Canadian General Election (OT) - #elxn42: October 19, 2015

That makes the most sense. What is interesting, however, is if you look at the LCBO, in my case, you walk into a store and they have isles, ads on the wall with beautiful photographs of bottles and smiling people enjoying a glass with friends, promotions of various brands.

Who thinks we'll see the same thing happen with pot once it's legal?

Or will they be like the early LCBO outlets that were designed to make you feel shameful.

I just wonder if we'll see L&MCBOs or will they create MCBOs?

Personally I think it'd be best if they tried to integrate with provincial liquor stores (where they exist) since they're already everywhere and have responsible well trained staff to keep sales to those over the legal age. Don't know how likely that is but that'd be great.

Is there a province that doesn't have a provincially run liquor store? I know NS, NB, QC, ON have them at least.

It's around the 35 to 40 minute mark.

I'm against TPP but realize it's a reality we will need to participate if US and Japan accept it, but a government that looks to re-negotiate is a good compromise.

The first instant when the TPP passed, he said he wouldn't even read it and just say no to it. His flip flopping should be taken to an Olympic driving board. But hey, ask any of the ndp supporters and he is just fine. But let's talk about lobbyists instead.

The LCBO union will probably demands a big salary increase for this.

They'll have to bring in and train an entirely new wave of staff just to administer the sale of it. I don't know if the LCBO stores as they are now will have the capacity to deal with the influx of customers. In Colorado, the pot sales have far surpasssed expectations, through retail outlets dedicated to it.

Again, this will create jobs. It should have happened years ago.

I'd actually prefer if it was sold by the LCBO exclusively, so that we might avoid a bunch of tacky weed shops popping up.

It would probably stifle the 'craft weed' industry like the LCBO already does with beer and stuff, though, if there ends up being such a thing.

Was getting caught part of your plan?
lol a Liberal supporter just booed a journalist who asked a Gagnier question then Trudeau lashed out at the supporter saying "we don't shoosh reporters who ask tough questions, we respect the work of journalists in this country""

Just saw the video of this

Was expecting him to be usually nice about it, but nope he was all like

and I like it

That's very problematic. I'm imagining a future election where say, Quebec and the Atlantic are voting NDP, and then a Red Tory in BC who's leaning Liberal panics and votes Conservative. Yeah, technically they can go on the internet and find it out anyway, but I'd rather it not be common and accessible knowledge.

I wouldn't be too concerned about that, realistically they would only have an hour or two to not only get that information, but drive to the polls and then wait in line... and really, by the end of the day if you still haven't voted, you probably won't.

Good for him! Fucking d-bag idiots booing a reporter asking a question? That's their fucking job. Thanks for posting this I probably wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Great, immediate reaction from him.
It's a nice contrast from Harper. Harper fanboys do this all the time and he just stands there with a smug look on his face.

Staged or not, that's very refreshing after all these conservative years (I can't believe I'm cheering for something that should be natural, but here we are).

Speaking of pot legalization, how likely is it to happen in the first term? I might be too cynical but I just can't see it happening any time soon, even under a liberal government...

I understand the cynicism but it didn't feel staged to me

Yeah, probably. But it's just too perfect of a response after what happened earlier this summer with "Mr. You're a lying piece of shit".

Knowing the question was coming, I would totally have staged it that way. ;)

Seeing all these people constantly speaking about "saving the economy", "balancing the budget", etc. yet being against pot legalization / nationalization sound so hypocritical to me.

Didn't need to be staged. Even if it was it shows JT cares about at least pretending to have more civil politics in this country and that counts for a lot after the Harper years.

I still can't believe the man wasn't kicked out of office for running attack ads outside of a campaign over and over and over. I mean who the hell does this shit? How is that acceptable? Why didn't we rise up in revolt over that evil nonsense?

What I don't like is how they claim to be free market economists, yet ban such a cash cow. They whinge about "big government", unless of course, they are that big government.

It really is mind boggling. We could be doing plenty of things that would raise a significant amount of government Income without even touching the tax rate and up until now its just been on the back burner or ignored all together.

Marijuana, Carbon Cap-tax-n-trade just being the two big ones which would bring in billions alone

I can just see the SAQ salivating at having their government run pot shops.

Colorado proved that it is a cash cow.

Provinces like Quebec, Ontario and BC will be going "it prints money"
Expect a thriving tourist trade in the border areas (at least until the USA catches up, but knowing them that could be a good while).

Every province other than Alberta has them. Alberta got rid of its monopoly a few years ago.

Is the general assumption here that the Liberals will win? I still think a lot of people are in for a very bad surprise on monday... I hope I'm wrong, of course.

It better happen fucking immediately. We need that tax money. None of this 2 years bullshit.

I'm expecting a Liberal win and maybe even a majority, but even if neither of those things happen there's no way Harper will be PM when Parliament resumes.

It's still a tossup really. Conservatives have very good vote efficiency even though not many people are voting for them. 308 still has them tied for seats, even if the Conservatives are very behind on the popular vote. Yay first past the post.

And that is half the battle. of course having to say 'Prime Minister Justin Kenney' causes bile to rise in my throat

I meant that we'd see at least an informal coalition and either NDP or Liberal leading a new government.

But yeah even if he won another majority Harper would have to make an exit. Kenney's too toxic even for the cons I think. Ol' Skippy is more likely to takeover.

Actually 308 gives the Liberals an 18 seat advantage over the Conservatives mostly because of Ontario now.
