Charlie Kirk assassinated at Utah campus event

And just like the roman empire, the ancient greeks etc it all started with a few weak men trying to simp for some spinsters by giving them power that they should never yield (the vote).
Exactly! History has shown that all empires crumbled from within. Those who should never have power are given power and with that power they brought nothing but decay, filth and suffering. Sometimes I wonder how bad Sodom and Gomorrah really was for God to destroy it. Surely couldn't be worse than the world is right now

How many in that case compared to this? I bet it was a 0.00001% of the number of bad responses that in this case.
Seriously? It was pretty brutal and even coming from public figures. (Trump, Kirk himself and others in the right wing sphere)

Neither that or this is a justifiable reaction.

When you add in usually unacceptable it's pretty much the same amount that believe it's broadly unacceptable/acceptable (D71/11 vs R89/6). Just Republicans are more black and white, either because that's part of what makes someone Republican or by the circumstances when the poll was asked

You can say anything about the right but if some really big leftist person was killed as horrible as in this case the response would have been much more respectful. You would find some idiots saying stupid things but not at the same level as this... the left really is the party of the insane.
3 days ago, the President of the United States shared an AI video mocking the hammer attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband, from his account. I don't know man, both seem pretty insane. I don't think either side could win the "your side is worse than my side" debate.

I was going to point out that it's really saying that 71% of dems think that it is usually or always unacceptable, but then it's still a large gap. probably there's a lot going on there w/ age. i think young people are probably more flippant about these things. it certainly does not paint dems in a good light.

But then one has to ask why these statistics matter when just every dem politician has condemned these attacks, vs like the attacks against Paul Pelosi and the state senators were treated with jokes by the GOP. And to frame it as a problem on the left when we don't know the motive of the shooter i think gives the game away. People want to be mad at something and perhaps it's uncomfortable to accept that the last two major attacks on politicians (Trump's shooting and the minnesota attacks) have been by conservatives.

If you haven't seen the video yet, please don't. It's like super disturbing. Must have been a huge shock to everyone there and really messed up.

One crazy thing is that Donald is already calling this out as an attack from the left and somehow the left's fault without even having caught the killer. That is just insane. You are literally a president of the ENTIRE country and you decide to make this an us vs them thing without even knowing any of the facts. Get ready to have your liberties and rights eroded. Can't believe the executive is using this to potentially grab even more power.

People saying that Kirk only has himself to blame for the things he said reminds me of how in Sweden an immigrant was murdered by muslims after having burned the quran and spoken up against islam. Many Swedes blamed him for his death.
Or people blaming the rape victim because of how she was dressed. "She was asking for it".

Gotta grab an opportunity as soon as it comes along.

I certainly think there's reasons to worry about that.

Where is the advocation of political violence?
Sorry I should have said that he made light of the attack on Paul Pelosi. He was just cracking a joke here about how the attacker was a patriot. I wrote something that wasn't quite right; I take it back that he was advocating for violence here.

One thing I've changed my opinion on within the past year is the censorship issue when it comes to social media. I was never a free speech absolutist. Because frankly, some speech on social media should not be allowed. I mean we see it on this very website. There are just people who bring the entire experience down for everyone and getting rid of them makes the community objectively better for all. I'm talking mainly people who harass, people who make threats, etc. But I did say that while I am not an absolutist, I am for allowing most speech. Even speech I find vile. Like mocking the death of others and such.

