Is that Ripster from Street Sharks?

Just ordered King City since it was on sale. Has anyone read it? Amazon reviews were all glowing.

I only read the first seven issues of WATXM, picked up issue 24 and was like, "Hmm, doesn't seem as if much has changed." That's a good thing - I liked the first seven issues and only stopped because of warnings about the whole AvX debacle.

It's fucking awesome. After you finish that and love it you should check out Graham's Multiple Warheads(see this very same post for relevant info). #4 is the last issue in this mini so the trade should be out pretty soon.

I think I'm actually not going to get Fearless Defenders even tho I'd like to read a Dani Moonstar book again. Got no love for Bunn (My anaconda don't want none, etc). I'll wait for GAF opinions at least.

You missed out on the best issue of the series.

I'd read issue 8 and 17 and then be done with it. There's a reason everyone is telling you to get issue 17, though... so good.

I really need to cop that X-Statix omnibus one day... still haven't read it.

I haven't read it yet but I'm a big fan of his other two books: Multiple Warheads and Prophet.

yeah b

Batman and Robin #15 was good, but it felt like really well done table scraps. Really liked the art, lots of creepy Joker stuff. I like Damian, but i want more out of a comic than a tie-in conversation.

Batman #16: Also good, but it reads like a Joker advertisement and not a story.

Ultimates #20: I'm in-between on this title, it was decent but didn't transition very well.

Old but I just noticed this. At the beginning of Tron Legacy Sam's room is filled with references to Disney's past and even Marvel's too:

Apparently that comic is from the series ROM the Space Knight. It kind of works as both a reference to Tron and Marvel which is pretty neat.

Too bad Marvel doesn't have the rights to ROM thought :/

So as far as the Exiles go, what's a good starting point? Do I just jump in with the first trade and endure the 90's style or is there a preferred starting point? Same with Thunderbolts.

Exiles came out in 2001, and was concurrent with New X-Men and the Milligan/Allred version of X-Force. It doesn't read like a 90s comic.

Just start with Volume 1. Winick's run was good.

Thunderbolts was radically different before Warren Ellis' run. If you want the Suicide Squad take on the concept, start with that run. I think it started around issue 110. A lot of people like the original book (which started off as the Masters of Evil pretending to be heroes), but I have only read bits and pieces of it. That actually was a 90s book though. Marvel also turned the book into fight club with superpowers for awhile. I don't remember too many people praising that run.

Cool I'll add more to my amazon wish list.

That must have been a weird time to be an xmen fan. Where were you supposed to go for the traditional "90s" style xmen adventures?

winter soldier fuckn owns; bru went out on a high point

I wasn't reading back then but it sounds like a great time to be an X-Men fan. If you wanted interesting revitalizations of a dead franchise, you could read Morrison/Quitely et al. on New X-Men or Milligan/Allred on X-Force. And if you didn't want that? Just read Chuck Austen comix!

do i need to know/read anything before diving into winter soldier? that is one bad ass dr doom.

They explain everything in the comic, I'm pretty sure but basically:

bucky came back to life, was cap for a while, fake-died and now him and his girlfriend are off fighting soviet sleeper soldiers!!

They aren't big spoilers if you've kept up with comics even moderately in the past 2~ year

e: yeah, the fear itself .1 issue explains everything anyways so i'm gonna unspoil

Wildly awesome fun. Big fan of it. Really enjoying his Prophet too, and I'll be grabbing Multiple Warheads when that hits trades too. King City made me a definite Brandon Graham fan.

The Black Hole poster was also an in-joke since the director was attached to the proposed remake of that, too.

Anyone get their Sullivans Sluggers yet?

Of course not. Grrrrrr.

To be honest a relationship between Elektra and Punisher was set up back in Garth Ennis's run on Punisher back in the early 00s

That doesn't make it right, man.

That doesn't make it right...

Does anyone else really dig Noto's covers/pin-ups but find his interior work completely boring? Seriously, I don't think I've ever read any comic he's drawn and liked it because of the art.

I want to see the broken room/bed/world after the sex they have unless its in the air lol.

Whats coming out for DC this week besides Young Romance?

Dan DiDio's fresh shit shipped in a box to your favorite local comic book store. To be fair, this one comes out every week.

I discovered Brandon Graham last year (pretty much with the Multiple Warheads series and a bit of Prophet) and he's really cool. It reminds me of the kinds of comics I'd make as a 7 year old, full of cutaways and diagrams and weird little asides - I'm glad there's at least a bit of a market for it. Also his porny comics were badass.

What's King City like/about?

I think that's one of his best pages for sure, but yeah, I felt the end of UXF dropped several notches with the one-two punch of no Opena and no White as well, the last issues were a bit drab and square compared to the twisty organic european styles we'd had in the book up till then. He's OK but not in the same league IMO.

King City is a lot like Multiple Warheads, style wise. Same crazy asides and diagrams. I guess the most basic synopsis would be a guy comes back to the city he grew up in. He has a pet cat that is also a weapon, he hangs out with his best friend and has to deal with stuff like seeing his ex-girlfriend, coming to terms with change, and crazy world ending dilemmas.

USA Today has a write up and preview for this month's Green Arrow. Good lord is Andrea Sorrentino just going to kill it on this book.
