Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reaches 500k copies sold in a day (UP: 1 million copies in 3 days)

qSYT5qf.jpeg

Game peaked at 121k today.
Fun to see a smaller AA title succeed.

Same with Microsoft for Starfield and Indiana Jones
If you own a service where people can play a game without buying it then you are going to release player numbers.
Steam didn't release absolute numbers for Starfield but did note that it was a platinum seller. Of course Steam also 'releases' minute by minute number of concurrent players.

This game needs frame generation like ASAP. 4070ti is struggling to get 60 fps with DLSS Quality. Also a lot of stuttering.

I already bought it but I'm torn as I already have a couple of games on-going. Including cyberpunk 2077 which I enjoy a lot, first time I played it since the massive patches.

Overall i don't see this UE5 ugliness you are speaking of, in this game at least.

twitter compression makes it in parts hard to see...
but Lumen absolutely destroys the atmosphere in this part

this is the Series X version. I downloaded the PC version in the hopes that some tweaks could fix this on PC, but nope...

if this was a game released 10 years ago, and people would see this on screen, they would have unironically gone on Reddit and posted on some PC help subReddit thinking their GPU is dying.

I was resistant but now I'm starting to agree with you about Lumen. It's the messiest and worst performing of RTGI solutions.

Game is fantastic but there are some major performance and graphical issues. Bear in mind I'm using a 9800X3D+5090, so there's no excuses for the fizzling graphics, no HDR, over sharpened everything, stutters, and not to mention maxed out only giving 65-95fps at 4K without any RT implementation. DLSS set to quality etc doesn't make pretty much fps difference either. It's just a very bizarre release because the game is fab but the issues - so obvious - are there.

It's also far too demanding for the visuals on display. The IQ is also quite bad with a lot of fizzling and unstable fine details.

I love the game so far. Amazing music and engaging gameplay and story, but it's doing this well in spite of UE5, not thanks to it. Imagine my shock when my fucking 4090 dropped to 55fps at max settings DLAA 3440x1440 in a game that doesn't look any better than Days Gone but performs much worse.

Thanks, i thought I was the only one. We need a patch like right now.

Have you tried a Frame Gen mod?

yup. in the best cases, the best I can say about Lumen is that it doesn't distract. but these best cases are rare. in most games it just breaks at certain points due to how low quality it is.

maybe someone will make a similar tweaked engine.ini file for it like the one I found for Silent Hill 2. I tried tweaking it similarly myself (by looking what said SH2 mod did) but nothing really helped in this spot of the game.

but for anyone that wants to try tweaking Lumen, you have to manually create a file called engine.ini in the folder where the game's normal config file is

Xbox app:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Sandfall\Saved\Config\Windows

Steam:
<SteamLibrary-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/1903340/pfx/

and after you saved your addictions you have to write protect the file, or the game will delete it.

I wonder how long this game was in development for?

Between this and Astro Bot - Should be an example of the scale and budget games should go back to especially when backing in NEW IP.

That spoilered image looks cool is that supposed to be bad?
We can't have it all, we have a budget release made by a small team with impressive scope. This isn't getting made without using an off the shelf engine. The game functions great, haven't seen or heard of any significant bugs. It can look amazing graphically but then can have issues.
I found the clipping to be way more egregious than any lighting issues I think some people just have a hate bones for UE5.

Watch it on a regular screen. The IQ is horrendous.

But yeah, I just wish UE5 wasn't so taxing for so little benefits. The game is fun though. Great music too.

Really happy to see this doing so well.
Honestly, this should be a wakeup call for a lot of the rest of the industry.

Yeah the IQ is kinda shit, specially in performance mode (on base Ps5).
But given the size of the team and how amazing everything else about the game is, I'm willing to give them a pass

The studio was founded in 2020, so at most 5 years.
Keep in mind though that it's only a core team of 30 people, and the studio was even smaller for the first couple of years.

