COMICS! |OT| February 2015. No ship girls. Oh, we got a Tank Girl though!

Artist Alley makes a con for me. I'm actually thinking of going to NYC comic con this year. It would be the best

Fair warning, the Artists Alley at NYCC, even in its new locashe, is no longer safe from the innavigable hordes. It's just as bad on the floor there as it is outside the Konami booth. NYCC is now truly 100% worthless.

Ironically enough, it's also insanely expensive. Weird how that works.

Authority. Better than millars run even though it didn't get as much popularity for some reason

Ellis' run is really the only one I like to be honest.
Other than Red Son and that little Flash run with Morrison, Millar doesn't do a whole lot for me.
I never bothered with any of the other Authority runs.

-edit-

On further thought the Ultimates was good, but ash the same time I have no desire to ever read it again.

Just finished the first volume of East of West. It's my first time reading anything from Jonathan Hickman so I went in not knowing what to expect. Overall I'd say the world he has created is very intriguing, but as of right now none of the characters have really grabbed me. I see great potential in this book so I'll keep reading it, but I hope the main characters get a little more development because right now I don't really care that much about Death or his interchangeable Witch escorts.

Try out Jonathan Hickman's Manhattan Projects. I recommend it.

dont bother with authority besides Ellis. Now Ellis's storm watch run is AMAZING. Authority is a nice ending to that run

Bish, you read comics? How do you feel about Harley Quinn?

Oh man, it's been forever since I've read Stormwatch. I wonder if that's on CMX, hmm...

It's a damn shame how badly they botched Stormwatch for the New 52.

It's on my list to try out. From what I've read it sounds like something I'll enjoy. I have quite a few books to read before I start ordering anything else, though.

Manhattan Projects is godly, definitely give it a shot.

I looked and it's not :( i did see wildcats 3.0 was on there and 99cent each! Pleasant surprise.

The craziest thing with storm watch is it ended with an alien crossover that they made in continuity.
where the aliens kill almost everyone
. So bizarre.

Did we go to the same event? I had no problem chatting up multiple artists and writers. Only one who had a ridiculous line was Conner & Jimmy. Babs Had like 3 people around her.

I had Joe Quinones to myself for 20 minutes. Cliff Chiang was just chillin. Slott was just like "yooo" sitting there all bored.

Damn that sucks. NYCC has the most happening stuff tho. There are other comic cons in NYC besides NYCC no?

Dude, NYCC is fine. I don't know what that's all about. I bet Ben tries to eat dinner at 5pm in Manhattan too lol.

Please take my word for it, Artist Alley was great on Thursday.

Lol Thursday!

I'm sure everything was great on Thursday, I won't deny that. Long gone are the days I could go to a con for the weekdays.

See I knew it lol

Thursday was fucking insane. I think if you really want to experience the best there is to offer on the floor, you hit up the tables on that day. Friday-Sunday legit seems to be just for different pannels and daily allocations for exclusive shit.

This year I'm going to end up taking a 2 day pay cut for NYCC and that kind of pisses me off, but my contract states that if I take off any time the day before or after a long weekend you loose the day prior and after with no excuses.

90s Venom was something else

When I was younger and only knew the New Spider-Man Cartoon, I loved Venom and Symbiotes. Their Spider-Carnage Arc was fantastic. Then I began to read the comics and I began to notice that Venom began to be shitty at his second appearence.

Spidey Kicks Butt has a fantastic article on this: http://www.spideykicksbutt.com/DarkSideoftheSpider/DarkSideoftheSpider.html

The worst point on him was his inconsistent sense of "justice" and how grim dark awesome he was written.

And LOL at the Nocenti stuff.

So what are some more good non-cape series? Already have 100 Bullets, Scalped, Crossed, and DMZ in my wishlist. That probably gives a good idea of the kind of stuff I like

Kipp

but I am taking tiny steps forward
I feel kinda bad. I just bought an X-Men vs. the Sentinel Lego set and I still haven't ever read an X-Men comic. It was only $15 though (regularly MSRP of $50).

Here's a blog retrospective on Venom comics:

Some of the stuff in there is amazing

It wouldn't be much more expensive to book a flight and hotel for heroes con, dude. No joke.
Yeah but Heroes Con isnt in NYC. And I have a place to stay in NYC so no hotel cost for me.

Well. I'd still like to go even if its crowded. Since it would be a trip for me I'd definitely like to go on Thursday which has always been the best day as an attending fan anyway. But I guess we will see? If I sign up to do a comic con in Portland this fall I probably wont be able to go to NYC unless I make a profit from tabling at Rose City Comic Con.
wont happen lol

Do you buy your pass or do you get an industry pass?

I use my industry pass to go before the Con opens and kind of mingle with the folks before it gets insane.

Stray Bullets and Queen and Country

Not really a gritty series, but Casanova is worth your time too. If you can tolerate teen stories then check out Deadly Class too.

It is amazing. One of the best FF runs ever. I need to reread it one day. The wait for the series to finish was one of cruelest and longest waits ever. You Hawkeye fans have no idea.

Having read it the first time in omnibus format, I was a bit disappointing with the abrupt ending where
alt-reed and alt--sue just die by falling down a canyon.

Not just
any canyon though, it's where the Shiftship was buried for millennia, and they didn't know about it.
Within the context of the story, I think that's the only way Elijah wins.

Has Hickman ever commented on what influenced his current Avengers story? The incursion stuff is very reminiscent of the first issue of Planetary and the Doc Brass/Secret Society flashback with the quantum computer.

Yeah, I'll second that...not terribly difficult to navigate the horde in the Artist Alley on Friday/Saturday either.

I imagine being an exhibitor on the right side of the main floor is the worst place to be..which kinda sucks since a lot of the original art dealers are stuck over there with the toy scalpers.

Curious to see how this Atlantic City one goes..they seem ambitious.

I was just talking about how I'd like to hit up Atlantic City before it becomes a ghost town. When is that happening? I go to Dirty Jerz every Summer.

I agree. I haven't seen anything but I always felt that Hickmans FF run, especially the early parts, was heavily inspired by Planetary. Id tell my friends who were big Planetary fans it was the spiritual successor.

East Coast Comic Con? C'mon. You guys'll still be buried under glaciers.

West Coast Cons all about that sun and good weather.

What have you read?
