Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Launches on Steam with 145k Concurrent Players and 'Very Positive' Reviews (92% Positive)

Has anyone had any resolution issues? When I started the game and did the tutorial fight my screen was 32:9 5120x1440p looking great. However after the fight, the next custcene was cut off top and bottom and in the settings the resolution changed to 4k. When I switch back it doesn't seem to save and reverts back to 4k, so now it's all squashed on my screen.

Reloading the game did nothing. Changing to windowed seemed to save the resolution, but I'm not playing in windowed mode.

2nd game this week with weird resolution issues after Oblivion.

Edit : Found a solution that mostly works. Still can't change resolution in options, but this seems to help. Cutscebes no longer capped at 30, no black bars in cutscenes, intro skip etc

Yeah, this is why I love PC gaming, but tech wise the game is borked at the moment:

1. Using Steamdeck=0 launch command I still cannot get the option to change the settings past the render
2. When selecting either TSR or XeSS with 100% resolution scale I still get typical shimmering artifacts especially on the hair that happen when using FSR - why if there's no upscaling being done?
3. Sometimes the colors change super rapidly when entering the new area, it's like the background gets replaced in a split second

It is such a pity that this is unsupported on the Deck. I just had a look at the playstation store and it costs the same as on Steam (excluding the launch discount). I might grab it there, it is a shock to see price parity between Steam and PS store (it costs the equivalent of 27 GBP on Indian Steam and Indian PS store).
Square Enix is not going to take any lessons from this when they can sell low production value cash grab HD 2D games at full AAA price. The budget for this game is easily multiple times that of low production value repetitive slop like the octopath games, but I am sure the revenue will end up in a similar place.

Does the game run well on the Deck? It says Unsupported on the steam page. If it runs well, I would prefer to get it on Steam.

Octopath 2 is worth every cent.

IMO it does run well, I have it locked to 30FPS, as mentioned this is with 100% resolution scale. I cannot access the options for specific things (I am sure this will be fixed) but I think there is enough overhead for good experience after some tweaking. Loading times are very fast.

Just after replying to you I got this video:

Turns out I didn't copy the launch command exactly, now I have all the options available. I would still recommend going for 30 with maximum options on, the game is quite beautiful.

You haven't even played this game yet, what you are blabbering about?

the textures, lighting, and enemy design are winners so far. I made it 6 hours into the PS5Pro version. My only complaint is that they made good characters that also look a bit funky at times.

I never want them to go back to turn based, what they are doing with the Action RPG system of FF7 Remake is far more valuable.
I dunno man, Persona really changed my mind on how a turn based game can feel. I would welcome a numbered Final Fantasy with turn based combat. FFX was the last one and is one of the GOATs.

Got a bit bored of oblivion as it was really the nostalgia that had hooked me back in.

Saw that this was doing well so downloaded this of game pass with zero knowledge about it at all.

First impressions were not good as those cutscenes are a blurry, shuddery mess but then it cuts into the game for a pretty pristine image. 5090 4k using dlaa and everything at epic.

Some hitches here and there technically, but the story has me intrigued so far.

DLAA seems to be broken.
Use DLSS Quality for a better image, if the sharpening is too much you can even use lower DLSS setting to soften the image a bit.

No, it's not. This game and LAD before made me realise I don't really like games that rely on positioning, BG3 is the worst offender because that game comes to a crawl because of battles. It's a shame since everything else is top tier.
Both systems can coexist, not everything needs to be action heavy.

As a big fan of turn-based combat, I am happy this exists and is reviewing well. FF7 Remake's/Rebirth's combat is "meh" to me.

I feel the opporsite,. I war prefer tactical rpgs and anything where positioning is a big factor.
That said I agree both can coexist and persona this are doing a great job.

They are the reason I say that Square Shouldnt go back to it when they could make their own unique hybrid systems

This is great! Thanks for sharing.

I think the 50 USD price is taking it a long way. I think more PC games are doing better with this price than ever before.

Officially past 60k now:

Well deserved!

It's gonna clear Tales of Arise with no issues. Can it surpass Metaphor (85,961) though?

EDIT: Sorry, it's already above Tales of Arise (60,274). Good stuff.

i havent really played any turn based games since golden sun on GBA but the way theyve made the combat in this works really well, from the music to the sound effects everything hits you hard in the noggin, had to turn my headset down because all the impact sounds were making my brain wobble :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Nobody "decided" it, but PC gamers are a pretty independent sort and they are very familiar with Microsoft going back over 40 years and know better than to trust Microsoft with anything ever
You are speaking for the vocal minority. Gamepass is a completely different thing and I have gotten more than my monies worth out of it.

He's not wrong in not trusting MS given their history in PC gaming, but you are also not wrong in that gamepass is the one thing they may have done right for PC gamers in a long time.

Surprised Epic didnt EGS them after investing.

Epic didn't 'invest'
Epic Mega Grants is a no strings attached pool of money to help fund projects. I get your point, but felt the need to clarify.

I bought the game for PS5 but haven't started yet, excited to see what's in store. I basically know nothing about the game and have barely seen anything.

It's 4pm in Europe, morning in the US + it's not even weekend. 64k now. 100k should be easily doable.

There are times when we need to move on from the past. I saw the rise and fall of Games For Windows Live, and owned multiple xbox 360s that red ringed, before they were fixed for free. The company still exists, but not the people who made those decisions are long gone.

How do you know this?
PC game pass is accessible in way more countries than Xbox Game Pass, and way cheaper, yet the subscription numbers are 1/10 of the console users.

PC games don't cost much (or even are free very often) so not surprising.

Of all the SE games to shit on you pick Octopath Traveler 2?

I'd have been with you if you said Final Fantasy XVI but OT2? That's a great game my man. Worth every penny. Not sure why you think it is bad. SE problem isn't in their AA games but their AAA games their gaas and their marketing/management and even though they are inept they still put out pretty great games.

People mentioning SE here are hoping they take their AAA development in this direction because they have famously championed action gamplay in their biggest games and we just want a turn based mainline final fantasy again, and it looks like we got it, but not from Square Enix.

Might want to look up the definition(s) of Invest.
Invest doesnt necessarily mean for gain, just like people Invest in other people to simply help them out.

The name is in the project its a Grant, thats actually why I included the picture, I didnt want people to think I meant the other Invest.
Its just that alot of MegaGrant recipients get approached by Epic after completion of the projects for EGS deals.
I also didnt want to just say "gave them money" because that sounds kinda callous.

1. That doesnt mean that it isnt successful.
2. Your second point is ridiculous.

Slop like the Octopath Traveler games?

Mate are you alright, I mean hey this has been my most anticipated game since it was announce, and the first area music already has me sold.
But lets not act like Octopath and Octopath 2 especially arent masterpieces in their own right.
They are clear love letters to JRPGs especially Final Fantasy RPGs of yor.
If anything Square needs to look at Octopath and make those but in 3D to gain a bigger audience.
