Boo memles, making a review about Chuck about yourself. Ass.

Well, when there's not much to say about the episode, what else am I supposed to do? :p

I just don't have enough time to give several variations of "That was fun!" in the future - it'd kill my enjoyment of the show. Premiere was fun, solid, but flawed in ways that would wear on me with time.

Yeah, I know. I just didn't like the idea of the entire intro of one review to be about your own philosophy on future reviews. It was a first thought, and the "Ass" was just supposed to be a humorous jab, I would hope you can sniff that out at this point. If not, good God I am sorry, I really do respect your blog and opinions.

But hey, I am just a random internet poster, you're way better at this then I will ever be.

Great episode - much (much) better than last season's premiere.

And it was my daughter's first Chuck.

My :p spoke to my understanding of your ass.

Well, your use of the word "ass." I do not understand your derriere any more than I did before.

I'm going to stop now. (No offense taken!)

Yeah, this is getting weird.

Very good premiere. The first half was a little messy, with many jokes falling flat for me and i found the comedic music to be needlessly loud and intrusive to the point of annoyance (even more than usual). The second half was vintage Chuck. Sarah's sexting/Morgan's replies were hilarious.

Sooooo soooooo happy Chuck's mission isn't being kept secret from Sarah and Casey beyond the premiere. I was dreading more turgid soap opera drama. Hopefully Ellie isn't kept out of the loop for too long. I'm already bored of her.

Mama Bartowski is badass.

I liked this premiere! It corrected what was missing from the last premiere, it wasn't a downer... this episode was pretty light, lots of fun.

Dolph once again an awesome Russian bad-ass, "I Must Break You"... beautiful.

Boy did they really make Sarah really leggy this episode, with the strategically placed camera angles upskirt.

There was no Captain Awesome, very little Ellie, none of the Buy More crew we're used to.

Olivia Munn's part was pretty useless other than being eye candy, but I guess she's used to that kind of role.

I look forward to the rest of the season, 8.5/10!

Edit: I wonder if Vandalay Industries was a Latex Company :lol

Great episode, very glad to have Chuck back. I especially like that Casey is even showing that he cares more about Chuck. The group dynamic is solid!

That was a fantastic opening to a season, everything just seemed great - Pacing, comedy, everything. The only part I did not like was the very obvious nods to Rocky - although those bits also made me laugh so I guessed they worked. Also, Munn was not only not annoying, but also seemed decent.

The Seinfeld joke was great too - especially since I saw an ep with them talking about it only a week ago

And, I never thought I was much of a leg guy, but by gawd...

Great season opener episode.
Buy More being back I was disappointed, but then the twist came. I was ok that's cool.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
Decent episode. Not great.

Seemed even more budget restricted than last year. Also seemed time restricted.. If that makes sense.

I imagine the action scenes seemed a bit lacking since all of the fights were gun based. I have to imagine that would cost a lot more to shoot and if they are saving some of their budget for later this season they decided to take the shortcuts they did.

I could also see your point on the time restrictions. The first episode for both this season and last season tried to show what happened over an entire summer. I actually thought they did a really good job of it this year. I really enjoyed the Indiana Jones style map showing all of the places they went to searching for his mom. I think they also did a good job setting up the plot for this season without it feeling really disjointed like the season 3 premier did.

I really enjoyed the premiere overall and I'm glad they're not spending half the season with some needless drama and other BS. Chuck is back to being a spy much more quickly than I expected, but we still got the sense that he and Morgan had quite a few adventures in the meantime. I love their strategy for everything: RUN!

Also loved all the nerd references. Good stuff. Can't wait for next week!

Short synopsis for episode 4.04:
Chuck versus The Coup D’Etat

Chuck and Sarah try to become better communicators as they join Ellie and Awesome on a trip to Costa Gravas. A forbidden romance may put Morgan at odds with Colonel John Casey.

Wow. I've been watching Chuck since halfway through the second season and haven't read anything about it since the last season just ended. Then I see this thread, come in to get an idea of when the show starts (some time in January) and find out it already started. What a great surprise!

Oh lord, that episode sounds AWESOME.

The premiere was very good I thought. Nice and light, and lots of fun. They need to keep it up.

And Munn did look better than usual, but she is still super annoying with her "schmacting."

But Sarah in the entire episode...it has been too long since I had new Yvonne fixes every monday.

Stupid cable issue last night caused me to miss the episode. I'll have to catch it streaming soon, what's the best place for that? Otherwise I'll just buy it off PSN.

- Hulu
- NBC

They're up already. Always a good idea to stream a copy in the background at work, too.

Anyways, not a good premiere for the show, but consistent with the series. I guess this is kind of confirmation that this is the last season then. :(

Pretty much what I was expecting and is consistent with the end of the last season. I think that is more or less going to be the best they can hope for with their current time slot. Although at this point I don't even think a time change would mean much. By the 4th season I imagine it has its fanbase and I doubt many new people are going to be trying it out.

Those are rather good numbers actually, considering it wasn't promoted at all, and ended with a 1.8 last year. We couldn't have realistically hoped for better; even though that's probably not enough for another season, that might get us a back nine.

It's good that The Event did so well because they're less likely to mess with Chuck as a lead in as long as those hold up.

That's true, forgot about that. I'm now torn between my love for Chuck, my hate of The Event's pilot, and the greatness of Lone Star's pilot.

I was hoping for a 2.5 at least. Anything higher would have been insane to consider. Perhaps I am just trying to set myself up for the show leaving so I am not mad about it later.

I don't think Chuck has ever pulled a 2.5 when competing against Dancing with the Stars. Possibly back in season 2. Last year the numbers started off better then that, but it had already declined and then fell off completely once DwtS cam

I don't even need to watch it to say that this is the best hour of television ever filmed.

If the ratings for TheEV3NT hold up then my already low opinion of the general populace is far higher than they deserve.

Last season premiered on a Sunday night, though, to much more promotion than this year.

I've already heard the Sepinwall set-up for this probably being the last season of Chuck. I've already braced myself for that inevitability...when last season started.

The possibility of a 5th season will depend as much on the viability of NBC's new pilots (and the performance of some of their lineup rookies) as much as anything else. Chuck's ratings are relatively reliable....just not timeslot-winning. If NBC feels like they have a number of shows that will outperform Chuck in that timeslot next season, it'll be done; if their new shows turn out to be a Non-EV3NT, then the kid stays on the network.

Keep fighting the good fight, talk all your friends into giving the show a try, and don't worry so much about the ratings at this point....they're not likely to move.

More spoilers from Fancast:
Q: On ‘Chuck,’ will Casey be interacting with his daughter? – bonesjonsing via Twitter

A: Oh yes. “We’ll be exploring that relationship, and what it means to be a superspy with a daughter who’s dating guys and having typical daughter issues,” says series cocreator Chris Fedak. “It’s fun to watch Adam Baldwin, who’s such a fantastic comedic actor, deal with those situations.”
Pretty minor spoilers and nothing particularly surprising.

Just caught last nights episode. I'm actually kinda happy with the Chuck/Sarah stuff. They're trying to use writing to drive the plot rather than relationship drama and that's always a relief. Although I'm wondering if they'll replace that with the same old Chuck/Ellie trope of "ZOMG I HATE LYING TO MY SIS :((( "

Fingers crossed.

All in all I'm glad Chuck is back.
