Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 demo impressions thread

Just tried out the demo on PC, damn this is awesome. Getting some DMC4 vibes from it. Loved the first game on PS3 though it didn't run well but on PC this time around its so smooth. Preordered straight away.

Same, just bought it. I can tell the combos are going to be sweet, the default weapons have so much weight to them this time.

Those Kojima Productions guys are a secretive bunch.

Dammit. I can't crack this guy.

He's a true
Patriot

It is so good, Oscar is right up there in my book with Nobuo Uematsu and Yoko Shimomura!

In clearest terms I cannot comment on the status of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate on PC.

/PRmodeOFF

So Dave Cox Tweeted a picture of MoF HD running on a laptop around the time that MoF HD was getting released on PS3/360 last year. Take that as you will. I have no official news about the title on that platform, but you can guess there is something potentially going on. (Not the way I would have shown off the title... But...)

From my perspective, I can't tell you that something is happening, just in case of the event that it doesn't happen. I can't tell you something isn't happening, just in case of the event that it is happening. Everything available right now can only be taken at face value.
Paradox, Soul Reaver style, I like it haha

Can't wait to see what the Friday deal is all about.

Just played through the demo on PC and I really liked it.

I don't know why, but the Castlevania games look so incredibly smooth on PC. It's a shame most other games don't look as good running at 60 fps.

I actually liked the demo. Cool game and fun. I am not seeing the terrible PS3 graphics people were describing. The game looks good. Not sure I like how the enemies randomly hit me while I am performing a combo on them though.

Same here. I thought it didn't make sense in the context of what was happening at the time. Should have been left for a discussion between two characters or part of a larger monologue.

Yeah, that's really what I meant. The reference would have played much better in another scenario. It just felt so random and forced there.

Sorry pal, konami makes some baffling choices, like incredibly baffling, that's when they turn into klownami :P And don't shoot the messenger! Bergaron is a trusted source with 100℅ track record. If there is something more please tell us! We just want the truth.
Snitching to a konami employee probably wasn't the best of ideas..

Played the PC demo, because it doesn't show up in the psn.
The game suggest to use a controller instead of m+k,which seems weird to me.
Mouse seems like a much better option for the camera.
The problem is pretty obvious.I use the right thumb to attack, left to move and control the camera with...my tongue?

Besides that I really enjoyed the demo.

Yes, hence the "snitching to (tora)."
If Tora legitimizes what bergaron said about this then he's legitimizing what he said about the LoS prequel coming from another studio for next gen and the next portable Castlevania made by the japan team... I wouldn't do that.

In other news, I still find heartwarming when a classicvania fan plays and likes LoS :)

On second thought, hold your horses. That's a lot of jumped assumptions. And "Klownami"? That's uncalled for. ;_;

I don't think what you think is connected is actually connected. Almost had me spilling beans.
I honestly kind of think giving that game for free with it is TOO good of a deal anyway. It's a year-ish old 3DS game that was sold at $40, when you're generous with stuff like this you offer older games, like the first Lords of Shadow.

I agree that the deal was probably too good, but in exchange of the whole delay and stuff we got $6 bucks. It's a case of extremes.

I'm one of those folks. As much as I would like to see Castlevania go back to its roots, LoS I've really enjoyed as a whole. I do wonder where Castlevania will go after LoS2.

So... how's the PC version of MGSV coming along? I might buy Castlevania 2 on Steam right now, but that depends on your answer.

I'm buying this game regardless.

I'm still waiting for the rest of based TTP's prophecy to come true-- that MGS TRIOLOGY was coming to Steam.

The combat system has potential.

I liked how every attack could cancel into a dash and that you dash down from a jump.

I also like that they changed the GOW "hold triangle for rising attack" to "attack then press jump"

It does feel the combat moves may be more limited this time round, even with 3 different weapons, but I'll reserve judgement on that for now.

However :- Tying weapons to meters is an incredibly bonehead decision. I already hate it with a passion.

I will pick this up. Interesting to see where it goes.

Preorded on GMG for $41. Very great deal. Having those who played the demo and loving it is fantastic news. My only regret was not getting second son instead, but LoS was fantastic to begin with. Not perfect, but any improvements are more than welcomed.

Die monster. You don't belong in this world! -point-

Sorry if I'm not into these type of ambient soundtrack, that's just how I am. I hold the 25 years of Castlevania music pretty high, so it makes everything even worse.

Of course, there one or two exception on this soundtrack.

You're entitled, but everything I've heard of the OST so far makes me think that barring a dramatic drop in quality it'll be my favorite since SoTN.

Also, did you listen to the whole track? I wouldn't call it ambient.

Yes, I listened. Pretty weak melodies overall. The renditions of Dracula's theme are the strongest music there, really. In fact, many music on this soundtrack are variations of it.I like the first battle theme too.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll work while playing the game. I'm just saying that I'll forget it completely after I finish the game. Which isn't the case for any other game on this series (except the mobile Castlevania, that shit sucks).

Do we know if the weird pixelization and difficulty in seeing when enemies are attacking are due to this obviously being an old build? Pixelization isn't too big of a deal, but hot damn it's hard to sync my blocks.

Bergaron probably shouldn't be leaking internal discussions with first party, IMO. Now I have to get our PR involved. :\

I don't know who this Bergaron guy is but thanks for the confirmation. Maybe you should turn yourself over to PR while you are at it.

Played on PS3 and overall it was a lot of fun and looked great. Love the throw back to SotN. The only issues I had is during the platforming parts on the golem, when I pressed the direction to go there always seemed to be a hesitation that cuased me to die way more than I would on something as eaasy as that.

That shit sounds horrible. Damn I'm glad this composer won't be working on any more CVs. I hate just about everything he's put out so far.

You found this bad??? It sounds amazing!! I LOVE the score of this series.

------------

Played the demo last night. Absolutely loved it. Didn't finish it, didn't need to. Day 1!

2 complaints:

- free camera sucks. Wish it was locked like LoS1. At least during combat.
- The "What is a man..." line plug felt pointless and had no context when he said it. Just a shameless fan service plug. (Lol, funny that just a couple days ago there was a "But enough talk, have at you!" plug in a Valentines Day quest in Final Fantasy XIV.)

In the first game you could cancel attacks into a dodge, and there was no hold triangle to attack and then press jump move. You could simply tap either square or triangle and then press jump to lift enemies with you. You could also drop down from a jump, although it was straight down and fairly limited in use.

As awesome of a soundtrack that SoTN has, it definitely wouldn't fit on either of the LoS games. It also seems like more often than not, the music keeps getting compared to what it's not, instead of judging it for what it is.

It's just sad that a team so obviously talented is let down by bad direction. I think everyone here would have taken a great 10 hour action game instead of a 20 hour bloated mess with bland environments and poor stealth/platforming segments.

I really liked it. Some of my friends are saying that the game is gonna suck based on the demo because they didn't like it. I dont get what to not like. I think its gonna be good.
