Loved this most recent episode. It's probably tied with the Chuck vs. the Couch Lock as my favorite episodes of this short season thus far. Overall, I think season 4 is shaping up very nicely and I can't wait to see how this all plays out.

Oh, and I was also surprised with the "twist".

What was the xbox under the drivers seat in the mustang? I assume that is a backup Intersect...
It's an Orion computer, as previously seen in the latter part of season 2. It doesn't necessarily contain the Intersect, but knowing Stephen Bartowski, it could do...anything?

Edit: Yesterday's 3.7 household rating was the highest this season, including the premiere. Perhaps a slight bump is possible in the A18-49 demo?

Oh, and I loved that episode. Love that song used at the end. I think they've used it before... just can't remember when.

I heard it was played during Stephen Bartowski's death.
That is correct. I was surprised to hear them use the same licensed song twice, but I guess the budget cuts are pretty deep. (see: CGI this episode)

The twist with Dalton's character surprised me. After the bank scene I suspected he might be a double agent, but I had no idea he would be Volkov.
As soon as he got shot, I remembered my conversation with confusingjazz about whether or not Dalton being on multiple episodes was a spoiler or not. There wasn't any reason for him to get shot there and have him come back for more episodes unless it was faked and he was a double agent. That and the fact that no one had been officially cast as Volkov yet meant it was probably either Dalton or Richard Chamberlain.

After a night's sleep, I'm angriest that they turned Dalton so fast. Volkov is a straight up boring villain while Tuttle was flat out awesome and was completely Hot Fuzz-Dalton
I don't know how many episodes he's going to be on, but having him as Tuttle for the majority of his stint on Chuck before switching to a villain probably wouldn't be that effective. That being said, he was hilarious as Tuttle, and it's too bad we aren't getting a little more. I'm not ready to call Volkov "straight up boring" just yet - we've only had one scene with him so far.

Yeah, that was the reason I wasn't too shocked that he was Volkov. I just couldn't think how they would keep him in the show after being shot and as you said, they are probably wrapping up episode 11 or 12 by now and since NBC hadn't announced any new guest stars it had to be someone we already knew about.

It's intersect 3.0. It will give Chuck the ability to fly, breath underwater, shoot lasers from his eyes, and bake amazing chocolate chip cookies.

I'm not suggesting this, but rather, suggesting that Dalton should have stayed as Tuttle, who should have been a legit character, and someone else could have been Volkov. Tuttle was basically the antithesis of Bond, whereas Volkov feels like a Bond baddie.

Ah, I see. Yeah, some more Tuttle would have been nice, though I don't know how much mileage they could've gotten out of that character in the long term. I do hope that they give Volkov some personality beyond the "dastardly bond villain" angle, though Chuck has consistently done good villains in the past. It's just that most of them get taken out pretty quickly by Team Bartowski.

True. House regularly puts up bigger numbers that what the WS did last night. Kind of a bummer to have a great episode and a bump in ratings right before a hiatus, too.

The fact they introduced him this early gives me some hope assuming the original plan was to have him last until 4.13. And I agree with the good villains, well as long as you mean individuals. Their evil organizations I have been less than impressed with; both Fulcrum and Fulcrum 2.0.

This episode redeemed the last episodes ending and all negative thoughts i had in what direction they are going. Well written and once again great music can't wait for next week and how the story continues. :D

Haven't had the chance to check in on this thread the past few weeks, but wanted to voice my opinions of the show. Not sure about everyone else, but I thought the Halloween episode was amongst the worst ever. Just didn't feel like it clicked well with me at all. This week they bounced back nicely though with some fun scenes and Dalton was great as Tuttle. When the show is hitting on all cylinders, it's still a lot of fun.

Bad green screen effects show off the cut budget though.

And thats why is awesome to dont read the credits of the season before the episodes are watched.

I only suspected the twist when Tuttle had gone from the bank floor and when the mother was going to other corridors of the files room, and thats just before he turns into Volkoff, so that surprised me a lot.

Yeah, Tuttle was awesome, but when Dalton appeared with the suit to say he was Volkoff, I also thought it was awesome.

