I think as a teacher you should be a professional. Thats not a super high bar. But its important to at least consider what is said in class and what is said out of class on personal accounts. The order of events seems unclear from the reporting. My assumption is that after the shooter turned himself in, the cops demanded the roommate give access to his messages and he cooperated with that demand, and this gave them enough to know this was the right guy.

If the roommate was the one who came forward and instigated the identifying of the shooter in the first place, it's unclear how we would arrive at the situation with the dad and the pastor and the shooter turning himself in.

People are correct that it's not guns that kill people, but gun culture and the unhealthy obsession we have with them in the US IMO. Countries like Switzerland and Finland own a lot of guns, but don't see anywhere near the amount of gun violence because their gun culture is totally different. My 2 cents
