Do you feel like crying? Then start with I Kill Giants.

While I didn't cry, it was indeed pretty touching and sad.
Still, I found the ending heartwarming. Yes the kid had issues, but she beat them in the end.

I'm starting to notice that I might have a space problem.

Black beetle #0 was great, am in for the full miniseries.

Avenging Spidey 15.1 actually has me a bit more optimistic about Superior. It's a must read after ASM 700.
Yeah Chris Yost is pretty good at cleaning up other people's messes. See Avengers EMH.

Can't wait to see what Joshua Hale Fialkov does with Alpha next month.

I would read Black Beetle but I don't have room on my pull next to Every Bad X-Men Comic.

How long will it run for? Last time I let Comic GAF steer me at an indie I got saddled with some marginally above average issues of Planetoid.

Well obviously opinions vary. I find Planetoid far more deserving of praise than SAGA, as pretty as the art is, and as fun as the world building is in the latter. Go figure.

Get it or don't. I highly recommend it as Great Comics. Of course there is no concensus of Great Comics.

We have people defending post-illness Millar, and saying Final Crisis is terrible so there's no accounting.

Planetoid art is radical. If it was written by BKV, then we'd be talking.

I have the same fear with Black Beetle. Francavilla is a great artist but can he write?

On a semi-related note what ever happened to the comic book club monthly thing?

The OP never created a second voting thread. Maybe someone can open another one? I would love to but frankly my knowledge in comics is no where near other posters in this thread so I can't come up with good suggestions for the poll. I'm sure some of the better experienced readers can help us.

Now you're on the list. I can always tell a proper comics fan by their reaction to FC.

Sort like how people who love Blade Runner always turn out to be excellent friends.

It's an easy way to sort folks.

I love Final Crisis. I hate Bladerunner.

What sort of hybrid monster am I?

OK, I hooked three. Not good enough. We all buy shitty comics here. Let's buy one of the great ones.

Who is next? jon Bones?

Does it count if I'm waiting for the trade? I typically do that with minis so I can read them all at once. Doing the same for Happy.

Hmm, can you guys recommend a good/funny/interesting youtube channel or podcast (video is preferred though) regarding comic reviews? I pretty much watched everything Linkara (except for the stupid story stuff), and there are so many more comics available I would like to know more about.

I find comic reviews to be mostly worthless, but iFanboy doesn't make me want to vomit nearly as much as the others.

You guys buy the singles and keep it alive at the grassroots. I'm waiting for the trade for the best reading experience. It'll make a fine looking book.

Has anyone else been reading Multiple Warheads? It's a bizarre post apocalyptic psychedelic road trip by Brandon Graham and I find it oddly enjoyable. Nothing much seems to be happening in the story but the art is wonderful, it feels almost like the books I'd draw as a kid, full of asides and little characters doing shit in the margins. And it has sexy bits.

Image really did kill everything last year. They're saving comics, kids.

I really like it. Feels like I'm watching a weird slow burn slice of life TV series with crazy visuals. Shame comixology doesn't have the other #1 edition Oni Press published where Sexica does an organ hunt deal and Nikoli finishes building their car Lenin. The short porn comic where Brandon Graham first used the characters (in which Nikoli gets his werewolf penis...) is sort of hilarious. NSFW.

In which he's immediately pulled over by racist cops

and even picks up some early 90s rapper lingo like Flavor Flav, or Mc Hammer

Please Hammar, don't punish 'em!

And we haven't even talked about that issue where Frank infiltrates that gang that turns out to be a ninja training school

Mike Baron's Punisher run was bizarre

Ahahaha, for reals? Man, Mike Baron just became my favourite Punisher-writer. That dude obviously pulls no punches :D

The one that's just called Batman is most likely what you're looking for.

B&R and Inc. are also quite good, but regular ass Batman is the one folk always rave about.

Depends on what you are you looking for. All of the Bat titles are good in one way or another. Batman is the best. B&R is great for the interaction between Bruce and Damian. Etc.

What is B&R and Inc about?

So far on my reading list i have
Batman
The Sixth Gun (recommended to me here but haven't read yet)
Hawkeye (surprisingly really good)
Saga (Read the first issue and really enjoyed it)
Thief of Thieves (loving it)
All New X-Men (really digging it)

The art carried it, unlike say Flash and Batwoman where the stories are so dull i can't stay interested, Black Beetle gets carried forward with each page. It felt like a simplistic Batman/Indiana Jones adventure with great art.

The same kind I am, apparently

and Saga is the first BKV series I've enjoyed because the setting means he has to make actual characters, not pop-culture referencing stand-ins riffing on a Sorkin script.

and it reads better month-to-month. It's SO annoying how every fuckin' issue of Y the Last Man ended with some contrived cliffhanger ending. They stop being shocking or even concerning, you just roll your eyes after awhile.

Been reading it since the first issue dropped. I took one look at the art and decided I needed to buy it and I've been loving it. Lead me to King City which is also fucking fantastic. Graham said that he's going to be doing more of these MW miniseries and I'll be buying all of them!

Saga has a dumber high concept (Game of Thrones x Star Wars!) but the book isn't much like that and feels a lot more small scale and of the moment and meaningful, contrasted to say, Y, which despite having an "end goal" almost always in sight is very meandering (and not in the good way like Saga) and... "annoying" is kinda the perfect word, isn't it?

Anyways~ Saga rules.

+1

I read King City first but you are a fellow of discerning taste.

They really did. I like that I can read a book and have absolutely no idea what's going to happen next. Speculation and anticipation is so good with Image miniseries.

While superhero books are almost always predictable. Even entire events have the fanbase figuring out exactly what's going to happen. So much is just rehash from previous years/decades.

How am I just on the list? I've been clowning final and identity crisis for a while now.