This mod removes that nasty ass sharpening + unlocks the framerate for cutscenes, among other things. Highly recommended

The menus and how you equip pictos and lums is garbage like really and. Game definitely needs a mini map. I know the games linear but the areas can be a bit confusing especially when you come out of a battle.

Ok i see... it's not nearly as bad on PC with max settings at least.
Also transformer model DLSS helps i guess.
Consoles are just to weak for UE5 with high settings... i mean look at how most of these games run on a 4090.

Imagine my shock when my fucking 4090 dropped to 55fps at max settings DLAA 3440x1440 in a game that doesn't look any better than Days Gone but performs much worse.

I got a 4090 FE too and i would recommend you force the latest DLSS version in the NV app with transformer model if you haven't (it's a must) and use DLSS Q, you can barely tell a difference between DLAA and Q but you gain like 30% performance.
Also lower shadows and shaders to high from epic and get another huge boost to FPS for almost free.

I agree with the mini map thing, i hope they will patch it in later.
There's some minor things that can be improved upon with patches or at least in the next game, but overall i think the game is very polished and they clearly playtested it alot.

Take notes Square Enix. Turn Based is king.
This is by far my favorite comment.
Square was king of turn based RPG. The FF franchise started to decline once they switched to real time.
But even with recent success of Metaphor, Persona 5, Baldur Gate and now Clair Obscur they can't seem to catch a hint.
It's really time to get rid of the old guard (Kitase as a producer) at Square and go back to their roots.

Yeah, UE5 is kind of an abomination in most situations. I was excited for it when it first got revealed, but it just hasn't worked out for most developers.

Must be a miserable life when your enjoyment of an incredible game is predicated on not being able max out your settings cause you spent $1500 on a new video card (lazy devs that don't cater to the .05%, right?) and can't wrap your head around the exploration of small areas without a mini map.

SquareEnix is sitting on crazy amount of top IPs still, to not look far:

Certainly a Game of the Year contender and it would be mind-boggling to see another game beat it in terms of soundtrack this year, literally every single piece of music is top notch. Could even be in the running for one of the best games ever list depending on how the rest of the game pans out.

All made by a small team asking non-premium prices to play. It's worth more than the price of admission.

Nice. I haven't bought it yet, but will, during another pay period. Getting oblivion and lunar remastered drove me over the gaming budget for the week.

UE is malware. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

For years this engine has plagued games with some seriously cocked up issues in one form or another. In the PS360 era it was fucked up texture streaming that made most games look like complete dogshit.
Nearly 20 years later people are still posting these ridiculous '.ini' tweaks.

Man reading this thread makes me want to try the game, even though i hate JRPG's and turn based combat (i know this technically isnt a jrpg, and doesnt have all the cheesy characters and dialogue melodrama of a jrpg).

I mean fantasy rpg's are my thing and i didnt even play Baldurs Gate 3 because of the turn based combat.

I have Gamepass though so might check it out i suppose.:messenger_confused:

Do it. The combat is fun af and i dont like turn based that much... Its an awesome evolution and pretty active combat

Wow, I didn't even know it was on Game Pass until this thread.

Hope Square Enix is taking note of the successes of this game, Metaphor, etc... the people want more turn-based RPGs!

I don't think we can really rag on UE5 when this game wouldn't really have a chance of existing without it at least not looking as good as it does in a lot of parts.

Pics of CO:E33. Potential spoilers to the end of Act 1

I dunno boys... game looks pretty phenomenal to me maxed out on my PC lol.. That said, I'm using Lyall's COFix to remove the over-sharpening and running at a fairly high resolution.

In the US I can literally only purchase the PS5 version of the game from Amazon with an estimated delivery of mid-late May. Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Gamestop...all gone. I don't even know if Target carried it.

This obviously sold wildly beyond their expectations.

Also the Collectors Edition is now selling for about $600 on Ebay. Just the other day they were selling for $400. It was a $150 Collectors Edition if you were lucky enough to be able to buy one...
