Is the Steyr AUG assault rifle unlockable in MP? I just got the Light Machinegun and it's not the same one I had in SP. :(

I finally got to play some online with my friends and wow, I forgot how fun call of duty is online. I kind of liked the purity of 4 though. It almost seems like they added too much stuff. Maybe I'm just not used to it yet.

Also, PLEASE make it so I can get the new tags to disappear without having to go over every one. That always annoyed me.
All of the added stuff is nicely balanced, however.

I think they've added a lot of great options for the player to choose how they want to play the game while not breaking anything that I can see.

It is a bit much, but after a few sessions through you'll get the hang of it.

Played some regular TDM, is it just me or it's much easier to take a person down now.
I was laying out people across the map with my Famas with just the iron sights.
Its almost 1 hit kill in the game now.

If you're defending snipers, you're part of the problem.

PART OF THE PROBLEM!

Good point...I need to make more custom loadouts of the same build type with minor changes based on level. Not sure why I didn't think of doing this before, but I appreciate the obvious pointer.

...BUT SNIPERS SUCK!

Im one of those bastard snipers an I LOVE IT :lol

Coldblooded is one way to avoid them as I find myself tracking people via UAV more than I should, also flanking around the backs of them via obscure pathways at the sides of maps help. Ive had it where I marathoned my way around the side of the map, got behind their team and sniped the snipers, also got longer to line up headshots :lol

Nah, not at all. I've taken quite a lot of shots without dying. It all depends on what type of weapon and perks you're rocking.

You're using an assault rifle and most likely have the +dmg perk going on, right? Pretty lethal combo as far as raw damage goes.

Also the scene in the shower with the high corridors on both sides.

Yeah, thought about The Rock immediately after I entered that room. And also the green smoke as someone else mentioned. I was just waiting for a bomb to drop on us that would send us flying 200 feets :p

Sorry guys I know Im in the minority here, but the I think the SP campaign is nothing short of SUPERB! I found it more enjoying than even U2. I played and completed it in one 8 hour sitting and it was a completely satisfying rollercoaster ride. How any of you can say the SP is shit is beyond me. Totally worth the $60 just for single player alone!

Just my $0.02

hey Im with you man. But apparently U2 is the holy grail to some of these people all of a sudden like it was super metroid.

You have a point, as with MW1 as soon as I unlocked UAV jammer that's all I used and never stopping power. Its been so long I forgot all about that.

It's posted in the UK Sales thread, but I think it's worth a mention in the Official Thread:

MW2 officially becomes the biggest entertainment launch of all time (until 2 years from now) with 4.7 million copies sold (to a tune of $310 million) in the US + UK alone, in the first 24 hours.

Activision PR link here.

Is anyone else's PC version crashing after playing one match?
I can always get through the first match fine, but when ever I go to play the second, it crashes.

Multiplayer, btw. It runs campaign fine.

Please explain those.
favela chase sequence was reminiscent of the opening chase of casino royale.

gulag shower scene and green smoke at the end of Whiskey Hotel are from the Rock.

the estate is a mixture of Mark Whalberg's home in Shooter and the assault on the farmhouse about 3/4 into the movie.

The large downed plane at the end of Arcadia that you have to walk through reminded of the huge plane that crashes outside of Tom Cruise's hideout early in War of the Worlds.

I'm having troubles getting online, the game gets stuck at "fetching paylists.." and I never get the playslists :(.
I really want to try this game online so is the problem from my side or is it happening to others also?

I was worried about the Killstreak Rewards being overpowered, but it hasn't been too crazy as far as I've seen. The only thing that stands out to me is the Riot Shield. Not necessarily in a good or bad way, but just plain ridiculous to see in action.

Heartbeat sensor is completely useless in MP. It's refresh rate is way to slow to have any use in fast moving mp and it's just very vague. Guess it had a use in the single player, but for this games online it has no use.

I have seen people using it in Search & Destroy but I could tell from spectating in first person view it wasn't updating as fast as it should. People on the opposing team would be on top of whoever was using it well before they appeared on the sensor, and none of them were using the Ninja perk.

I've been using Sleight of Hand Pro, Cold Blooded Pro, and Steady Aim Pro. Sometimes I'll switch the second perk to Hardline Pro if it is near the end of a Sabotage game. The whole overtime thing is still kinda dumb the way you can just call in a Harrier to end it, but a win is a win. :D

I tried making a stealth class with cold-blooded and ran into the same problem. I just feel nerfed without stopping power. Unless I get the jump on some fools or get lucky with a head shot, then I almost always lose those shoot outs.

