Child Of Eden |OT| of Amazing Visuals, Fantastic Music and Multi-Platform Bliss

I thought Kinect works perfectly in the dark, theoretically the depth sensor uses infrared projection which does not need any external visible light sources

Oh, hmm, maybe you are right. All I know is it can't detect my face analyzing thingy if I don't have good lighting.

the only thing that makes mine not work well is if the light source is directly behind you, as in shinning in the cameras face

it still works but loses you constantly

the porn shop where it's being demoed in europe has you playing in the dark. however i believe you have to stand to play or so i've heard and i've never seen it shown where the player can sit.

Advantages / disadvantages

Controller is more precise but you can't jump across the screen in the same way that the Kinect can. The Kinect flips out occasionally but it's way easier to target stuff with it since you can pretty much just move your hand and the cursor goes straight to where you're pointing. Obviously only the controllers vibrate.

So unsure of whether I want to play this with a controller, or drop $150 and buy a Kinect for it. Are there any good Kinect deals going on this week?

Alright. Posting from my 3ds in the living room.

Had the chance to go thru 2 areas using kinect. Haven't had any issues yet in terms of the kinect spazzing out. It's pretty poor lighting in my living room too.

My only complaint about using the kinect is doing the swipe motion to fire after locking on. Although it seems you can unleash the lockon any time via using your left-hand to activate the tracer cursor. So that's one way around it.

In terms of the music, the first area is your typical electronica with traces of genki rockets. But it seems the further you go, the more clearer and in tune the lumi songs become.

And in that regard, this game really is for mizuguchi fans and more so genki rocket fans. Child of Eden is quite literally the chronicle of the Genki Rockets lead, Lumi.

To that end is it still a good game if I'm not a Genki Rockets or J/K-Pop in general fan?

I love electronic music though and can tolerate anything as long as it's well-produced.

You can play sitting down?.

I would be more interested in how the fun compares.

Pretty much...if Kinect makes the game a lot more enjoyable, I'll play that way regardless of how the scores compare between the two.

As far as I am aware that is the only thing Kinect needs light for. It uses IR for the other parts. I have played Kinect in the dark without problems, but I don't have CoE yet.

I thought it was a push motion to fire. At least it seemed that way on Giantbomb's quicklook.

Amazon is almost sold out of this game. Already shows 6 copies left in stock. Rez PS2 redux? Anyone have any anecdotes on number of copies in retail stores?

I'll ask at my Gamestop today. I was the only one to preorder.

I was in my local Walmart this morning, and they had at most four copies, and they had not even put them onto the shelf yet.

Trying to confirm if Target has it in stock before I go out. They can't find their copies and the system says they have 3 in stock. Uh oh.

Told me to call again soon to verify their stock

Hoping to see more impressions here soon... trying to decide if I should buy the 360 one (don't own a Kinect, but would consider it pretty much solely for this game) or to wait for the PS3 edition down the line.

Shame to hear the release is limited.

You would think more reviews would be out by now. Literally a couple good reviews will have me leaving my home ASAP to buy it.

Yeah this embargo shit is getting ridiculous. I'm getting the game either way but still.

I'm really surprised they would make it limited. I'd imagine MS would want to front the money to ensure any new Kinect content was released in mass quantities right now.

All I care/hope for is that is essentially REZ 2.0. I'd go buy it today but storms knocked a power line out in my neighborhood so I'm without power till at the very leat the repair guy gets here to fix my generator. I so want this game to be good though cause I love REZ and still play it to this day. HD version though on my 360.

Game publishers need to start employing review embargoes strategically like the movie industry does for bombs instead of just embargoing everything lump sum. Certain games (like this one) could really benefit from some pre-release critical momentum.

Not sure how limited it is, 2 EBs I popped into today had 20+ easily in their behind-the-counter display and even my local Wal Mart had it out already.

Gonna wash down my lunch with a craft beer, have a bowl and fire this thing up.

Here's my impression (I reviewed it two or three weeks ago and we were embargo'd for June 8th): it's beautiful, get it.

Only real negatives: occasionally finnicky Kinect detection, it's very, very short, and if you don't wave your hands around like a madman a lot you will get tired quickly.

Everything else is sensory perfection, especially with a good sound system.

If you have a Best Buy near you, just do the store pick up. I think other stores do that too. I bought mine a couple hours ago so I can pick it up after work today.

Oops, I meant reversible, lol.

Definitely better than the Kinect-oriented boxart it comes with. Wonder if they'll use that for the PS3 release or not (it is currently what they show online).
