Climate change episode of 'Frozen Planet' won't be aired in the US/other countries

This whole made up story is ridiculous.

"Over 30 networks across the world have bought the series but a third of them have rejected the choice of the additional two episodes, including the one on climate change.
On Thin Ice features Sir David Attenborough, 85, talking at length about the melting of the ice and featuring hungry polar bears......the BBC said that Discovery, which shows the series in the US, had a “scheduling issue so only had slots for six episodes”, so “elements” of the climate change episode would be incorporated into their final show, with editorial assistance from the Corporation.....A spokeswoman for the BBC said it was not be feasible to force networks to buy the climate change episode as it features Sir David talking extensively to the camera and there are many countries where he is not famous."

So, Discovery in the US (along with a third of the countries who bought this) is cutting out the portions where the boring old fuck Attenborough is slobbering in front of the camera and including the relevant parts with episode six. Big deal.

You're a bad person and you should feel bad.

so now that we laugh at you people for believing in global warming it's now changed that we dont believe in climate change? We've always believed in climate change.

And you should, what a dumb fucking comment.

In the article, a BBC rep says they decided not to include the 7th episode in the package because it mostly features someone who most non-British don't know on camera speaking about the subject.

Which is a complete bullshit excuse. If you watch documentaries (which i'm assuming is the target audience this is aimed at) then you know David Attenborough.

Funny how humans always deny, deny, deny when it comes to this stuff and it's usually focused around money.

When shit hits the fan then no more denial...it's a sad cycle.

It's one overarching narrative building up to the final episode, those of us who have been following the series know this. All the countries rejecting the full series are getting a butchered version in the same vein as the US versions of Planet Earth and Life.

Cutting science out of science documentaries because people in this country choose not to "believe" in it? Fuck that noise.

Oh come off it. The average person doesn't want to watch the guy in front of a camera for an hour. We want to see shit.

You knoe there are plenty of succesful documentaries where you can see the commentator right?

Also we aren't talking about the average person. We're talking about people who watch nature documentaries.

If you only understood the irony in your statement.

That's exactly what people have been doing for the last thirty years while watching Sir David's monumental 'Life' series and his many other series. He was the front man for all of these series. The recent trend of him just narrating the documentaries is down to his age and been unable to travel to all of these far flung locations. The NHU are just getting ready for the inevitable. If Sir David was still in his prime the likes of Planet Earth and Life would be more like 'Life of Mammals' or 'Life of Birds' for example. Very different indeed.

Just because you have the attention span and IQ of a skink doesn't mean everyone else does. The people watching this show are almost certainly not climate change deniers.

Doesn't the US always cut out Sir David Attenborough and replace him with some pathetic US celebrity voice over like they did when they replaced him with Oprah saying the stupidest shit and removing all traces of evolutionary theory to replace it with stuff like "that animal uses his hands like people do!"

He has been replaced by Sigourney Weaver (didn't do bad, but she's no Attenborough) and Oprah - disaster.

Good thing Canada usually gets the UK version with Sir David Attenborough. I think sometimes we get both versions though, and in that case the Sir David Attenborough one always sells better.

The US is fucking pathetic though. Editing BBC documentaries to remove all traces of evolution from the US version, then wondering why their kids are scientifically retarded, smh.

It's possible that the James Jay Lee hostage incident has spooked the Discovery Channel into avoiding any hot button environmental issues.

The awesome power of the Universe has been changing the Earth without our help for billions of years.
Arrogant humans trying to make it stay the same as the last few hundred years?
Good luck with that.

Our planet's climate is affected by the composition of the atmosphere. Through our use of fossil fuels, we have affected the composition of the atmosphere. Where's the disconnect? Is there any reason for us to be magically incapable of influencing such things?

Logic twisted up like a pretzel. The amazing powers of the human brain to reduce our cognitive dissonance.

Who exactly are they doing this far? It is topic but hardly a hot topic for them to be making changes to the documentary as if it will inflame any one besides the craziest of idiots. I cant even think of the last time there was debate on climate change.

Who gives a shit? Its a tv show.
It's a science TV series that's essentially being censored for telling people stuff they don't want to hear, which is total garbage.

As someone who has to take three atmospheric chemistry and air pollution classes a week...I think I just lost a few brain cells.

Seriously there is a shit load of information available about climate change. There is absolutely no reason to be this ignorant on such a big subject.

Pssh, nothing but liberal sophistry invented by Al Gore in his evil fortress of lies, just like atomic theory.

An episode of the BBC's Frozen Planet documentary series that looks at climate change has been scrapped in the U.S., where many are hostile to the idea of global warming.
Uncomfortable ideas, lets ignore em, yeah!

Well that's stupid and unnecessary. The Discovery Channel and other channels air science theory programs all the time that fly in the face of the beliefs of a lot of people. Why should this be treated differently?

“On Thin Ice (Programme Seven) features David Attenborough in vision as it is his authored show.

“It would be impossible to do a presenter-less version. Only those countries that accept David as a presenter (and there are many where he is well-known – such as Australia, New Zealand and Scandinavia) could be expected to take episode seven as it stands.

“In the case of Discovery in the USA, they had a scheduling issue so only had slots for six episodes and have decided to combine elements of episode seven, On Thin Ice, with episode six, The Last Frontier. The BBC has been consulted on editorial decisions on this.”

Sounds like it will be aired but with the host cut out.

Yeah, I know Discovery is saying "scheduling issues" which may be true, but if not and they just don't want to stir controversy, then that is just sad, cowardly, and nonsensical.

do they edit out Attenborough because some Americans don't believe in the existence of British people?

:p

but seriously, why do i have to wait for the blu-ray just to have the version with Attenborough. i don't want Oprah, i want Attenborough

We are two distinct people with a purposefully designed plan to cause a dramatic increase in smarminess when we post in the same thread. I'm currently ruining it with my festive hat for Skyward Sword, though.