Oh, and for anyone having trouble aiming on the console, try moving your sensitivity down to Low. I know it sounds crazy, but it helped me a lot. I used to over aim and shoot a big circle around a dude but never hit him. Now I can get headshots from long distance with a holographic sight. I think having the setting to Low also forces me to play a bit slower which to me is safest way to play most of the maps.
I was so immersed during the few hours I played MP yesterday that I completely forgot about stopping power. I was just trying out the different pre-set classes before creating my own, and the two that I used the most didn’t have it as a perk. I was wondering why I was losing some of those shoot-outs – those people probably had it selected. I think it was good practice, in a way, to play without it for a bit… I didn’t do too terribly.

Also, I understand why low sensitivity works for some people, but I just can’t get used to it. It definitely helps for aiming, but I feel too sluggish to turn and respond when I see someone or am being shot at. It’d be different if there were some sort of quick turn option.

Multiplayer in Favela is good.
Singleplayer in Favela is a TOTAL FUCKFEST OF FUCK!
I only played it in normal, but I don't know what's the deal with Favela that people's talking about. I didn't die single time, and I'm just ok player. You just do the same cautious move that you do in multiplayer mode, and should be ok...

I am loving the heartbeat sensor. It is probably good for at least 2 - 4 kills a match for me. Its even better at the end of a match when you hear people crying about it.

Also, I've been using the holographic sight and like it, but don't get what the diffrence is between this and the red dot? does Holographic zoom a bit more?

Scar is a beast. If only it had a bit more ammo.
As a guy who just started, all these gadgets that higher level guys have put me in certain disadvantage. I don't have cold-blood or any perks unlocked to counter these. I'll be ok as I level up, but it'll give impression to noob players that the game is much harder with these disadvantages on top of being new and unfamilar with map and everything.

IMO, Veteran is the only way to play single player if you want your money out of the offline portion. It's just too easy on lower difficulites. I found the same to be with all the Halo games as well, the single player action is only tense and rewarding when you play at the highest difficulty and for MW2, this is especially true. Now that they have balanced out the grenade spamming and no more infinte spawning, I think Veteran adds value to the sp game and should be attempted by anyone who purchased it for offline play.

I agree, I have been playing on normal, and other than a few COD-esque cheap parts
Fuck You Rio
I have found it pretty easy, but is helping me get back into the swing of COD after not having played a COD game in almost a year. I will go back through on Veteran for the achievements and the better experience.

Its the COD-way, be a meatshield the first 10 levels then the real game starts.

Veteran is way too frustrating for me to play on my 1st playthrough. I think Hardened then Vet is the best route.

Man I am really liking this game but I do have my complaints.

I was on the roof of burger town trying to launch the raptor at the approaching enemies, but every time i get shot it brings me out of raptor screen, which is fine, but do my team mates have to say "Ramirez there's a guy on the roof" It's like ok, I'm working on something else over here, how about you help me out and take him out for me, ass. In the time it took you to tell me that you could have shot him for me, you obviously noticed him.

Your squad mates are always in the way, and they don't help you out at all, they just stand there and wait for you to kill everyone. While that is fun, it becomes annoying when I keep being taken out of the raptor screen.

I will ask again.

What stats are recorded in the multiplayer? Other than number of kills and deaths and the KD ratio, that is.

Some screenshot of the stats screen would be appreciated!.

The game is arriving home in about 8 hours, but until then I can't wait! :(

well I just started the game, in the first
snow level with that captain guy that gets caught. how the fuck do I free him?! he says stay there. If i go out they shoot him instantly, if I stay in they shoot him. WTF can I make something explode somewhere or what?!

frustrating. I don't understand what I'm supposed to do, never played this type of game before.

Peek your head out, and he'll tell you to go to "Plan B." Your character should whip out a C4 detonator, and the rest is self explanatory.

Does the game have an in-game brightness adjuster? Eurogamer article says you need to turn your brightness down on the ps3 version, granted their TV could have been miscalibrated. I don't want to have to adjust my TVs brightness, cause its perfect for everything else.
edit: and if it does, does it have one of those "adjust until the X is just barely visible" boxes?

Admittedly, I'm more more aggressive with my pacing, so I'm usually opening myself up for some crazy flanking in that level...but in general I'd rate myself as a pretty damn competent player (top 3 at the end of the match just about always, positive K/D ratios fairly regularly).

