Glad for the devs that their game has debuted well on Steam, especially since it's not even the weekend yet and it's also available on Game Pass.

Tales of Arise - 60,274
Metaphor - 85,961
Granblue Fantasy Relink - 114,054

It's already above the likes of Persona, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Yakuza, etc.

This one's going to have very long legs i suspect, outselling stuff like Metaphor easily in the long run, bet their next project will have a way bigger budget and the studio will grow quickly.

So, this is another game available on GamePass day 1, but still manages to sell copies?
I never buy games i can play on Gamepass for free, but before even finishing the "tutorial" i bought it on steam and started over :D
It's just insanely good... it's what the FF remakes should have been.
I really hope this small dev team will get the success they deserve to make a sequel and more awesome games like this.
So far it's the best game i've played in years.

PS: who are these mentally ill 12% that didn't like the game?:lollipop_astonished:

Oh, it was more directed at certain poor performances being attributed to games being available on GP.

As for this game itself, it's not for me, but it does seem great for fans of the genre.

Busy this weekend so no play (dammit!) But next week it's definitely on. Very excited for this one. Looks absolutely stellar. And a new fresh IP too.

Big budgets and huge teams are the bane of good game development.
Stay lean and stay small so you have a team who are all bought in to the overall vision.

This is just steam, but those are also just players online at the same time. It sold way more than 52k.

Glad to hear that! Mine comes tomorrow on PS5. This is the exact type of game I want to see more of. Looks like I'm not alone!

I'll wait for a few patches to drop since I'm busy with other games, but already bought it and am glad of their success.

Must feel awesome to send a gigantic middle finger to your previous employer by releasing a much better product than theirs in the first try.

Who is the "previous employer"?

Insane that this came from a new 30-person dev team.

It already destroyed Avowed and will probably surpass Veilguard this weekend.
When it comes to software development, adding people to a dev team doesn't necessarily means that the team will perform more. In many cases, management can become a hell and I'm sure that's what's happening in many AAA companies.

So yeah a small team, specially if they are passionate, can do wonders. They don't need to wait for they manager to approve shit, they can comunicate with each other, they probably have coffee breaks together and not just people of same team but across teams. Might sound dumb but imo that shit works wonders on a project.

Love that this game is doing well.

However... still annoyed that Microsoft seemingly had the marketing deal for this game, knew when it was coming out, and still did a full Oblivion unveil and release 2 days before it came out. That's not how you treat your partners.

Sometimes, yes, but some recent masterpieces come from studios that were small not long ago, KCD2, Baldurs Gate 3, Cyberpunk..

If there's talent and passion you can have a big team like Larian, CDProjekt or Warhorse studios, just pray that they stay (more or less) independient and keep creating the things they love and thinking on what we want instead of just on how to make more money, and then the players will respond with the word of mouth.

Just popping in to say that this game is tremendous, and I am delighted it's done so well.
It's hitting a spot that has needed dealing with for many years.

Awesome! I though the game was going to fail due to the title alone but I'm glad to see I was wrong.
This was me before seeing it score so high in the reviews,Paid no attention to it dueto the name not resonating but after the reviews I actually started checking out the trailers and info on the game and I basically was like this as I was doing it:

I never changed my opinion so fast on a game. This will probably be my goty for 2025!

An amazing package by an incredibly talented team!

Interesting that it so far has that earlier (ie. Eastern-audience skewed) peak that you see with JRPGs / MH Wilds etc. Even though this is essentially a JRPG, I didn't necessarily expect it to skew toward that market. Maybe the Western audience is just missing (proportionally) due to Oblivion, or maybe it's just a launch day anomaly.

Another nail in the coffin of the game pass copers, lmao.

Turns out, if you make a good game, it will sell well on Steam, what a fucking surprise to absolutely no one.

Yeah Microsoft really fucked them over with that Oblivion shadow drop...they seriously couldn't wait till first week of May to drop it?! Shameful act by them.

Sony purchased marketing rights for Alan Wake 2, a miracle game that shouldn't exist, and then turned around and scheduled Spider-Man 2 for the same week forcing Alan Wake to delay.

A lot of publishers are guilty of this.

You love to see it

Shit, add Square Enix to this too. Humbling 2 of the biggest devs on the planet with your first entry

You already beat the game?
Honestly, the first two hours of this game has been an overall more enjoyable experience than the 120 total hours I've spent with XCX.