Really liked the episode, didnt know it was going to be important to the main story, as it starts rather low budget and typical just for fun episode (but without Buy More scenes), even more, I suspected more that this was not a normal episode when I didnt see Buy More scenes, but thoutgh it was only becuase of the budget.

Yes, individuals like Roark, the poisoner, etc...

I agree with that - they've been a bit flimsy at times. Mostly used as a device to cover up some plot holes, and they've lacked personality.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
Whilst certainly not the greatest episode ever, it was pretty good.

Even though everyone watching it with me knew Tuttle was going to be evil.

The Chuck v Sarah drama wasn't as bad as it could have been.. I guess.

That really surprises me. Baseball is the only sport that remotely interests me. Especially now that they cleaned it up.

Really enjoyed this week's episode. It bothered me that they didn't even bother disguising the PSP, though. :lol

I'm not sure why it mattered if it was a PSP. It could have just been a video that triggered something within Chuck/intersect. Or, Orion simply could have retrofitted the PSP with his technology.

(Obvious product placement, but honestly I don't have a problem with it.)

I am going to guess that was intentional actually...

I think the true answer is that Sony is going to be Fulcrum 3.0.

About the thing with his mom, what she said sort of implies that it was either invented before she left or she had talked with Papa B since her disappearance. Perhaps they still talked together about Chuck after she was gone since he became the Intersect or maybe it has something to do with what happened in the computer room when he was a child. Either way, I doubt the intersect is gone for good. I would imagine that Chuck has learned enough by flashing and repetition to not get himself killed as a spy, but I doubt he would make an effective spy without the ability to truly kick-ass intersect style.

Working under the assumption that Papa B and Mom didn't talk at all since she left, it's likely that it existed before or that she knew of something Papa B was doing since because of the codename. Remember, she was keeping tabs from inside Volkov's organization so. I assume she knew of the intersect already because of Papa B having it and she figured out Chuck had it since he entered the spy business.

That makes sense - one of the last pieces of Orion is gone and they play the song again.
My first thought after that end sequence was "I wonder if they'll play it again if they blow up the car"

Best episode of the season imo. Plot moved, guest star was excellent, the banter between Sarah and Chuck while they fought Volkov's men in the bank was very well done. I enjoyed it immensely.

Of course I do like anything Orion related. I love all the little things they keep throwing in there regarding the intersect and the mythology. It certainly IS a family with secrets.

It's not really shown off in this clip, but Zachary Levi's action sequences (particularly the fight scenes) have gotten so much better the last couple of years. He was very awkward in the "I know kung fu" scene, and now it's much more believable.

That's cause he's mastered the intersect. ;) Of course I'm kidding, but in a way it would sort of make sense that he might be awkward doing these things that he knows how to do, but the movements are unfamiliar since he's never done them before. As he performs the actions, he body gets that movement memory and he becomes more fluid performing the actions.

It's probably a combination Zach never studied any form of martial arts and he was meant to look awkward fighting despite he has the intersect, he shouldn't look completely comfortable in his skin doing that shit for the first time.

Hmmm. It *could* work, if they waited until the end of the season since we got a nice long season this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happened in episode 13 since that was going to possibly be the last episode. Since they got a back 11, they might push it out toward the second half of the season. I am not sure if there have been any interviews with Schwartz or Fedak where they have said how they plan on doing the new episodes, as a separate mini-season like last year or if they are stretching and fleshing out the current storyline.

Thanks for the summary SG - I added it to the OP.

I haven't seen any interviews with Schwartz or Fedak regarding the additional episodes, but most of the speculation has said that they didn't really have time to rescript the first 13 (since they were already breaking/filming the last few when the news broke) so the back 11 will be a new arc.

+ the whole ring thing earlier makes me think the proposal is coming for real this season.
Cause if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it
If you liked it then you should have put a ring on it
Don't be mad once you see that he want it

While a new arc will be the main element of the latter season, they could still have time for minor changes to make the transition easier; for example, I remember Fedak saying the Chuck vs. Shaw Intersect battle would have come in Chuck versus the Other Guy had last season not been extended (instead, the fight was in Chuck versus the Subway/Ring Part 2)