That level just had people hitting you from all angles with extreme lethality that it was just incredibly frustrating to have to keep dying over and over and over just to figure out where they were all hitting you from.

I probably tried to run through that level a little faster than the game wanted me to, but it's the game's damn fault for pushing me through the levels at a grueling pace in the first place.

Headshots, assists, your highest all-time kill streak, and total time played. It also lists your total number of wins/losses for all playlists. There may be one thing that I'm missing, but in addition to kills, deaths, and K/D ratio like you mentioned, that's pretty much it. :|

That's actually an interesting opinion to me. I'd like to know what it is about MW2 that you believe elevates it above those games.

I only say that as I thought Batman and Uncharted 2 were both MUCH MUCH better than MW2. I'm just curious, really. :)

well number 1, they took out the fact of the game completely being a war game through and through. I mean yea its war, but there were a lot of levels that were getting switched back and forth that wasn't like typical war. Pretty awesome. Then the war being set on American turf which hasn't really been done on any game really.

so yea, different locales, but the set pieces which includes the different locales helped formulate a different gaming experience which is original. I mean the general gaming concept is not original...as it shouldn't be cause the first one worked so well, why completely obliterate the formula and make a new game? but they did totally diversify it to where it never felt stale.

secondly, for instance, the terrorist airport scenario. If that wasn't pushing the envelope then I don't know what to tell you.

and little things like for instance, in I believe the second level? when you are climbing the mountain in first person. It's just little creative things like that, that give it a touch of awesomeness.

I mean there's more, if you want to hear more. but I mean, seriously, I just cant see how people can say they are disappointed with the single player or how the single player isn't that good. Like I said, maybe its cause I go out more to bars and clubs so I have less time for games, so when I do play a game it just seems that much better. Also I haven't touched Mw1 in literally like a year so MW2 feels completely fresh to me. I don't know. But Sucks to be those other gamers, that's for sure. rather be blown away then disappointed. :D

Hmm...I wish there were games that didn't keep track of deaths/kdr...Deters team play in objective games. Lots of people don't have the balls to go for the objective cause they don't wanna 'eff up their kdr.

Agreed. For a while I pretty much exclusively played War in W@W - that game will totally balls up your K/D ratio if you're actually pushing for the objectives.

Edit: Seriously? Ellipses after W@W becomes an e-mail address? W@W...is not an e-mail address.

Combine moving around behind a group of snipers with tactical insertion and you have yourself a winner.

I'm not enjoing Team Deathmatch very much. I "think" they used red and green to differenciate the teams...which is a TERRIBLE thing to do.

My color blindness near destroys my ability to tell the teams apart. Obviously the names don't show up over peoples heads at range if they are enemies but my eyes can't tell at close range and the map view with choppers is useless for me.

Instead I started playing regular deathmatch and had an absolute blast. Far more fun as the color matching game is out of the equation.

I've got one question about the riot shield (which I love) and this thread is long as balls, so forgive me if it's already been answered:

When using the riot shield and you press the RB (360) the UI changes. The edges of the screen are darkened, and your viewing area shrinks to a small circle. Other than that, I saw no other gameplay change, so I just turned it off again. Does this actually do anything?

I like how the riot shield, when not equipped and on your back, protects you from bullet fire. I dont know if it protects backstabbing too, but worth checking!

It does have those "barely visible" boxes, but they are totally broken. If you adjust the boxes as per the instructions, you'll end-up with a washed-out mess.

I believe that article is correct, bump it down a couple notches from default and the game actually looks superb.

I think that "barely visible" box is tuned to the 360's gamma settings and is extremely misleading on the PS3. I tuned mine to the boxes at first and I couldn't believe how fucked-up and flat it looked.

All is well now.

Or perhaps we've just been far more impressed by other games? The game had a couple neat moments like the EMP fallout and such but overall it was nothing more than a scripted cut scene your walking around in. I felt little connection to much of the going on in the game since it was just background fluff and it generally had no purpose other than being a cutscene that your walking through. I've been impressed with many games before like the first time I played Bioshock, moments in metal gear games, epic boss battles in a god of war game, parts of Uncharted 2, Gears of War 2 set pieces, but with MW2 I never found myself going "wow". COD4 had some impressive story moments I think that were much more profound feeling like the final shot, the nuking, etc.

All the COD campaigns have been mediocre to me, this one to me was one of the worst especially because the story telling was insulting like bayformers 2, it's all about the online play though, its what is addicting and keeps me coming back.
