view this thread with images off as default on mobile GAF. You should be doing this anyway just because of the speed increase you get loading the page. If you see a listing you like the sound of, you can then open the image.

The same applies with the data arguement. The only other arguement comes from people with dialup and slow connections, but I'm sorry I do not think these people are a significant percentage of the community to be exclusively be catered to. Even if we do presume some are limited to dial up speeds, this is not a static position and hearing these complaints are getting increasingly ridiculous as time goes on.

Personally, as someone who lurks this thread reguarly, the photo rules have just provided a means for certain members to become self-righteous Berks to other members. It's not about what's good for the community as a whole, it's about getting to tell people off. Doubly so for the more hostile and aggressive posters.

Having an image there helps people see+want to buy things they might not have conciously wanted.
There's no easy way to make a thumbnail , it involves having to reupload etc. The current size restriction is a good middle ground. Also, if it could be 1 image per item rather than 5 altogether that would be better.
