I think you mean Golden Playhouse, but I agree, and while I'm only up through 4-1 so far, I was actually thinking that regardless of what happens in this particular game's story (Catherine), the narrative device of Midnight Venus and the Golden Playhouse would be an excellent way to frame other, completely-unrelated-but-thematically-consistent entries in a "franchise" of sorts. Just like how Catherine opens with the show-within-the-show that is Golden Playhouse, so too could a "sequel," even if said sequel has none of the characters or settings from Catherine. You would still have Midnight Venus introducing you, the audience, to a strange new tale of wonder and horror, and then the game itself would have the amazing action-puzzle/social simulator structure that is the game's DNA. And, of course, the same fresh style and sense of "warmth" radiating from every character and environ in Catherine. They could also have even more all-new arrangements of public domain orchestral classics.we.are.the.armada said:I hope Atlus keeps this Golden Theatre series going because this is probably my favorite game of all year so far.
Read? I just said I got none of that in this game except for some good music (should've been more original songs in it though).FateBreaker said:What have you ever wanted to gain from a game other than enjoyment, better eye-hand coordination, and possibly some great music and cool stories (which, by the way, Catherine has all of)?
A sequel could have its own iconic one-word title (well, it doesn't have to be one word), and then it could say on the box, "A Golden Playhouse title" and "Spiritual successor to Catherine." Then the game itself would boot up with the same cartoon montage and Midnight Venus intro as Catherine. I definitely think making any Catherine sequels like new "seasons" of the Golden Playhouse TV show is the way to go. (But I reserve the right to revise my opinion once I see how Catherine's story concludes!)Korigama said:To be honest, I'd rather they use it as an opportunity to explore other gameplay types, instead of restricting it only to puzzlers (such as an adventure title, or perhaps an action RPG in the vein of Raidou Kuzunoha), while maintaining social elements, but the idea of new stories under the Golden Playhouse umbrella as a means of creating sequels instead of remaking the same game over and over sounds interesting.

Also, anyone else thinks Katherine is one fucking oversensitive harpy? She can never take a joke and oscillates between overly concerned and pissed off. Also, once she finds out she's not pregnant she dumps Vincent like a bad habit. While Vincent certainly isn't a saint by any measure, doesn't that show that she was only going to marry him because she was carrying his seed? I mean, she didn't even have evidence that he was cheating!

At least it's interesting. Well, it was for me.BlazingDarkness said:Anyone complaining about pacing needs to play Persona 4, takes like three hours before you have full control over your character, longest intro scenes ever
I'm sure Atlus could find a way to make a whole new game with new implementations of similar ideas.Nora Kisaragi said:They pretty much covered everything about relationships in Catherine.except the hardships of being gay (erica doesn't count)
Yeah I got really far in that game and then my PS3 YLOD'd and I lost my save. Since then I've had a few attempts to start over and haven't made it through the intro part.BlazingDarkness said:Anyone complaining about pacing needs to play Persona 4, takes like three hours before you have full control over your character, longest intro scenes ever
FFXIII is even worse. 30 hours before you get out of the intro tutorial... 8DBlazingDarkness said:Anyone complaining about pacing needs to play Persona 4, takes like three hours before you have full control over your character, longest intro scenes ever

The game's story makes sense when you get to the end. That's what I meant.Yoshichan said:What... was I supposed to gain from that?
What a game. Just, wow.
And not in a positive way btw.
Yeah, I definitely forgot what we were talking about But yeah it made sense in the end.LiK said:The game's story makes sense when you get to the end. That's what I meant.

EDIT: Double post. Sorry!
jorgeton said:It's a puzzle game where you move blocks around to climb a tower that is constantly collapsing underneath your feet. It's a lot like intelligent cube, if you've ever played that. Each stage introduces new blocks (exploding, ice, etc.) or challenges that you have to figure out how to work around in order to make it to the top.
The other part of the game has you walking around a bar and talking to folks and exchanging texts with the K/Catherines.
It's like playing through a comedy/horror anime, where the "game" parts are the block puzzles (which are fun once you wrap your head around the physics of the world).
