Kinda shocked that this is going to get a sequel didn't think it was a big-hit combined with the fact that the first ended pretty definitively. But, will look forward to this since the original was surprisingly enjoyable for most of the film even though it lost steam once Cruise
lost his looping powers.

I do want and don't want this at the same time. Like, I loved the movie but it's going to take a pretty clever mind to justify another one.

Guilty pleasure of mine, love this movie. I hate that I didn't see the potential in it when it was in theaters, but got hooked when it came on the movie channel and now I can watch this again and again. My wife hates it and gets pissed when i watch it, but then I bring up how many times she watched Twilight and she quits the rampage.

What about Yukikaze? ='(

Will totally be there on day one for this, because Edge of Tomorrow was pretty much my favorite movie of that summer, but I'm still waiting to get my Japanese sci-fi fix and Tom Cruise jet fighter nostalgia-bomb-in-one package...

Interesting that a film that Warners were worried wouldn't open should be redeemed both critically and financially enough to warrant a sequel.

I'm still under the assumption that Liman's Gambit film isn't going to happen so I suppose this could take its place on his schedule.

More Tom Cruise is always a good thing in my book...., though I think this upcoming Mummy film will severely test this thinking.

WTF, the story already has a closure, don't do this. Don't be Alien 3.

You either die the hero or live long enough to find yourself Alien 3.

But how exactly is it going to work.

Emily Blunt's character announces that she's pregnant and Cruise must try and use the alien technology to go back and
finish on her tits
instead.

Sorry. :(

I'm hoping this movie is as good as the first and builds on a lot of the ideas and imagery from the first one. I want to see even crazier power armored exoskeletons for the soldiers, I want to see more melee fighting with gigantic swords and axes bigger than the wielders are, and the aliens being even crazier and more dangerous than the originals.

I loved Edge of Tomorrow but everything I've seen from McQuarrie has been generic as fuck.

You should check out The Usual Suspects and The Way of the Gun. Neither are generic in the least.

Yup, Way of the Gun is fucking excellent. Really good.

Also, not sure how to feel about this news. Edge of Tomorrow was one of my favorite movies of 2014. Though it didn't seem like it needed a sequel.

I love this movie so much because I get off on seeing Tom Cruise get killed over and over and over...

It's like someone made a snuff film I never knew I wanted to jerk off too.

This was such a good movie but I mean, the movie kind of had a good ending that can't be continued. Unless they focus on a different person who goes back to a specific moment like with Cage and Vrataski, since I feel the 'dying and waking up' aspect would have to be a continued focus and Cage loses that ability at the end, I believe.

This is unneeded. Film is perfect as a standalone, i loved then ending.

Seriously, why? The story was wrapped up, how can they effectively expand upon it?

I for one can't wait for this. Never thought I would see the day not least of all because the movie ended with a nice little bow wrapped up around it. On the other hand I don't know what all the worry is about. First didn't really use much of the book at all besides the general concept right? And a pulpy, self effacing sci fi movie with a surprising amount of humor that never took itself too seriously seems like the perfect vehicle to revisit. As long as they don't lose the humor and self deprecating awareness of the first I think it has a chance to exceed the first one even

Out of freakin' nowhere!

The movie is fantastic and considering how it really stands alone as a film and offers closure, this sequel isn't really needed, but I'll sure as hell will take it!

Here's my idea for the sequel:

It is the same conflict, except two different soldiers get the ability simultaneously, meaning they have to follow the light novel ending.

Tom Cruise is a minor character who dies each reset.

I wonder if Cruise's revival at the end of the film will somehow mean his time manipulation abilities are more powerful (i.e., he doesn't need to die to re-do things).

Maybe he has the ability to transfer the power to others and now the government wants it so now he's a fugitive? I'm trying to think of an interesting idea that would justify a sequel.

I forgot, was the implication of the first film that the alien species had absolutely only one Omega mastermind for the entire species? Or could there have been more than one?

If there could be another, I could see a sequel set around a new invasion, but in secret, since the aliens learned from the first invasion that a full on assault is too chancy due to the time-looping effect being transmittable to humans. So, to avoid too much human contact until absolutely necessary, the aliens stage a more covert operation that involves altering events to their benefit. Cruise and Blunt's characters are the only ones who might pick up on what's happening because of their familarity with the time-loop effect, leading into a nice "aliens among us" conspiracy thriller where no one believes them and the aliens are deliberately looping back events to try to stall their progress. A sort of inversion of the first movie.

Too bad the movie had the worst damn marketing campaign in recent memory, it's a damn brilliant action flick. Maybe they learned a lesson and know how to put it back out there this time.

Looking forward to the sequel. More Emily Blunt, por favor.

Why is the article calling it a guilty pleasure? I thought it was legit excellent. I recall it being critically well received as well.

Looks like someone at Deadline edited that out, changed it to "sleeper hit" which is also not correct seeing as it never made its money back.

Don't know, 2014 was a hell of a year for blockbuster movies and great reviews. Maybe the author was pleasuring themselves like our pal euphemism here....

Cruise must really like working with Liman. This'll be their third film together in a span of what? 4 years probably?

And Liman will be directing Amazon's first film in Spring. It's about two opposing snipers in Iraq. An American sniper hiding behind rubble no bigger than him, and the American and Iraqi sniper communicating with each via radio. Sounds intense, and interesting.

Cruise and McQuarrie must really love working together :D Don't mind, the end results are always great and Edge of Tomorrow was great too.
