I'm on the fence about it. I understand what you're saying and the danger of setting government overreach as a precedent due to this. On the other hand, this is such a volatile situation. There's more violence just simmering below the surface and people, who are in a position to reach millions, are acting irresponsibly and fanning those flames with misinformation based on their set in stone beliefs (not facts). Kimmel was in this position and instead of acting responsibly - he actively chose to spread misinformation which predictably aggravated many people who heard it. He did this on a platform given to him by someone else too and one which is regulated by the government.
I don't want to see the government clamping down on free speech but I also don't want to see ignorant people being fully free to incite the public on major platforms like TV networks. It's a tough situation all round, really.

a) that wasn't the only information about him at the moment iirc. The phrase is constructed in such a way that it can be read as "the maga gang acts this way because the shooter was one of them." and linguistic gymnastics are irrelevant when (already offended) people would read (and read) it like that in real-life.
b) true, but he chose the very wrong time and language for that. If they'll close "The View" then I will agree that Kimmel's case is about the suppression of free speech and not about calming the situation.

It's a tricky situation because it's not only about what was said. But who said it and how it was said.
If a newscaster or opinion guy on CNN or Fox said in a serious way false accusations or people should go get that person, how does that relate to a comedian who could say the exact same thing on stage?
In both situations, the viewers can turn rabid and go nuts. Just because one guy is a comedian doesn't mean all his viewers treat it as harmless laughs. Some of them might go gonzo too. In fact, a popular celeb saying it might get more viewers than a boring guy on news saying it. So he might get people going ape shit more than a guy wearing a suit and tie saying it on MSNBC.
I think it's got to a point, the FCC wants to try out more blanket policies to cover all bases since (like any gov setting rules in sensitive times like Covid or whatever) they got no time to dilly daddle being flexible analyzing each instance because a lot of stupid shit might slip through the cracks.
When cooler heads prevail, then (like Covid protocols) the gov can ease up when the situation normalizes.

The man did not properly coordinate with TPUSA or USSS, failing to alert them about his presence.

It's all performative, from both sides. There are some that genuinely care, but most don't because most didnt know him. This goes for the countless deaths, atrocities, and unjust actions that happen everyday, we go on living without a second thought. Charlie wasn't more important than the next person other than to his followers family and friends. 99.99% of those who did speak about it, did it specifically so they could be seen speaking about it.
Point being, performative mourning doesnt determine how decent someone is. Someone genuinely being an ass about it can give you some insight into their character, but Charlie was not without controversy, so it comes as no surprise that some will use the tragedy to antogonize others, this is just the state of our fucked society.

The press has lied and covered for certain groups for decades. That IS being an enemy of the people because it's pushing an agenda, not the truth. But Trump trying to control the press is also not right.

I agree with him for the most part. The media uses euphemisms for people they don't want to place negative public opinion on.
They withhold information or just don't report on certain things and when we see said things blow up and they cannot ignore it anymore because doing so would be leaving money and credibility(lol
) on the table.I trust news as far as I can throw it. Which isn't very far at all. COVID was the real eye opener, everything else comes as no surprise.

The FCC tweeted. ABC could have told them to pound sand and fought any actual censure in court. They didn't because Kimmel refused to tone it down, and he is simply not worth defending. The dude is a loser shit stirrer with an audience smaller than Asmongold.
The only negative is that the entire situation brought attention away from the thousands of purely evil leftists that were supporting of political assasination. The focus should be on these people.