Within the past year, I've changed my opinion on that. The argument for it is "We need this speech to be brought into the light and exposed. So we can find out who you(the ones with vile thoughts) are." I've come to realize that I was pretty naive and idealistic feeling that way. The unfortunate reality of social media is it has allowed a lot of mentally ill and violent people to congregate and form communities. And they all feed off each other's madness. And whether or not the shooter of this particular crime was within that community remains to be seen, but it doesn't matter. There is a simmering going on within the bowels of social media and if it continues at this pace, eventually it's going to explode. Whether it's one year, five years, ten years it's going to eventually get there. And knowing what "BlueCat98341" thinks about Charlie Kirk or Donald Trump or Joe Biden or whoever else is not going to prevent that from happening. We've created a monster and I think society would be far better off if these kinds of people were kicked off of social media and sent back to stewing in the corner of their bedrooms to themselves instead of feeding the rage and fantasies of others. You're always going to have deeply mentally ill people beyond repair, but some of these people would be so much better off if they were forcibly taken offline. If that's even possible at this point. It might be too far gone when it comes to technology and access.

This poll was also performed immediately in the aftermath of a republican celebrity being assassinated. Ignoring the twitterbots (which we shouldn't) there is bound to be some pushback to the idea of political violence when one of their own was just publicly murdered. Now I'm just speculating, but I would bet that if this poll was performed at a different time, we would see some movement in the results. I wouldn't go as far as saying the democrats would outnumber the republicans in the unnacceptable category, but the timing is absolutely effecting the results.

edit: I would like to see a poll that measures the attitude surrounding the idea of a civil war between parties. Of course, these recent events would effect those results as well.

People, including Trump feel the 10+ years of "the right are literally nazis and a threat to a better tomorrow" and unfair mainstream media coverage created an environment where people like Charlie Kirk were viewed as threats/bad people (and many left wingers are celebrating his death) that needed a righteous force fighting a just cause to stop them, which got us to where we presently are.

Shame that Charlie Kirk was an advocate of political violence. Hope people don't follow in his footsteps.

Edit: my framing here wasn't quite right. But the quote speaks for itself.

Not really.

I'd need to listen to the full podcast to make a judgement. For example, has the quote been taken out of context? What was said before/after? Was it a tasteless joke? Where did Kron 4 dig this from and why post it now? Is Kron 4 politically biased?

I'd honestly need all the above answered before making a judgement.

That's not even close to being comparable to saying you are happy that a person was shot on live tv and hopping that the same happen to other right wingers...

Those people are a problem, but they are also not representative of the whole people group they are apart of. The same can be said about bad cops, racists, anarchist, and pedophiles, that being the actions of those individuals don't represent everyone in the group they are apart of.

I did look up the full context of the quote. He goes on to say that the attack was awful, but this is an empty gesture because he's basically making light of the attack in the same breath. I think I was 100% wrong to say that he was advocating for violence here. It clearly was not his intention, when I got the full context.

He's saying that people attacking democrats (with hammers) are worthy of the support of fellow patriots.

Weird, the words in the quote make it seem like he is saying someone should bail him out and ask him questions.

And 'fellow patriot'? Where does he refer to the person who was arrested as a patriot?

How is it that in all of these examples supposed to show how bad he is, you guys always have to change the words he actually said into completely different sentences which mean something else? You would think the words he actually said would not need rewriting into leftist fan fiction if they were already bad enough by themselves.

Your side already literally assassinated the guy, is the character assassination really necessary too?

What's not even close? The absolute disgusting reaction from both sides to political violence? Both is abhorrent and divisive.

I'm sorry that you believe this with no evidence so far.
It was very concerning to see so many "leaders" immediately condemn and blame a people group without any evidence. Even if it turns out to be an individual who identifies themselves as 'left wing', it's a terrible example to set with very broad and potentially dangerous consequences. That isn't even taking into account they are blaming an entire group of people for the actions of an individual.

It's obvious. The Hitler rhetoric has been thrown around ad nauseam. I wouldn't be surprised if the go-to stuff was written on the bullets.
It was also obvious that the Democrats killed or maimed in Minnesota were attacked by the far left and that Pelosi's husband was attacked by his gay lover.

The number of people saying bad things in each case. Thats what I'm refering to... the number of people... MUCH higher in this case....

I wonder how much of the likes and algorithmic boosting of the nutcase tweets making half-hearted "well he was really controversial" claims or outright celebrating this is not activity. Xitter is infested with bots boosting or posting the most inflammatory things. Why not on the other end of the spectrum?

