Last season premiered on a Sunday night, though, to much more promotion than this year.

I've already heard the Sepinwall set-up for this probably being the last season of Chuck. I've already braced myself for that inevitability...when last season started.

The possibility of a 5th season will depend as much on the viability of NBC's new pilots (and the performance of some of their lineup rookies) as much as anything else. Chuck's ratings are relatively reliable....just not timeslot-winning. If NBC feels like they have a number of shows that will outperform Chuck in that timeslot next season, it'll be done; if their new shows turn out to be a Non-EV3NT, then the kid stays on the network.

Keep fighting the good fight, talk all your friends into giving the show a try, and don't worry so much about the ratings at this point....they're not likely to move.

Yeah, this show was so close to never seeing a third season. The fact that we started a fourth last night is something I don't take for granted. We won't be able to keep it around forever, but we're already getting two more season than we could have. I consider each episode past the S2 finale a bonus. Season 3 had it's problems, but it had some great moments and I'm glad we got to see the story continue.

Obviously I hope we can get a fifth season, but I'm just thrilled it didn't stop after 2. We would have never gotten Morgan's "Cobra" or "Michael Carmichael" aliases. :lol

If the ratings for TheEV3NT hold up then my already low opinion of the general populace is far higher than they deserve.

Odd, because most critics thought it was good to great, didn't they?

I haven't seen it yet, but it's on the DVR.

The live-blogging for it here on GAF was pretty negative. It wasn't the worst show I've ever seen, but it was exceptionally mediocre. For my money, nothing could be less enjoyable than that.

- Seidman over at TV by the Numbers - Early Chuck Prediction: Six Additional Episodes Due To Male Skew

Seidman's been a Chuck supporter for a while, but he might be hunting for clicks here as Chuck articles always get a lot of action over at TVbtN. This is another instance of someone mentioning that Chuck's fate might be tied to what happens with The Event.

Skewing male, what does that do for you? I mean besides being overwhelming in the key, there still isn't a lot in there.

I still use it for ratings information, but I have to admit that TVbytheNumbers has annoyed me since earlier this year when they wrote that piece complaining about other websites trolling for hits by creating articles about Chuck renewal chances when they do it constantly.

I think it's because typically more women watch broadcast primetime shows than men, so they look at shows that skew male as a way to get better access to a demographic that isn't normally available unless you're showing sports.

Yeah, they annoy me, as well. Not quite as much as Ausiello, but they're up there.

Yeah, but aren't raw numbers more important first?
Yup, I would think so. Having more eyeballs on your programming (regardless of gender) is most important, this is something of a secondary effect.

Ultimately, I guess the question NBC has to ask themselves is if they have something else that's going to do a better job in that time slot than Chuck. Also, how much is that other show going to cost relative to Chuck.

I just realized, is pulling a 2.1 while going against MNF more impressive then what Chuck did in its third season?

<pulling out of my ass> I would think that it reaches a demographic not tapped by most male centric programming, such as sports. </pulling out of my ass>

I've been a Chuck fan since the beginning. LOVE this show and loved last night's episode.

It was a bit disjointed, though. My guess is they tried to cram a ton of action into the pilot. I kind of missed the buildup and character development.

Go Lions.

Great first episode and Linda Hamilton seems to be in good shape and is a real badass Mother once again. :D

Now bring back the rest of the Buymore Crew.

Cool. The front end of this season has a lot of guest stars. I wonder if they're going to continue at this pace or if they're going to have fewer as we get deeper into the season.

Unless Aaron Sorkin writes it, Pilots almost always range from mediocre to bad.

Glad I wasn't on here then. And I'm also glad I don't share your opinion. I don't know exactly what you were expecting, but "exceptionally mediocre" is a bit extreme. They had a lot to pack in and setup for the rest of the season...what else did you want?

It looks like he's going to tell her next week.

I didn't either, but i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for a few episodes, considering they didn't stretch out the whole Chuck keeping secrets from Sarah angle.

Nope, I hate it too. Finally at the end of last season everything is in the open...but nope!

Hopefully they X that shit out, and fast.

Fair enough. It just seemed at the time like a lame device to revert Ellie and Awesome back to S1 blissful ignorance. Buy More being rebuilt was kinda lame too. There surely could have been another way to work Jeff and Lester/the CIA base back into things.

It bothered me, but it wasn't a huge deal. Depends how long they stick with it. Unlike a few things last season, I thought they did a decent job of explaining why he did it last night even if I didn't agree with it.

evlcookie

but ever so delicious
The one thing i actually didn't like about this episode was the silly music that you would hear when chuck and morgan were being silly fools.

For some reason i couldn't stand the music choice during those scenes. I understood what it was designed for but i just irked me :lol

Was changing back and forth between Dancing with the stars and this (sorry guys)

But it was good. Much Much better than last season. I mean way better :lol

I love Chuck's new haircut. And the way he was describing the interviews were hilarious. And so was his sexting photos:lol

What I did not like was the cheesy "Sarah can charm them all", the guy was huge, how did he not see that coming?!?

Thought this was a nice ep to kick off the season. Just hope the Buy More crew shows up soon (I haven't checked casting info yet, but I'm assuming they'll be back at some point). Shame the show doesn't get amazing ratings but all the worry I've seen the past couple years about the show getting renewed, I think I'm just glad we have a Season 4.

Great first episode I thought. I enjoyed it. Had some playfulness to it.

Did they purposely leave Bonita Federicy off of the guest star listing to make us think she wasn't on the show or was I just not paying attention?

I really enjoyed last night's season premiere. Bonita Federicy becoming part of the regular cast is also a good thing.

This episode had a lot of funny, real, laugh-out-loud moments. I didn't really think that the writers tried to cram too much into this episode either.

At this point in time, I consider this season, and really last, to be a bonus. I've followed "Chuck" since the beginning of Season 1, and it's always been one of my favs. Never thought I'd see last night's premiere the way things were going year before last.

Ah, I DVR'd and fastforwarded through it. Serves me right.
It's cool. It was just odd seeing her in the opening credits now, and especially on the same screen as Jeff and Lester.

And does anyone have a link to the preview shown at the end of the episode?