If the guy turns out to be like an anarcho-primitivist vegan lesbian, i would say that he's not actually not on my side. This is so childish.

But the hundreds of thousands who are cheering are. And that's the biggest problem here.

The killer could be a furious lover or a childhood friend. A lone wolf doesnt really matter. This case has exposed something much worse, that half the society roots for the death of the other half. If that's not concerning, I don't know what is.

That's why several presidents have addressed the matter.

When that group of people is openly celebrating the success of their attack and calling out who they want to be murdered next, it is appropriate to blame the group.
Such faulty logic. These are still individuals that don't represent the whole (even if it multiple individuals). I'll give you two examples: 1. Anarchist are considered a part of the left, do they represent the ideology of a bog standard Democrat?

2. I saw praise for the killing of the two Democratic representatives from Minnesota and for the attempted murder of Nancy Peloski's husband, does that mean "Republicans" are to blame. In both cases, the answer should be no. You are literally falling for their trap, that there is 'us' and then there is 'them'. To be clear, there is only 'us'.

If wherever you get your information is telling you that half of America is responsible for all your problems, you need to find another place to get your info. It's one of the easiest ways to determine if you're listening to news or propaganda. This goes for whatever side you are on.

Er.. that never happened, hell if you believe that then you may as well believe the absolute nonsense of how bad the entire planet was that the magical sky daddy decided to drown every living thing apart from the Kangaroos that managed to get all the way over from Australia to a wooden boat and then make it all the way back to Australia...

That video messed me up real good, and I've seen really gruesome stuff. But knowing who the guy is, I guess makes it worse.

When almost the entire left is celebrating that he got shot, minutes after it happened, you can not blame people for thinking is an us VS them scenario; because they are acting like they always wanted him to get murdered.

This is a guy who made a living partly by assassinating the character of innocent people who got killed. When anyone high profile dies there are people talk about the bad shit they did, I don't see why Kirk should be off limits.

Fuck Biden. He should have been the nom in 2020.

And also 2016.
It always amused me that you had a perfectly good man with actual fucking principles who wanted nothing but the best for the ordinary working man and woman and youse all painted him as some sort of socialist monster and then elected an orange monkey to rule over you

Edit: my framing here wasn't quite right. But the quote speaks for itself.

Quote his next couple of sentences. He said he didn't support what happened and his point of asking why he wasn't bailed out yet was because democratic DA's and judges release violent criminals all the time with desk appearance tickets etc. look what happened to the black dude that just stabbed that Ukrainian girl? He was arrested like 13 times and still allowed to roam the streets.

Yet when a democratic politicians family member is attacked, the guy gets the book thrown at him.

These people don't give a shit about the general public. They'll let murderers and rapists free but god forbid someone attacks one of their own, lock him up.

It's really sad how far critical thinking skills have gone down the drain. No one bothers to do their own research nowadays. They think they know everything after watching an edited clip or sentence taken out of context.

Crowder just reported what the internal email/memo said, which the outlets also later saw for themselves and reported. Those other outlets obviously did not report it based on Crowder's reporting; they saw the same memo he did. The memo might be wrong, but those outlets didn't all make up the same thing.

For sure it's nasty. Similar to how people were mocking the Democrat and her husband shot in their bed or when Pelosi's husband got beat up, or how people were salivating during the insurrection to see some people get hurt or hanged. Some people are pretty nasty but I wouldn't interpret that as the general population.

I would also say take stuff with a grain of salt, there is little credibility on the Internet and foreign actors take advantage of situations like these to sow division. Probably a lot of the posts of this kind on both "sides" are just manufactured. It's just upsetting to see Donald make a bad thing worse.

This is tangential but the company I work for deals withtons blue collar white guys they are the majority of our clients and everyone seemed cool no one talking about Kirk or leftists or anything at least where I live.
